Carl the Llama Posted 29 March 2012 Posted 29 March 2012 Inspired by an ongoing convo in the what are you watching thread, I thought I'd open up a space for us all to rant and rave about our favourite alcoholic beverages. I'll kick off with this beauty: Poured from the bottle. Like some British ales (and I imagine some other beers elsewhere) this beer referments in the bottle - meaning there's sediment at the bottom. Pour til the bottle's half empty, give it a swirl to mix the sediment up and pour the rest; cloudy, perfect hoegaarden every time. Some places have it on tap; this is a mistake. Some people buy it in cans and therefore pasteurised. This is an affront to God. Serve from chilled on a sunny day and chuck a slice of lemon on top for the optimal experience. Cheers!
lcfcadam Posted 29 March 2012 Posted 29 March 2012 Unfortunately Hoegaarden is not the drink it used to be, having been acquired some years ago by one of the giant international brewers (InBev). Still drinkable but with clearly a more commercially-reasonable recipe. If I could only drink one drink for the rest of my life?
I am Rod Hull Posted 29 March 2012 Posted 29 March 2012 This from a pub in Burton-on-Trent from an oak cask. Like honey...
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 March 2012 Posted 29 March 2012 This from a pub in Burton-on-Trent from an oak cask. Like honey... Never tried it but do by my Pop a 4 pack of it each Xmas. As he always goes on about how Bass is Best. Fooken hard to find over here and expensive when you do find it. Don't think i was able to find it last xmas and brought him some other English beer.

lcfcadam Posted 29 March 2012 Posted 29 March 2012 Also this is a good idea for a thread. "What are you drinking now?" is too full of drunks or people drinking speciality teas...
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 March 2012 Posted 29 March 2012 Also this is a good idea for a thread. "What are you drinking now?" is too full of drunks or people drinking speciality teas... We should ban any one that states Budwiser or crap like WKD or Bacardi
lcfcadam Posted 29 March 2012 Posted 29 March 2012 We should ban any one that states Budwiser or crap like WKD or Bacardi If one's idea of the ultimate imaginable beverage is a bottle of Bud or WKD or Bacardi Breezer, then I fear for that person's soul...
Gold Coast Fox Posted 29 March 2012 Posted 29 March 2012 Seeing as wkd is banned. Found it to be quite nice.
Carl the Llama Posted 30 March 2012 Author Posted 30 March 2012 Unfortunately Hoegaarden is not the drink it used to be, having been acquired some years ago by one of the giant international brewers (InBev). Still drinkable but with clearly a more commercially-reasonable recipe. If I could only drink one drink for the rest of my life? The recipe's not changed, there are still the same 5 ingredients (water, yeast, wheat, coriander and orange peel), in the same ratios. All they've done is increase production by adding more facilities and exported a shitload more. The fact that it referments in the bottle means that no-matter how far it travels, the beer still retains that sweet Hoegaarden flavour. Mmmmmm.
CKB Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 This This And this Are my fav drinks nowadays when i do have a tipple
Captain... Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 I mentioned this in another thread recently but I will bring it up again: Flor de Caña: Truly beautiful rum, When I fancy a Whisky I love a bit of Talisker:
The Doctor Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 We should ban any one that states Budwiser or crap like WKD or Bacardi Roo Fox for mod! Brewdog stuff is always good in particular the Alice Porter & Punk IPA. Moorhouses brewery put out some nice stuff too. Sam Smiths Extra Stout & Old Brewery Bitter are very nice too. My current tipple of choice though is: Lovely stuff - caramel flavour with a hint of heather and peat.
I am Rod Hull Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 We`ve got a bottle of Cherry Lambrini in the fridge... And Peach Its not mine, its the Mrs. I only have a glass if we run out of pop. ___________________________ Anyways...
steveherbe Posted 30 March 2012 Posted 30 March 2012 Mr Al Snrub - or summat like that - stated: Lovely stuff - caramel flavour with a hint of heather and peat. " Now, a taste of Heather wouldn't be too bad, but a taste of Peat sounds a bit to gay for me.
