'Plastic Fan' or 'Proper Fan'

Recommended Posts

I would say a plastic fan is someone who shows little interest in the club until it does well or "big" games come around.

A proper fan is someone who takes a real interest and tries to get to as many games as possible.

Best definition ever.

Most of us have followed our team across three divisions, seeing us play against everyone from Atletico Madrid and Manchester United to Cheltenham Town and Yeovil. We're a bloomin' loyal bunch on the whole.

The way you intimate, I guess that you've been going to football as long as me and I know my matches attended and grounds visited is far greater than almost everyone on this forum apart from similar old buggers. But that doesn't make my opinions more valid or carry greater weight - they're nothing more than my opinions and if people don't like them then they know where the ignore function is...I've certainly used it for many on here.

I'm in total agreement.

I am one of those old buggers. I have been to more grounds, spent more money & suffered more highs & lows than I care to remember.

I am much older now & my priorities have changed. I don't go as often as I would like. I do what I can. Some may think of me as plastic - it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I know what supporting Leicester City means to me.

Daggers is right. You are what you are and if someone else doesn't like it then fvck 'em.

Agreed, however some peoples view of a plastic fan is of one whom believes they have a god given right to have tickets for any big games we have, despite them rarely if ever attending games.

I was offended by your use of the vernacular and phoned

0800-man-the-f@ck-up.

The operator was quite rude, can you please inform me whom I should contact in order to complain about the complaints line?

Is it bollox... I've followed City since I was 7..

Had three years when I hardly went to a game when I was away at Uni.

Did that make me a 'plastic fan' at that time?

I wore my LCFC shirt with pride when training with the Uni team..

Rubbish

No.

That isn't actually what I or Corky said.

I haven't been able to get to a game this season because of my career and buying a house, but I still consider myself a fan and will be at Peterborough on the 31st even though it's nowt special as an away day and our league season is over bar the shouting. If you follow the team, whether in body or in spirit, through thick and thin then you're a proper fan in my books. Some people have commitments that go over and above LCFC unfortunately, as I'm sure you understand judging from your post.

Personally this is what I class a plastic fan as, one of the lads I know from college if asked who he would support would say Leicester, and he can name players but if I ever tried to have a conversation about it in more detail it would last a matter of minutes. Now I don't know his circumstances, something may prevent him from not going to games, but I do know in the past year or so he has attended Madrid in the summer, Forest and Man City at home and as he was telling me thanks to his mate he will also be going Chelsea away. Kind of pisses me off.

Someone who's happy to get the bus at 8.30 on a Sunday morning to see them play. :P

This is a lay in compared to getting up at 5.45am to get the bus, the day after new years day to go to Palace!

I was a season ticket holder from the Walkers Stadium's inaugral season up to the season we went down to League One.

I quit because the atmosphere was crap, the players were crap and generally, it wasnt value for money.

Havent been to a game since so I cant really judge the players of today.

I still consider myself a true Leicester fan but my money is better spent elsewhere.

Why care what others perceive you as?

People express opinions based on their experience and knowledge, those opinions are no more valuable or important than someone else's. Facts will always be facts and opinions will only ever be opinions.

Eg look at the best footballer discussion.

De Stefano?

Eusebio?

Pele?

Best?

Maradona?

Zidane?

Ronaldo?

Messi?

It depends who youve seen and what your football experience is.

It you support Leicester City Football Club, your welcomed as a fan in my little (and slightly deranged) world.

I'm a better fan than all of you

There you go again: telling us that something you've just made-up is true and presenting us with a statement of opinion and trying to pass it off as fact.

If only you’d done a little research, such as asking me, you would very soon conclude that I am the best sort of fan. Neither plastic nor proper, but plaster. Or more precisely “plastered”

:D

Being neither proper nor plastic , I intend the form the “prophylactic” supporters group although we’ve been firing blanks for so long now I’m not sure it will make much of a difference.

Another group that will be nearby is the one that fits perfectly with watching City...., they being the Phlegmatic supporters association. Prawn sandwich anyone?

I remember when Fulham were struggling in the 4th Division before Al Fayed took over the crowd at the cottage were so sparse some fans would bring adult sized blow up ghosts to games to fill out the terraces.

Now THAT is a plastic fan.

I refer you to the survey "Who is the best City fan?", Daggers et al, 1987: The conclusion of which demonstrated unequivocally that I am indeed the best fan.

Facts, I'm all about the facts.

And making things up.
