Bobcat Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 I think the owners have realised flashy names don't necessarily get results. They're here for the long haul and pearson's part of that plan!
Babylon Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 When did I say it's the right way of doing things. Delete this thread as no one seems capable of being able to read. So you think it doesn't seem right that the owners are now doing things properly? You would feel much more comfortable if they carried on doing things incorrectly, becuase you wouldn't think something was up?
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Logically the owners must be thinking why throw money around at this stage of the season it's not as if we are in poll position and just need a couple of players to see us over the line is it ? Plus you will not get the same standard of players in the January window that you will in close season. I think mentally they have already written off this season and the players that may come here now are for next seasons promotion push. Of course there is a outside possibility of the playoffs and if we get in the top six who knows , if we play like we have in the last two games in a playoff we could beat anyone. Trust in Pearson more so for next season he will get it right. This.....

Guest MattP Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 However, Hooper is better than Carroll, so they should get a better price for him than Newcastle did for Carroll. That's a ridiculous statement. Not a huge fan of Carroll but to suggest he is better than a Premier League striker when he has scored goals consistently in the SPL and League One is silly.

He's probably referring to the fact Hooper outscored Carroll when Newcastle were in this league.
Guest MattP Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 He's probably referring to the fact Hooper outscored Carroll when Newcastle were in this league. It happens, doesnt always reflect the value of a player. I don't think that money was paid for Carroll on his performances in this league.
Isopen Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Didn't Drinkwater's initial reply when interviewed after he joined give the biggest clue "will be dis-appointed if we aren't favourites for promotion next season"
Saxondale Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 It happens, doesnt always reflect the value of a player. I don't think that money was paid for Carroll on his performances in this league. Assigning a 'value' to a player is bollocks anyway. A player is worth how much a club will pay for him / how much his current club will accept to sell him.
Jace Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 I for one have only praise for the owners for realising when we did that throwing loads of cash at unwanted big money players is not the way forward and building a team under Pearson who knows what he is doing when it comings to scouting new up and coming players is a far better prospect to move foward. Not a dig at Sven because he did bring in a few excellent players but to me it seems like the club is doing everything 100% right at the moment and learning from its mistakes
Captain... Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Didn't Drinkwater's initial reply when interviewed after he joined give the biggest clue "will be dis-appointed if we aren't favourites for promotion next season" What a dope, you can't get promoted from the Premier league
Jace Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 What a dope, you can't get promoted from the Premier league maybe Drinkwater was talking about Champions league?
StanSP Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Didn't Drinkwater's initial reply when interviewed after he joined give the biggest clue "will be dis-appointed if we aren't favourites for promotion next season" I thought he said that we were more likely to be promotion contenders whereas Barnsley at best were play-off contenders.
Jace Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 I thought he said that we were more likely to be promotion contenders whereas Barnsley at best were play-off contenders. I thought he said we will be promotion contenders and Barnsley are tin pot?
jonlcfc1990 Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 I thought he said we will be promotion contenders and Barnsley are tin pot? I thought he said he said Barnsley are league 1
Jace Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 I thought he said he said Barnsley are league 1 I think he actually said Burnley but probably meant Barnsley easy mistake to make
Charl91 Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 For anyone it's a ridiculous price. However, Hooper is better than Carroll, so they should get a better price for him than Newcastle did for Carroll. I hope you're not suggesting that Andy Carroll should be a bench-mark to measure all transfers! The Carroll transfer is widely regarded as one of the stupidest rip-off transfers of all time.

The Carroll transfer is widely regarded as one of the stupidest rip-off transfers of all time. Except when you consider it as Torres for Carroll +15 million, especially now Carroll has scored more goals than Torres this season and is younger and less sulky, and has got a better goalscoring record since their transfers. Don't get me wrong Newcastle did very well out of it, but it was Chelsea that made it all happen not Liverpool.

StanSP Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 He's prolific for Liverpool, great signing. He's no Anthony Le Tallec.

Anyway, neither of them are Florent Sinama-Pongolle standard.

True, but at the same time, Torres is a proven goalscorer and Spanish international (still 60 in 100 at PL level I think) who's going through a (very) bad run of form. Chelsea also have a lot more money to burn then most clubs. While in hindsight, the Chelsea transfer was clearly an awful idea, you can understand the reasoning behind it. But it doesn't mean Liverpool had to stupidly throw money away. Andy Carroll had half a season in the premiership, and a pretty good season in the championship. For £5m less, they could have bought David Silva. No, I was trying to take the piss out of the price paid for Carroll. Anyway, neither of them are Florent Sinama-Pongolle standard. Just checking
