jonlcfc1990 Posted 30 January 2012 Author Posted 30 January 2012 When we were relegated from the Premiership and came bottom of the league the team got a standing ovation so Leicester fans can't be that bad I was there i'm not saying Leicester fans are bad i'm saying customers are bad.
Jace Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 I was there i'm not saying Leicester fans are bad i'm saying customers are bad. all customers are assholes (and sometimes they lie)
Fox92 Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 If you're a customer, boo. Real fans don't boo their own. It's called support through thick and thin. #toomanycustomers I hate it when people say that. We all support the club through thick and thin, but in my opinion, having paid the money you have the right too boo. Fans work hard every day all day and then spend the money watching their club, players work 90 minutes on a Saturday, so I think we have a right to boo. I have done it before. Ok, it probably doesn't help the team, but it is the only way of letting them know they have played bad. (I haven't ever booed during the game before though).
BlueSi13 Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 I'll be honest, i've never really had an issue with fans booing. I've never personally done it but how else are fans meant to express their displeasure at a performance or a chronic run of results that have left fans feeling that the hundreds/thousands of pounds they have spent supporting the team have gone to waste? Send in a strongly worded email? Football clubs are businesses and football players are multi-millionaire businessmen...we are customers whether we like it or not.
dave the caveman Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 I disagreed, if someone is hurling abuse at me, I would care- it is in human nature to react- positively or negatively depends on the player's character of course. It is almost impossible to completely shrug off any vitrol in all walks of life. If you were a 20something guy who gets paid thousands of pounds every week then you wouldn't care about the fans, trust me. We are irrelevant peasants in the minds of the players. They and us do not exist in the same world. Being booed by us is about as important to them as being shunned by a cat is to us.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 People don't boo when the players are genuinely outclassed, only when the effort is substandard. There's many City fans that wouldn't know, nor appreciate, the difference.

Of course they care Dave stop living in the stone age.

Captain... Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 I disagree that the fans that boo are the customers, the customers are the ones that only go when we are playing well and winning, they don't Boo a bad performance and they don't cheer good ones, they come along, sit on their hands and don't contribute to a positive or negative atmosphere. If they are not happy with the performance on the pitch and don't see the entertainment value as worth the money they spent on it they just stop coming. Fans boo and shout and scream and swear, because they care, as misdirected as it may be only fans stay and boo, the customers would have already left.

I booed vs Barnsley and vs Millwall in particualr, because it was a dreadful performance and the team should know ho the supporters feel. I boo out of frustration more than anything, and to show my disgust. I dont go to matches looking to boo at the end, but I will if they deserve it.

MANFACE Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 Booing is an emotional act, and Football is very emotionally. Therefore I Boo.
Guest ttfn Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 Very true. The perfect example of this was the West Ham game at Upton park earlier this season. The reaction to our fans when Beckford got taken off was disgusting. To those that didn't see or hear it. Beckford was taken off after around an hour of the game, to make way for Steve Howard. He had a fairly poor game and was his normal self in making unspotted runs or not doing enough. When he was eventuallytaken off, a huge cheer was let out by the Leicesterfans. He turned round to us, as if to say, what? Then the worst bit was several hundred out of the 3,000 swearing their nuts off booing and telling him to "**** off". However, even though we lost 3-2, it was a great performance in the 2nd half, which the fans appreciated and every player that came over at the end was applauded for their efforts. That game summed up our fans for me. What point are you trying to make here exactly? I have never booed the team off (but I will defend the fans' right to do so) but I cheered/jeered when Beckford came off against West Ham and was disgusted by his reaction. His performance had been an utter disgrace that day - no running off the ball (give me a break about these "unspotted" runs!), no effort, woeful control, didn't jump once and squandered our best opportunity of the first half. He made Roman Bednar's infamous display at Millwall at Christmas 2010 look like David Beckham against Greece in 2001. Not only that, but it was the climax of a month of increasingly insipid performances. He deserved every bit of the stick he got. Once he went off, the whole team became invigorated and our fans got behind them because of this. There's nothing fickle about fans wanting to see effort and pride in the shirt they invest so much in both financially and emotionally. The last half-an-hour was a proper display and one to give us hope in the post-Sven era. If the fans had booed the team off after that it would have been as disingenuous as it would have been bizarre. Players can't expect to get unmitigated praise throughout their careers. If you are going to accept the praise in the good times, you have to accept the stick in the bad. Fans' attitudes to players' form can be fickle I agree (although many still remain on-the-fence about Beckford and Mills, to name but two of those who have made recent improvements) but if Beckford bangs in 20 between now and the end of the season and I'm singing his praises it won't be because I'm fickle; it'll be because I was wrong.
J.Lisemore Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 People don't boo when the players are genuinely outclassed, only when the effort is substandard. Bang on.
Burmesefox Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 I only boo at the end of the game if the performance warrants it - never boo during the game or at ht. think I have booed twice in the last 2\3 years.
absolutelegend Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 Does to opinion of stan collymore really warrant its own thread? my mate Brian thinks its fine to boo your players when they are poor, my other mate Dave doesn't. IMO nothing wrong with a boo if you are watching sub standard effort etc. I think it's your job/responsibility as a fan to ensure the efforts by employees of the club are up to our expectations.
seenitall Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 Fans at the game can always tell when the players are coasting and being lazy - this is when the boos come and I agree with the earlier post - we have improved since Barnsley, Arsenal improved at half time yesterday and O Neill got it together after a run that would have seen him in danger of the sack in these tougher times
munf1987 Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 cant understand booing your own team but the worse fans are those that only say negative things. Why pay all the money they do, to come and watch a team that your waiting to mess up. for example wellens paying a wayward pass followed by some nob making a smart comment that makes no sense at all and makes himself look like a complete dick, But then wellens plays a quality pass to put beckford through on goal and nothing. they just sit there arms folded. This was one of the main factors stopping me from buying a season ticket. Last few times i have had one ive had some nob sat in front or behind me. At least when buying a ticket each match i can move
MikeyT Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 StanCollymore Stan Collymore To be clear. I'd like Martin O'Neill to adopt me as his son.
