I do agree although I've been able to take it with a pinch of salt as all programs seem to outstay their welcome nowadays. Biggest slice of humble pie though is back when I was a teenager and heard Madonna for the first time, upon which i commented "Well, I can't see her being anything but a one hit wonder"...

Though having said that, it wasn't THAT long before this that the top 3 was made up of The Jam, The Stranglers and Blondie, so I had slightly more faith in the average person back in those days...

In it's own right it's still funny, but after I watched the end of 8, with Season 9 on my hard drive ready, I died a little inside. Knowing that they too made the mistake of going just one step too far, after the perfect ending really frustrates me but like you said, it wasn't that much of a surprise. Oh, and don't get me started on how JD doesn't actually leave and is still there until episode 6, I think, when he leaves with a click of the fingers. Massive cock up that was. But yeah, I still found it pretty funny to watch taken on it's own merit.

I can see why they left key characters in but at the same time it felt weird (that some were there and some weren't, also that there wasn't any real need for them apart from seguing viewers into the new show). On it's own it might have been great, but fair enough, as an aftermath it maybe wasn't the best thought out. For the record, don't get how they could deal with JD that way, basically blasphemy, very disappointing.
