OzFox Posted 5 February 2013 Author Posted 5 February 2013 If I was going to use one of those for an example of the ills of the world at this moment in time I know which one I would choose. Some people need to get their priorities striaght, 7 billion of us, 8 of them. Who needs to grow up and open their eyes?
RobHawk Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 I think there's a difference between people killing people and people killing animals! They are both wrong but not comparable in my opinion! There are billions of humans on this earth and we as a species have constantly fought and killed each other for various reasons. A human killing an animal for sport/trophy seems to suggest we are superior and we can do what we like. Personally i think as a species we (humans) are scum. The animals of the earth deserve to roam just as freely as we do! Now if those animals die of drought, or start killing each other then that's life! But what right do we have as a species to wipe out other species for no real gain!
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 7 billion of us, 8 of them. Who needs to grow up and open their eyes? You if you think the life one endangered creature is more important than 34 human lives.
stix Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 You if you think the life one endangered creature is more important than 34 human lives. They're equally as important. Who said you had to choose?
Guest BlueBrett Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 You if you think the life one endangered creature is more important than 34 human lives. 34/7,000,000,000 vs 1/8 I think the relative sadness of the incidents is certainly up for debate. Both are ultimately just symptoms of greed so perhaps we should reflect more on the common cause than the individual outcomes.

It is sad that that Rhino has been killed but I am guessing what they're doing is illegal and the point I am trying to demonstrate is there are bigger issues to worry about and certainly more worthy of demonstrating that "the world has gone mad" than four people attempting to do something highly unethical and deporable but in the end something they're going to make a complete fortune on.
RobHawk Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 So we are the superior species. But as the superior species what right so we have to wipe out other species of animals? You talk about 1 rhino and 34 human lives but i wonder how many rhinos have been killed to support human lives? But that's OK because we are superior? Bullshit! We are not talking about killing for food or for essential survival, we are talking about killing for the sake of rich arseholes looking for another trophy for their hunting room. I just think as a species we have alot to answer for when it comes to killing and destroying this planet! With your attitude we may as well kill all animals because we are superior and can live without them! What a depressing world that would be!
MooseBreath Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 You'd get cats and dogs on JSA if some people had their way
RobHawk Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 You'd get cats and dogs on JSA if some people had their way That's a ridiculous statement and is less constructive than doing a shit in the middle of the screen! If you have something worthwhile to add then do it! If not just **** off!!

You are missing the point The actions of these people are not the actions of our "species" they are actions of a proportion of them this is the point. I refuse to take responsibilty for that anymore than I do the actions of terriosts or muderers it has nothing to do with. As I've said I doubt what they're doing is legal. I and the majority of people here, probably have never and never will own anything from the ivory of a Northern White Rhino so how is this our responsibilty. The world is a very depressing place, and there are better examples of it than this.

As long as you don't get beat up or don't beat anyone up yourself you are ok! Doesn't make it right ! I'm not denying that other things in the world are messed up but if you consider the bigger picture, this species is only where it is because of our species! It may be too late to rectify it but surely we should try?
MooseBreath Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 That's a ridiculous statement and is less constructive than doing a shit in the middle of the screen! If you have something worthwhile to add then do it! If not just **** off!! Constructive, worthwhile. Those are hardly words I'd use to describe debating the fate of a distant rhino on foxestalk. Besides I disagree. My point is that if you let the animal rights pansies have their way, we humans would basically be nothing but rape fodder for local horses. We should respect animals and yada yada yada but let's not go overboard here.

RobHawk Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 And what the blue fvck am I goint to do about it. More importantly besides arguing with me what are you doing about it. That is a great question! One i could answer by spouting a load of BS about i do this and i do that but i won't do that because im here for debate and not just to try and look good in front of strangers! So what do i do? Not a lot! I support the action already being taken and believe that this is right. Now i know I've just accused you of doing nothing (although figuratively so this answer may sound obtuse. However, i have continually talked about us as a species and i believe us as a species should always do something. My small bit to that cause is belief that they are right and support that all species should be protected. I've also accessed a public forum and debated my belief and defended why i think they are right. Let's not lie, in the grand scheme of things I've done so very little it hardly counts - but anything no matter how small is better than nothing. Could i do more - hell yeah! Is it my life's priority ? No! but do i think its right! Yes i do! And getting people to believe that is half the battle!
Reynard Bleu Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 Humans are expendable, numbers are sustainable even allowing for a significant increase in the killing of the species. Alas, not so the white rhino and many other of this worlds wonderful animal life. We all have a our own local priorities but we should protect our wildlife because we can and whilst we can.

But from what I can gather you don't do anything. So your playground analogy was a little silly really wasn't it.
OzFox Posted 6 February 2013 Author Posted 6 February 2013 You if you think the life one endangered creature is more important than 34 human lives. Slight twisting of the figures there mate. I do prioritise entire species over the lives of a few people, especially when animals are largely outnumbered, defenceless and aren't killing each other in the name of religion. You're a Leicester fan right? Surely you can understand the concept of rooting for the underdog. Pick a species at random, and the odds are that we're shitting all over it. Elephants for instance, are being decimated now that the Asian quacks are running out of rhinos. And there is plenty you can do about it if you are bothered My point is that if you let the animal rights pansies have their way, we humans would basically be nothing but rape fodder for local horses. We should respect animals and yada yada yada but let's not go overboard here. You're probably right to be worried. There's a big Shire horse with your name on it
ADK Posted 16 November 2013 Posted 16 November 2013 I've always thought the solution to saving animals is first world countries raising them in captivity.
Strokes Posted 16 November 2013 Posted 16 November 2013 Only shit animals are endangered, if they did the decent thing and tasted nice we would farm them.
OzFox Posted 16 November 2013 Author Posted 16 November 2013 I've always thought the solution to saving animals is first world countries raising them in captivity. Zoos are effectively becoming arks at the moment. There's a debate going on about whether they should be keeping the big, furry animals that people want to see and that makes the zoos money, or should they be stocking the lesser known animals that are about to go extinct.
Mike Oxlong Posted 16 November 2013 Posted 16 November 2013 Another "not normal" killing! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/southamerica/brazil/10177786/Brazilian-man-dies-after-cow-falls-through-his-roof-on-top-of-him.html
ADK Posted 16 November 2013 Posted 16 November 2013 I think that zoos ought to gravitate away from the Victorian model of basically being public attractions with little thought to animal welfare towards being centres of conservation. The funding needs to come from government not the public.
