Captain... Posted 20 August 2012 Posted 20 August 2012 Swann run out, how frustrating! Massive ask now with Anderson & Finn partnering Prior. Problem is we need to keep the run rate up around 3 an over, Anderson will need to chip in the runs and not just block out the over, gotta say with the new ball round the corner it is over.

Oh yeah, I'm not blaming him. It's just frustrating how well they were going and the fact the Swann just stopped for a second, which meant he didn't get home.
purpleronnie Posted 20 August 2012 Posted 20 August 2012 cant help think back over the drop catches...let alone the stupid runouts...could have won this already.
marko Posted 20 August 2012 Posted 20 August 2012 cant help think back over the drop catches...let alone the stupid runouts...could have won this already. Easily. Amla dropped on 2 and De Villiers when he was on a couple. We've dropped 9 chance this series which is most unlike England. They'd be on the golf course by now if they'd taken their chances.

Whilst all of this is true South Africa have had the beating of us in all departments, apart from KP's 149 and this innings of lower order batting we have been second best all series with the bat and even with the ball we have had some long spells of not threatening to take a wicket. Edit: Don't forget we have had some luck (Kallis' dodgy dismissal springs to mind) and have been helped by some ill disciplined SA bowling, almost a half century of extras at Headingley. When we lose it will be because we deserve to and South Africa will deserve to be no. 1

With exception to the first test, I'd have to disagree. At Headingly we outscored them 1st innings - albeit only by a few - and truth be told they never looked like bowling us out again in the 2nd innings; the only real reason we were 4 down is because we threw a couple of wickets away trying to win - KP and Prior. In this match they've fought back in the 1st and 2nd innings from 54-4 and 164-4, to post decent totals, and as has been stated, we dropped relatively easy chance to allow them to do so. Also, we've thrown our wickets away to a certain degree with poor shot selection, whereas their batsmen have made it hard work for bowlers by not giving it away. And with all due respect, there's been a few occasions when the South Africans have been scratching their heads for ideas to take wickets. Prior's just gone. Game over.
Corky Posted 20 August 2012 Posted 20 August 2012 South Africa were better in all departments. Since we got to first place we've struggled.
Corky Posted 20 August 2012 Posted 20 August 2012 Prior caught off no ball!!! That was poor from Morkel. There is no excuse for not getting part of your foot behind the line.
weluv Posted 20 August 2012 Posted 20 August 2012 need to look at freshening up the side now. The addition of Bairstow is good, but need to look at the likes of Nick Compton, Joe Root, Gary Ballance and Chris Woakes. Would also seriously look at getting Chris Tremlett and Graham Onions back into the side as well as dropping Broad.
Guest MattP Posted 22 August 2012 Posted 22 August 2012 Well my run is over!! What a test match though, truly enthralling from start to finish and the best side did win, we didn't play to our potential, they did. The real travesty is this wasn't a five match series and of course KP who if the rumours flying around the ground are true will never play for us again. If anyone wants the contact details for a great ticket contact for Lords hit me up, £70 seats right behind the bowlers arm.

Guest MattP Posted 22 August 2012 Posted 22 August 2012 But you`re not behind the bowler... You know what I mean
I am Rod Hull Posted 22 August 2012 Posted 22 August 2012 You know what I mean £70 for that seat is unreal. I`v only been to Lords once and that was for a one day game, would love to go back for a test.
purpleronnie Posted 24 August 2012 Posted 24 August 2012 Piggin rain...we were going along quite nicely too.
Guest MattP Posted 28 August 2012 Posted 28 August 2012 Amla must want to play us every week. He is quite brilliant. Completely had his way with us. They have far too many here, par is only 250 odd.
Corky Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 Bowled really well in the last two games, even Bopara
marko Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 Bowled really well in the last two games, even Bopara Good job because he can't bat for love nor money. Poor, poor dismissal yet again. Time to head back to the County circuit, Ravi.
Corky Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 Good job because he can't bat for love nor money. Poor, poor dismissal yet again. Time to head back to the County circuit, Ravi. Or use him as a bowler and bat him at 8/9. He's again underperformed and has to be on his final chance.
marko Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 Or use him as a bowler and bat him at 8/9. He's again underperformed and has to be on his final chance. Nowhere near good enough to be in as a bowler. He's looked decent here because the pitch and conditions have been conducive. Don't get me wrong, I'm not slating his bowling, but he's very much a part timer.
