lcfcadam Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 I would guess (don't ya love rumours?!) that the posh horsey brigade didn't like a bit of banter and high spirits, complained, and it all got blown out of proportion. Only been to the races once, was probably the most rowdy event I've ever attended. Left football fans for dead in terms of sheer mass-drunkenness...
Langston Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Didn't realise he was a dickhead. We'd have just beaten Birmingham, I don't see the problem in the guy enjoying himself to be honest. Hardly like he's on the mother of all benders the night before a massive game, is it?

Reynard Bleu Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 If he plays Sunday and has a mare, people will point to this incident and say 'that's why he was crap". It won't matter if its true or not, the association will be made. On the other hand if he creams the Chelsea attack and scores 3 headers from set pieces NP could get all the kudos for giving his players a break from the stresses and strains of a busy campaign! Not a good idea to attract the publicity though, could have kept a lower profile IMO.
gazfox9 Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Won't feel a lot of sympathy for him if NP bins him on sunday. I'm sure all the lads like a good drink, just foolish to be so open about it.
The Padster Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Provided he puts a shift in on Sunday, does anyone really care? He had a flutter, won, and bought drinks for all. Alright, it may have got slightly out of hand but I think the "drop him" line is a bit far.
caz05 Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 OMG we got human beings in the team Think Nugent was with him aswell wasnt he LADS
MrSpaM Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 And more... IRELAND soccer star Sean St Ledger splashed the cash for revellers after he hit the jackpot at Cheltenham. The star defender downed Jaegerbombs and bought rounds of drinks for punters at a Cheltenham pub where he partied into the early hours of today. At one stage, the young Leicester player pulled out a wad of cash and showed it off when asked if he had a winner at the races. "What do you think?" he laughed before generously peeling off some notes and buying drinks for everyone in sight. The 27-year-old defender will line out for Ireland at the Euro 2012 in three months but he has a more pressing engagement at the weekend against Chelsea. The FA Cup quarter-final with the Blues, however, didn't seem too pressing for the centre half. "Come on, let's have a drink. I'm playing Chelsea on Sunday but it's okay," he told the Herald. St Ledger, who is a valuable member of the Ireland team, hit the tiles with a vengeance as he celebrated his big win on Queen Mother Champion Chase day. Dressed in a dark suit and in gregarious form after a day spent enjoying hospitality with Boylesports, St Ledger partied at the Beehive in the centre of Cheltenham. At one stage, he threw his shot of Jaegermeister into a pint of beer and downed it quickly before moving on to buy more drinks. The star is gearing up for a clash against Chelsea and was clearly given the night off by team boss Nigel Pearson. The pair have had a fractious relationship in the past, after Pearson transfer-listed St Ledger following a St Stephen's Day bust up after the Ireland player was left out of the team. When asked if he had been given time off by no-nonsense Pearson, St Ledger laughed and said: "It's okay, it's okay." St Ledger has made a place in the Ireland team his own of late, lining up as Richard Dunne's defensive partner. He will travel with the Ireland team to Poland in the summer and may start against Croatia in our first match of Euro 2012. St Ledger had come up to the Prestbury racecourse from his southern base with a gang of pals as they enjoyed the hospitality area in the corporate boxes. He was among a number of soccer stars who had made their way to the track to chance their arm and have a flutter, including Shay Given who was seen chatting with Westwife Gillian Filan. Although born in Britain, St Ledger chose to play for Ireland as his grandfather is from Carlow. He made his Ireland debut in June 2009 in a qualifier for the 2010 FIFA World, Cup which resulted in a 1-1 draw to Bulgaria. http://www.herald.ie...ad-3051893.html Does anybody actually believe this drivel?
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Ah but he didn't put his tips on here did Mills and SSL on the bench LMHO
StanSP Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Wow. Some serious over-reactions to this. Would love to see what you'd all say if Pearson was spotted with them . He's just having some fun, just like thousands of others there at Cheltenham who would have been big winners. I'm sure he wasn't the only one getting hammered and just because he's a pro-footballer he gets singled out. Calm yourselves.

The only issue with that is that NP doesn't need to be at the peak of fitness.
StanSP Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 The only issue with that is that NP doesn't need to be at the peak of fitness. Suppose. But it doesn't take a few days to get back to full fitness after a night out. Takes a day, max. Plus, it's most likely that the media i.e. that Daily Mail article, has largely exaggerated events.
Saxondale Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Doesn't matter what's printed, as long as he reports for training spick and span. Sure Nige liked the odd pint during his time as a player.
Leicfox Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Didn't realise he was a dickhead. Ask Steve Bleasdale. Does anybody actually believe this drivel? All the young dudes follow the news.
lcfc_amie Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 That article made me laugh. He can do what he wants on his days off, as long as he plays well on Sunday, then it doesn't matter to me.
GingerrrFox Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Rugby players are renowned for drinking. I've seen Manu Tuilagi drinking pints of vodka on nights out before and you still see him at the top of his game playing for England, plus St Ledger didn't train Wednesday or Thursday because he was in London at Nike Town Thursday afternoon. So no doubt he was fit and raring to go at training today.
Out Foxed Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 He's a plastic paddy and damn proud of it too. fixed

Jace Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Its up to the manager end of the day to decide wherever he has done something wrong. Just sounds very relaxed to me with the build up of a very important match to the club obviously their is some debate over fitness as with rugby it is more relaxed than football but then again they are much larger heavier athletes. We've seen this arguement come up recently with Rooney and Sir Alex where Rooney looked tired in training after going out when he shouldn't of done and he wasn't even drinking but was dropped and fined sounds like quite a difference between strictness in Premiership and Championship level. Maybe thats why we are not good enough?
1964FOX Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Can't believe anyone is concerned about this, he's 27 and super fit and should be fully recovered by the following afternoon, I would have been at that age. Let him him have a bit of fun it will have absolutely nothing to do with his performanace on Sunday.
Captain... Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Can't believe anyone is concerned about this, he's 27 and super fit and should be fully recovered by the following afternoon, I would have been at that age. Let him him have a bit of fun it will have absolutely nothing to do with his performanace on Sunday. For me it is not a case of him having a drink, it is more the public way in which he has done it, getting drunk in public and acting like a bit of a tit when you are a (moderately) high profile footballer is just a bit silly. He must know that any indiscretions, however minor, will get blown out of proportion and be splashed over the papers.
