Big Nige's Interview

Recommended Posts

Posted

Watched the game at a bar that inevitably had Man U as their main game tonight so no audio (Any chance to steal our thunder, eh?). A lot of comments in various threads seem to be about Pearson's interview.

Basically, just wondering what was said, anything controversial/important etc? I suppose any chat regarding this can go in here.

If there was nothing of note then mods feel free to delete. :)

Basically said "I don't care how much a player cost or how big his ego is" when questioned on why Matt Mills wasn't playing when he is club captain.

In more diplomatic words? Or fairly full on :P Was that it for subject matter?

Fair play I suppose, although I hope Mills isn't frozen out, he's a good player and we have 4 fairly matched centre backs at the moment, each with different ads/disads. Mills can still do a job and being captain I hope that dropping him doesn't spark any unrest, even though I approve of the St Ledger/Morgan partnership right now.

The bit I quoted was pretty much exact wording of what he said as he snarled at the poor guy given the job of asking him questions lol

The guy on skysports kept trying to find out about why Mills was dropped but Pearson wasn't given anything away & at the end of the interview as Pearson was walking off, Pearson said "Nice try". Gotta love that!!

   Loved his interview on Sky i love his repost it is so refreshing to have a manager who doesn't want to hang the teams dirty laundry out in public he's handled SSL situation well and the Jan transfer window with perfection and now Mills i doubt if Mills wants to play again in a leicester shirt he won't because NP has shown that if you want to prove yourself he will let you. This man is our manager and i wouldn't want anyone else

I completely agree..

In this world of political correctness and saying what you think people want to hear, it was so refreshing last night to see Nigel basically telling the interviewer to go and fook himself.

There were little flashes of anger in Nige's eyes but he just about kept it together.

Rather than some robotic pre set waffle, Pearson actually made it clear, non verbally, what he felt.

I found it amusing and it made me like him even more.

And he did say 'nice try' at the end..

lol

Exactly so many managers these days think "oh sky are asking me a question i better tell them everything" When there is no obligation to even do the interview take Holloway for example when they went up to the prem he didn't shut up all season, He would of held 5 press conferences a week if he could of spouting his mouth off about every little thought in his head to any microphone in front of his worzol mouth and what happened? They went down and now no one wants to know it seems to me that some managers just love the spotlight to be on them where as NP is a classic "Let my team do the talking" and last night they did Big Wes SSL Pelts and Konch all performed brilliantly as well as the rest of the team And kings in the away end and Gallys on twitter again do they feel left out? No because NP has a great way of dealing with players and keeping them on side. If mills and i say IF very loudly is trying to make Pearson pick him automatically then he won't be here very long and IF thats the case i don't want him to be as much as i like him thats not the way you treat the team and your manager

I agree again Jon but I'd add that many managers only tell the interviewers what they want to hear.

Such is 'media management'... Which is drummed into the players too.

How many players do you really hear interviewed that give their own views on anything?

I would say almost none.. What they do instead is to meter out some pre-determined patter, which becomes sooooo boring and really not worth hearing. Then they go and post their REAL views on Twitter!

lol

What Nige did last night was to not 'play ball' at all with the media..

And I find that refreshing...

In closing the naked calender of me addressed to NP at the KP is already in the post

Leave that one with ya son....

NP speaks with his heart on his sleeve, he doesn't want any egos here and it appears the price tag or the name isn't what he bases his selections, but rather their team ethic and work rate which is what it should be like.

Talking about interviews, I watched the game back when I got back from Derby and if you listen to his pre match interview all you can hear is the Leicester fans in the back ground, AGAIN, I salute the BLUE ARMY that travelled last night.

All of this does worry me though as if we are to improve as a team and if/when we eventually go up will have to care about egos. Unfortunately bigger, better players usually come with egos and unless he learns how to address this he will never get us to the higher places in the Prem which is where the Thais want to be.

I am not saying he is in the wrong here but it is all about man management. Having said that he seems to have got both St Ledger and Beckford playing and integrated in to the team and they both have reported egos the size of Scotland.

Also, before the match, Pearson was asked why Mills wasn't selected. Pearson's response being 'Cos I select the team'.

Sky - 'How does Mills feel about not being selected?'

NP - 'Don't know, haven't spoken to him'.

It's amusing but worrying at the same time.

Perhaps Pearson told Mills he was taking the captaincy off him and Mills didn't like that one bit? I know I wouldn't.

Yeah. I was watching it on tv in Denmark and all you could hear were our fans! Our away support is an absolute credit to the club :appl:

The Leicester captaincy issue lately has had very strange effects. When King had it his confidence was sky high he was an Academy boy living the dream of being captain of the first team 11 he was being named for international duty and then we took it off him for some reason. Big name clubs apparently came knocking and without the captaincy he never reached that level of performance again and now with Mills IMO a CB should be captain either that or a CDM because there in the middle of the park it's easier for them to get messages across and also they will be integral to most of the game because they are situated in the centre of the park. As for Mills it's certainly strange all of the info from him tells me he wants to be a part of Leicester

He has bought a house and moved here

He wants to set up his life here

Repeatedly mentioned he wants to be our captain for a long time and lead us to the prem

Kissed the badge against SOTON (i know it's not much but still)

Didn't shy away from captaincy when given the duty

But if SSL asked the question as to why he gets first team every game and got put on the transfer list for his trouble maybe it left a feeling of invincibility in Mills's mind. Although i would say in his defence he has had 3 good performances and they wasn't included against Norwich and Derby maybe he felt that he was finally getting into the groove of things?

Yeah agree with most of that.

I definitely prefer someone defensive as captain, sometimes even a goal-keeper and Kasper would fit the bill for our captaincy. Wellens is doing great now with Danns beside him. Interesting to see what will happen should King return before the end of the season. King's injury could warn off potential suitors though so the injury could actually be a blessing in disguise. Wonder if he can become a one-club player!

It's only fair the way Mills has been treated in terms of being dropped. He hasn't performed that well as defender or leader, considering we were conceding plenty and losing leads i.e. Watford. I heard that yesterday was only our 2nd clean sheet in 12 matches. St Ledger has made a difference. It appears he's put that transfer request fuss totally behind him and it's showing in performances. Better late than never :D.

Not sure what exactly has gone on behind the scenes between Pearson and Mills, but if our speculation is correct then Mills has to learn that he isn't invincible and Pearson is the man in charge making all the decisions. He can't keep everyone happy and each player in fact has to learn that their position isn't guaranteed. He has to be professional about it and try to work his way back in to the team through hard work in training. Throwing a strop will be detrimental to himself and to the club. I guess it's time to see just how much effort he wants to put in to get playing football again.

I love this guy and have no doubt he is the right man for our club. Historically, we have always done well with a straight no nonsense character at the helm, and Nige fits the bill.

Matt Mills is a good centre-half, but it is noteworthy that Reading haven't missed him this season. It seems clear Mills has an ego, but no one man is bigger than our club and he needs to show it on the pitch. If Mills can do that then he has a future, just look at SSL, but if he prefers to have a strop about it then he needs to go for the sake of both parties.

As for management of ego's, I think Nige does just fine, and if we get to the Premier then I don't want an ego who doesn't want to listen to the Manager and bust a gut week in week out for us. Martin seemed to do all right for us and Nige is a similar man.

Bottom line support Nige and hope Mills responds in the best way.

Keep the faith guys

Pearson does things in-house.

I expect Mills to be back in surprisingly and improve like St Ledger has done.

Sometimes it's better to have it out in the open rather than keep it locked away. People know where they stand.

Be could have just said that Mills is injured but that wouldn't have been half the fun as what is going on now
