JonnyBoy Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 off the subject i know, but...smashing form this season with Everton, is it a dissapoinment we never managed to snap him up in summer? Think he would of done well at city?
Finnegan Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 He was never coming here, we couldn't afford him and he wanted a Premiership move. Just glad he's making a mug of the morons that thought he wasn't good enough for us just because he plays in the SPL. Might be a shit league but that doesn't mean there can't be the odd gem in there and anyone who'd bothered to actually watch Jelavic already knew he had the athleticism and the touch to be an asset to any tidy side.

ScouseFox Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 Smashing form? Making a mug of his doubters? He's scored twice in two months (I think). And missed an absolute sitter today. He's hardly Messi.
Grewks Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 there are some tidy footballers in the spl, its the poor standard of coaching and managerial knowledge which lets the players down.

He's hardly Messi. everytime i watch MOTD he scores! Everton are usually on towards the end. Probably fallen asleep by then
Saxondale Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 Doesn't matter that he was only playing in the SPL. Look at Grant Holt - he looks absolutely sh1t hot in the Prem and he's spent most of his career at places like Shrewbury, Rochdale and even those small-time minnows the Forest! I think strikers can often make the step-up more easily - if you can score goals, you can score goals.
foxesfan1989 Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 Talking of Everton players, i heard Sven had Stracqualursi on trial last summer and didn't sign him! It mentions it in this article in fact: http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Jermaine-Beckford-Leicester-City-s-pound-4-5m-man/story-13245352-detail/story.html
Ziggy1990 Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 ...Could turn out to be a smashing buy for Everton. For a championship side to pay what Rangers wanted for him though would have been mental!
JonnyBoy Posted 25 March 2012 Author Posted 25 March 2012 good to see a fresh talent at Everton like the club, don't have loads of money but Moyes always does quite well Good for them
cc_star Posted 25 March 2012 Posted 25 March 2012 Everton got a discount too Because Rangers still owed Everton £1.5m for from Michael Balls' transfer, it was the balance of a £6.5m fee from 11 years ago or something. He would never have come to the Championship & it was far too much to spend on one player. He's hardly been prolific though, I think.

Who's saying he's Messi? You don't need to be Messi to make it in the Premiership. The bulk of the "World's Best League" is made up of distinctly average journeymen and Jelavic is well and truly capable of competing at that level, he's a solid striker and he's done okay since he's been there.

Bit touchy tonight aren't we?
StanSP Posted 25 March 2012 Posted 25 March 2012 It's not a disappointment because we have absolutely no way of knowing how he would have performed here. Add that to the fact that Nugent and Beckford have scored 27 (?) goals between them this season? Could be better but Nuge might even reach 20 this season alone, which is what we've always craved from a striker. Plus the fact we got one on a free and the other cheaper than Jelavic. I reckon Jelavic would have been just as much a gamble as the signing of Beckford, if not more, especially if we paid the price that Everton did, even with the £1.5m taken off.
StanSP Posted 25 March 2012 Posted 25 March 2012 I've only seen him score tap ins Watch his goal vs Tottenham. Not a tap in and for him to direct it in with his right foot, he made it look very easy when it wasn't easy at all.

Finnegan Posted 25 March 2012 Posted 25 March 2012 Yes we could.... Literally we may have, the Thais may have budgeted for it, but you consider the wages and the fees and paying his agent I'm not sure we'd have been wise to be paying that. I'd call that "couldn't."

Finnegan Posted 25 March 2012 Posted 25 March 2012 "amazing" He's playing in the Premiership, doesn't look at all out of place and is leading the line for David Moyes' top half side. For the Nth time, nobody's saying he's "amazing," is destroying the league, is comparable to Messi, is the best player in the world, is signing of the season or anything else. But he is too good for us. Get over yourself.

m00nie Posted 25 March 2012 Posted 25 March 2012 i agree with finners, he seems to be holding his own for me. hes only played 6 games and not all starting. hes scored 2 so far and can see more coming with games..
Finnegan Posted 25 March 2012 Posted 25 March 2012 someone can't take a joke. If it was funny I'd have laughed.
