JamesWelshFox Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 With the back four finally starting to settle down and play well as a unit, it is going to be hard as much as I love him to bring Bamba back in, Morgan and SSL looks like a good partnership. So does anyone else think their might be a role for Bamba as the holding midfielder ? I don't know if it would work and now probably isn't the time to experiment with it, but perhaps worth looking at before next season. Would take some of the pressure off Wellens and give him a bit more freedom to get forward. Watched Wellens at the open training session last week, he is easily our most gifted player even now and a bit more freedom will prolong his career, allow him to be a bit more creative, and personally I think he has goals in him. On a different note, with goals not exactly flowing upfront, what does anyone feel about actually letting Gally have a go straight don the middle ? Good skill set, knows where the back of the net is, and would eb a good link between say Nugent and the midfield if he play in the hole. And Finally, please keep Waggy. This kid deserve a chance and would bleed for us if we asked him to.
Captain... Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 This has come up a number of times on here, apparently he used to play their a couple of times for some tinpot Scottish team and for the Ivory Coast, but he has said he prefers playing at Centre back, he certainly didn't look comfortable at RB last night. The thing is, if we have SSL and Morgan doing their job at CB then do we need a CDM? We would be sacrificing creativity and skill by playing Bamba out of position ahead of Wellens/Danns/Drinkwater who are natural midfielders. Or we would sacrifice width and end up with some diamond formation, which hasn't worked in the past and not how NP wants to play. Bamba is a great player and entertaining to watch, but I wouldn't want to crowbar him into a team playing well, or upsetting the defensive partnership. We could adopt a 532 formation to accomodate all 3 of them, or start playing SSL at RB, but it doesn't seem like NP's style. He will get his chance at CB, and he, like everyone else at the club will have to prove his worth in the squad. As for Waghorn, would love to see him back and banging the goals in, can't see him starting ahead of Beckford or Nugent at the minute but he has time on his side and Pearson clearly rates him.
HangerLCFC Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 It wouldnt work, he hasnt got a close enough touch, he can get away with in the back 4 cause hes got the legs and strength to win the ball back, and hes got cover, the only way he'll get into the team now is if someone get injured or suspended
jprs1976 Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 Bamba certainly wanted to be in midfield, and not RB. not comfortable at him at the back so midfield ideal place

Hibs aren't tinpot. Turnbulls Tornadoes.
Captain... Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 Hibs aren't tinpot. Turnbulls Tornadoes. I couldn't remember who we signed him from, I knew it was a Scottish club and not Rangers or Celtic, so I went with tinpot instead.
Happy Fox Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 If we want a defensive midfielder we will buy one.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 Bamba retains the ball well spreads possesion on the floor keeps the wings involved wins every header and is never afraid to tackle and 9/10 his tackle comes up with the ball what more do you want from a CDM? He's perfect for the role IMO it gives him the ability to move up the pitch and not have to worry about defence because of SSL and Morgan. Stick him in mid and he will get goals and assists guarantee.
Thracian Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 It's something I've noticed before - fans trying to get good or favourite players into the team via another route if their regular place is filled. There's nothing to indicate that Bamba is a midfielder - defensive or otherwise - but we will surely need more than Moran and SSL as centre-backs during our remaining games. Pearson involved the guy last night and that was a plus. It's a squad game and players really need to understand that - as they certainly would if they were managers. Sometimes you look at a squad and think that there are no real options in certain positions, and that's been the case for us even this season and after such a considerable investment. But the situation has significantly improved and Pearson deserves credit for that. And for demonstrating that anyone not understanding that they are squad players can do the other thing and take the consequences. But there's no point upsetting the balance of our team just for the sake of keeping a popular player involved. Bamba is a centre-back with some immense qualities quite apart from his eccentricities. I'm quite sure he'll have chances to play there.
Krimbinho Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 Maybe something like this for away games? A lot of teams play with one striker away from home, so stick Bamba in. -----------------------------------------Schmeichel------------------------------------------- Peltier------------------------SSL-----------------Morgan--------------------Konchesky --------------------------------------------Bamba---------------------------------------------- -----------------------Wellens----------------------------Danns------------------------------ Gallagher------------------------------------------------------------------------Dyer --------------------------------------------Nugent----------------------------------------------

Stick him in mid and he will get goals and assists guarantee. But do we want a CDM? We seem to be managing ok without one. Who would you drop? Your description of Bamba's qualities is also necessary for a CB and yet he is being kept out by 2 others who also posess that quality and seem to have the positional sense that Bamba lacks. At some point between now and the end of the season Bamba will get his chance, he just has to take it, in the meantime he will be a useful player to have on the benchm, and maybe even throw on in the centre of the park when we are defending a 1 goal lead and need a bit more bite in the middle, but there is no way I can see him starting in the middle ahead of Wellens, current cpatain, Danns, MotM last night or Drinkwater. Np is not going to change his preferred formation for him.
lcfcbaby Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 If this was suggested at another point then possibly but the team is starting to play together well and changing a winning side will only knock confidence! Bamba will have a chance like SSL did and Morgan he has to wait his turn! I don't think that Bamba should be brought on to defend a lead! The reason why we play SSL and Morgan is because Pearson believes their the best two to attempt to keep a clean sheet with! Bamba can be benched he will get a chance! If he's not happy to do that then Pearson won't want to deal with that and he'll be out! You have to fight for your place and that's what he has to do!

cuddly ken Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 How about SSL in the Def Mid role with Bamba & Morgs at CB? Or away from home play them all as a 3 with SSL as Sweeper? The games will be coming thick and fast so players may be rested, SSL has a game for Ireland next week so it good to have Bamba as an option. I think if Nige got them together if he hasn't already and told them that they would be fine.
lcfcbaby Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 SSL's game for Ireland is midweek so he'll be back for Saturday's match!
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 Why on earth would people want Bamba to move up to centre mid? Danns and Drinky are the future of our centre mid IMO. Don't bugger that up by putting Sol there!

Guest MattP Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 No, touch or passing not good enough to play a central midfield role. I don't want to see him at right back again either after last night!
Fox92 Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 This has come up on numerous occasions, and Bamba said he doesn't want to play in that position. Personally, I don't feel comfortable with him in the team, especially out of position. Our midfield has been looking good, upsetting it wouldn't be a good idea in my opinion. Plus, if Nigel really thinks we need a defensive midfielder he will try and buy one.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 No, he has said many times he doesn't like to play in CDM, he will be a sub defender, Morgan and SSL are the two Center Backs now IMO, don't know what will happen to Mills. Maybe something like this for away games? A lot of teams play with one striker away from home, so stick Bamba in. -----------------------------------------Schmeichel------------------------------------------- Peltier------------------------SSL-----------------Morgan--------------------Konchesky --------------------------------------------Bamba---------------------------------------------- -----------------------Wellens----------------------------Danns------------------------------ Gallagher------------------------------------------------------------------------Dyer --------------------------------------------Nugent---------------------------------------------- No Pearson plays 4-4-2, not 4-5-1 formation, Beckford and Nugent are looking good upfront together
adamkhalifa Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 Before Bamba signed for Leicester, a few Hibernian fans touted him a better midfilder than a defender. If I am not mistaken, I am pretty sure he plays for Ivory in that position. I would like to see him play there for sure.
