I did a private study that proves that middle class academic types are predominantly prone to being elitist,pompous,self-righteous clowns.

- Ashley, Eaton, Western Australia,

lol

I wondered why he was asking me all those questions

Already knew that. Obvious really that those that do not have an open mind will criticise rather than emphasise for others.

I think Foxestalk posters are unique in having very few of these types. :)

I thought the Daily Mail was telling us that Marshall is brighter than Dyer....... ;)

Judging by Marshall's 'off field antics' recently, that does not say a lot for poor Lloyd...... :|

It seems to me that If you start off with a premise that intelligence can be meassured by an adherence to certain tenets ,dogmas or ideals however lofty or appealing they may be , then I think it would be easy to prove any group more intelligent than another .

eg ;

A study could easily prove that those that believe in god are less intelligent than atheists because believing in god is obviously silly and shows sheepish qualities .

That is, if the academics start off by saying atheism shows greater intelligence than theism then of course the result is a foregone conclusion and the same effect could be achieved for the opposite belief .

eg;

A study has revealed that religious people are more intelligent than atheists because a belief system such as christianity requires a deeper understanding that atheists are incapable of grasping

A study could easily prove Leicester fans are more intelligent than Forest fans because city fans tend to support city and it's a self evident truth that city are better :)

obviously this is true

Pretty stupid and flawed experiment. All it proves is that people who are openly prejudice are more likely be be less intelligent. Hardly a suprise. The right/left issue doesn't even come into it.

It's quite obvious that right wingers are more intelligent. One only has to witness the moronic fantasy-land ramblings of your typically sheltered and child-like left winger to see that.

That's not how this worked though. They measured for intelligence earlier in the subject's lives, presumably though some conventional tests. Those who were previously measured as less intelligent proved to be more open about their prejudices than the others.

Good job it's in the Mail, clearly bullshit lol

I hate calling you Bellend

Don't worry, it's fine. It was a bit trickier when Raj cheerily greeted me in L1 with it.

I'm not going to get into a debate about the merits or otherwise of the research which the people commenting on the story itself seem set on, I'm more intrigued as to why the Mail has published a story which is about as close to putting a full page advert with a finger pointing at the reader and text saying 'yeah you, you blithering twat, duhhhhhhhh thicky thicko, nnnnnnnnnghhhh' as it's ever likely to get. I can only assume Dacre is off sick and one of those writer types - you know, the speccy, clever ones that have got an answer for everything - is having a laugh

Surely less intellectual people will gravitate towards the common attitude of the day.

Considering that this survey is mostly to do with people who are now in their mid 50s, the attitude in the UK at the time when they would have been in their formative years would have been more racist and homophobic than it is today , therefore will retain attitudes rather than think for themselves to change them .

If another survey is taken over the next 50 years then the less intelligent will probably be more lefty leaning because that is the more common attitude of today , because they'll tend to follow the belweathers

i think the whole thing is a crock of shite

lol Nothing like the sepia toned fantasy past that the right always harks back to then?

I'm waiting for the Guardian article now lambasting soft cheese eaters and world cinema connoisseurs.

Have you read the comments on the gruanaid website? Self-loathing at its finest.

The other thing it proves is that "people who are openly prejudice are more likely be be less intelligent." and tend to be right-wing. It doesn't mean that people who fall on the right side of the political spectrum are stupid, it does suggest that stupid people tend to gravitate to the right. As others have pointed out possibly because they are easily led by papers like the mail. It is not exactly a recent study and so it doesn't really reflect modern views.
