Test Cricket 2012

Possibly, I'm not sure.

Players probably don't walk as much, but I think technology is a good thing.

It is definitely a good thing, and since the DRS has come in England have climbed to the top of the rankings in all forms of the game (almost) it just goes to show we were always being harshly done over by the bitter ex colony umpires...

Kasprowicz didn't have his glove on his bat when he edged Harmison in 2005, but no-one will talk about that soon.

It will die down and South Africa will benefit from a poor decision.

Where the fvck did that bowling performance come from today?!

I was reading OBO on the Guardian and I came back from a meeting and SA were 4 down.

It will be interesting to see how the morning session goes tomorrow.

Steven Finn bowled well early on, Anderson in the afternoon.

Finn should be a regular now.

He's generally too expensive for the wickets he takes.

Excellent performance, you can't do any more than on the first day at Lords.

Spot on Corky, he'll never leave the side now, far too dangerous to leave out, nothing scares batsman like pure pace. Showed what a poor decision dropping Swann was as well, forgot how much of a workload he takes at one end.

He's generally too expensive for the wickets he takes.

He'll always be a bit more expensive than the rest as he gets up around 90 odd, he'll get better with his control the older he gets though, he takes big wickets and you can't put a price on that.

He is expensive, but so is Broad though Finn is more threatening.

Part of the issue today was changing his approach to avoid knocking the stumps over, which will take time to adjust to.

I think Finn is a luxury bowler for when you are going for all out attack and think you can rely on your batters to perform. I'm not doubting his talent but horses for courses. Dropping Swan was madness especially since there is no one else even remotely close to replacing him.

It's all about picking a mix really, you need at least one bowler who can hold up an end and not conceed too many runs. That's why Glenn Mcgrath was so good he bowled a tight line for 7-8 overs straight and allowed Warne to work over a batsmen.

I don't think dropping Swann was madness, it nearly paid off, he was ineffectual at the Oval and Headingley is not traditionally a spinners pitch, it was a brave experiment. Finn is a better bowler than Bresnan in terms of wicket taking, and that is what wins matches, Bresnan contributes with his batting, but that is not good enough to be a true all-rounder, but I do think as a 5 man attack it would be awesome, and unless Taylor or Bairstow can step up, we won't lose out much in the batting dept either.

Well this is going tits up fast, one of the new boys is going to have to step up big.

South Africa have the best attack though- Steyn, Morkel and Philander are superb.

Wouldn't want to face those.

It's a great attack but we haven't played them well, that shot from Cook was unbelievable.

Taylor century - I can feel it.

Lost count of the number of times we've given our wickets away in this series; some really poor shot selections.

Maybe not then. I'll keep quiet from now on.

In real trouble and don't really fancy Bairstow to become the saviour against this attack after he struggled against a fairly average Windies side.

We haven't, but they are disciplined and will keep at it.

After a while our attack got fed up and starting to try and bore them out.

Fantastic partnership here to bring us right back in it, tomorrow could be an absolutely fantastic days play.

I'm off to Lords this morning for a couple of days, can't wait. Incredibly I've still never seen us lose a test match out of 20 odd so hopefully that will continue. :trumpet:

Fingers crossed that trend continues. You've got a decent day for it.

It's been a good days cricket, from a neutrals point of view, not been the best for England but not disastrous, we need a wicket or 2 before the end of the day to keep it about level, likewise I have never seen England lose, but only been to 7 tests, so not as impressive a record.
