YOU CAN'T FIT EVERYTHING AND EVERY CHARACTER IN THE BOOKS INTO A TV PROGRAM THAT'S 10 EPISODES LONG FOR **** SAKE.

If they're worried about the screen-time given to each characters they shouldn't vastly expand the time given to comparatively irrelevant characters from the books. Grey Worm, Missandei, the traitors of the Nights Watch, Gendry, Podric Payne, Bronn, Loras Tyrell and Asha Greyjoy are all characters that have been expanded for the sake of more "ass and titties". This is without mentioning the characters seemingly created from midair like Robb's TV wife and a multitude of whores.

All could be sacrificed to incorporate better, fleshed-out characters like the Greyjoy brothers, JonCon and Aegon and Lady Stoneheart.

Greyjoy brothers look like they've been cut (that's not a small bit of screentime, that would be a huge amount overall), Lady Stoneheart appears to have been cut (indicates her arc in the overall story is irrelevant or can be addressed another way, my guess is Arya).

At the end of the day it's got to appeal to a wider audience to garner the success it has. Subtleties that can be put across in text over thousands of pages cannot be done the same way on screen and we don't have access to characters thoughts, only their actions.

There's not been any massive ****ups yet, it's still a fantastic adaptation. I don't agree with everything they do and there's been some mistakes but it's a great show nonetheless.

Gutting that Crow's Eye will scarcely feature just so Dany gets even more pointless plots.

It is a shame. Still yearning for a Mads Mikkelsen Euron...

"Godless? Why, Aeron, I am the godliest man ever to raise sail! You serve one god, Damphair, but I have served ten thousand. From Ib to Asshai, when men see my sails, they pray."

What a ****ing don.

The greyjoy brothers arc didn't really get anywhere in the books it was obviously leading to something and that can still be achieved just without all the back story.

Same with lady Stoneheart, they can always bring her into it later but this season will have bigger fish to fry.

what bigger fish would this be? i cannot see how they can progress westeros any further without her? it would mean this season is more about essos.

Eh? Victarion was heading to Essos.

This story isn't about the throne any more, it's about Winter.

i was more on about the issues of westeros within sunspear. pod and briene and who they run into.

i must say i despised a dance with dragons. if i hear about the fighting pits once more!

The focus will be on Tyrion, Cersei and Margery, Jon and Stannis, the sand vipers and Dany with a little bit on Brienne, Arya and Sansa there is enough material in there for a cracking 10 episodes then when they bring in some of the 'missing' characters they can introduce them with a backstory rather than start their arc this season with no real conclusion.

Tbh, Brienne's plotline always confused me. We as the reader always know her quest is doomed because of Sansa's location. I'd actually prefer it if that was switched up for something a bit more interesting. I do hope we get Merribald's broken man speech though.

It seems like Jaime is going do Dorne to take Arys's(?) place. Again, not a massive change, although we might not see him going to Riverrun in that case. I think Arianne is cut as well so there'll be no Arianne/Arys love-thing.

TV does have the potential to make the Meereen arc a lot more interesting than the books, I agree I did get tiresome.

Jon is still got some way to go but his arc has got to be close to its dance of dragons ending right now. (i dont know how to do spoiler tags so i am being very careful what i write)

Arya has a little to go with. the house of black and white etc.

Sansa i can see there will be something there. nothing.....fantastical.

cersei and margery i am looking forward to!

i can see what you mean but they havent even dropped hints of Lady stoneheart. someone going round killing every lannister and frey they see should be being mentioned by now!

yeah jaime does go to dorne but if memory serves me sunspear ends up with a bit of a clusterf**k. if arianne is cut i am happy but its still part of the story that needed to be told.

with brans story already caught up with the books can someone corrrect me if im wrong

jons story: could easilly be caught up by end of season 5

Sansa: same

aryia: same

Cersei: same

Dany: same (think this will be the ending scene of season 5)

jaimie: same(yawn)

the only one i can see prolonging into season 6 would be tyrions. however if anyone mentions sivas i will murder them!

I honestly think after season 5 it will go on a 2..maybe 3 year hiatus whilst martin finishes at least the winds of winter.

4th of December, that's ages!!!

American dating (urgh). 12th April.

First time posting in this thread as I am a very late arrival to the franchise. Watched all 4 seasons between November and Feb. Funny cos I can actually remember seeing adverts for it when it was just starting on tv here years ago and thinking I would get into it because it looked like something I would like, but just never did.

I do like it and think its good, and I will watch the new ones when they come, but I do think its very overrated. I was expecting much cleverer writing, more intricate scheming. Season 4 I thought was very disappointing. Some of the characters are either pointless or shit.

I often think it tries way too hard with the violence/explicit content as well. Theres just no need some of the time.

At the start I thought the whole point was that the Starks would win in the end seeing as theyre the least morally reprehensible of the families. Fair play, Red Wedding is the best plot twist that happens so far. Im also pretty smug that I thought up my own theory about whats going to transpire while I watched it and then found out its like one of the most popular fan theories going and that its been hinted to be correct.

Fave characters: Tyrion, Varys, Khaleesi, Sean Bean (obviously), Khal Drogo.

Don't really like any of the other characters and am annoyed by many of them.

Hate: Baelish, Melisandre, Margery, Oberin, Sansa and Arya.

lol at all the tin pot actors from crap British series like Misfits and Skins popping up every 5 minutes.

Is the guy that plays Walder Frey the same guy that plays Filch in Harry Potter?

been rewatching the series.

balon greyjoy. in the season 3 finale but during season 4 episode 2 they say how the "war of the 5 kings was over."

are we meant to assume his fate like in the books where he just disappears or has it been mentioned an i keep missing it?

New trailer has got me excited again, looks very promising.

I've decided I agree with the producers and I'd rather they split from the books now. It will lessen the chance of spoiling it for book readers (There looks to be a lot of new stuff and we won't know what is book-canon and what isn't) and it also condenses and intensifies a lot of plotlines if they do it well.

You hated Oberyn? Sacrilege!

If you were looking for some cleverer writing I would really recommend the books over the show. There is a ****ton going on and a lot of characters (a fair few of which have been merged into one for the show). A lot of plotlines have also been condensed and everything is a lot less subtle, mainly due to the fact that the books are written from certain characters POV's and therefore we can't really watch what they're thinking on the show, they have to say or do things or have out of place conversations to explain things to viewers. Personally I think they've done amazingly well as an adaptation and it's still a fantastic standalone show.

I think he's still alive on the show. In the books he

falls in the sea on Pyke/murdered by Euron

Yeah but aren't there like 50 books of a million pages each? I am something of a reader but that's just not happening.

5 books so far, fairly heavy. The tv series is going to total 70 odd hours by the end. I'd recommend if you want more detail and depth, more character development etc but if it's not for you, it's not for you.

Starts tonight at 9.

It'll be interesting to see how this series goes after last season's epic conclusion.
