Good first episode I thought, looks like it's shaping up for some decent things.

I don't understand why people are watching the first 4 leaked episodes when they're going to have to wait a month to see a new one?

Decent start, but yes - looks very much like this is just setting the stage.

Decent of Jon Snow to hand out a mercy kill to Mance at the end there. Shame he's gone.

FAO Mods - we already have a thread on this topic...perhaps a merge might be useful?

Think there are certain types who will

- The type who just can't resist, they absolutely cannot control the urge to watch them and they'll be pining for episode five and devastated to wait four more weeks for it

- The type who will watch it just so they can say "I've seen up to episode four, you know, you should download them and watch it" even though they've only seen them in SD (believe the leaked episodes are SD only)

- Similar to number two, snarky people who will watch the first four then, for the next three weeks, contstantly bring up to their friends that they've seen it and keep dropping hints about what will happen in each episode. The type of person who likes to feel prestige and special.

Don't watch it myself but I admire something which is so well made and so globally popular.

You are of course correct and it's definitely not equally sad to get hung up on watching the HD edition of something instead of the peasants' SD one.

My friends and I were going to spend yesterday evening tasting beers and playing war games, but with the news of the first 4 being out we decided we'd have a beer & GOT marathon instead... and we all enjoyed ourselves.   Which of your forms of narcissism do we fall under just out of interest?

Have you played the GoT board game?

I have not but would like to.  Currently got a Necromunda, Battle of the Bulge, and a D&D campaign on the go right now though so may be a while getting around to it.

That's a lot on your plate :P Would definitely recommend if you're into GoT and gaming.

+1 for sharp tongue tone of your post.

You're under no form of narcissism, so long you don't go parading the fact you've watched them to everyone. If anything you're better because you had a marathon with friends, so you can all enjoy and talk about what you watched.

SD is a bit peasantry though, you have to admit that at least? Why watch something in 480p when you can watch it in 720/1080p?

I found the first episode quite disappointing really. The acting wasn't great, the plots were pretty much treading water. Still excited about this season, but I'm not overwhelmed so far...

I'm not overly keen on the religious angle so far in this series with the sparrows. Also the ending of episode 4 is savage and now I'm gutted I've got to wait 4 weeks for a new one

The series has always had a strong focus on the universe's religions, what exactly about this new group of zealots annoys you?

Well that's a relief.

I genuinely don't see the point in getting concerned at the differences between pixel counts beyond the point where everything's already well defined and clear.  In my experience the presence of a few more pores on an actor's face tends not to affect my enjoyment of the film.

I just don't like the direction they have gone with the Sparrows, unlike the other religious views within the series it's just come straight out of nowhere and suddenly taking over the capital. It just seems like one minute it's a small cult and the next it is large enough and powerful enough to arrest the Queen's brother. Just not very believable and seems unrealistic to me

Any episode with Melisandre in is a good episode. What I'd do to that women, the evil cow.

I know, she is sexy.

I was going to watch an episode every week but there is no chance I will be that patient.

It's GOT, of course it's unrealistic lol. I need to rewatch the shows because I'm struggling to recall how they were explained, but in the books they're the result of popular protest against corruption in the Church and they draw in pretty much all the devouts of the Seven Gods and all the poor in King's Landing so their sudden rise is well-explained.  They then go on to force a member of their group into the position of High Septon at which point Cersei militarises them to avoid having to pay back a large debt to the Faith which was now under their control.  I got the impression in the TV series that Cersei militarises them as a tactic to get back at the Tyrell's which is why I need to watch the episodes back over because I feel I must have glossed over on a lot!
