Did Nigel watch the game?

Recommended Posts

I have supported Nigel throughout the season but he is starting to come out with the same old excuses every week, if he thought the player's effort was good last night he was watching a different game. considering we needed a win the players effort was lacklurster. All the promise and hope this season and a total let down.

I thought the effort was there to be fair, just lacked a cutting edge/spark.

For whatever reason Burnley were very defensive like the point meant everything to them! Drinkwater and Wellens were both trying to feed the wide players and strikers all game but we couldnt break them down. Marshall and Dyer didnt quite get going last night i dont think which didnt help

I'd be somewhere in the middle of the previous two points. The effort was there to get into the final third, but as said above - we have no cutting edge or spark when teams come and sit on the 18 yard line. However, when you have 4/5 players who could have done more/played better I guess you start getting problems. We didn't play badly enough to lose, neither did we play well enough to win - which seemed to suit the players.

More passshhuuuuun was needed, and more desire to get into the final third, we had a few decent crosses into the box which nobody got close to...when was the last time we scored from a set piece/corner/header?

If you listen to any manager week in week out they pretty much say the same stuff, We as fans have the advantage of being in the stands so we can air our frustrations and "true" feelings freely. I'm sure Nigel was less diplomatic in the dressing room when not on the record

has there ever been an enjoyable or even half decent match against Burnley? I always associate it with freezing cold , terrible away travel and 1-0 defeats or 0-0 draws . I cannot even remember a single one of their players' names

he does talk a load of crap sometimes and kept saying time scales in which to achive success fearing for his job i bet

Maybe he was practising for when he boycotts Leeds?

In truth his interviews are appalling every week, no animation or insight, he trots out the cliche's, and is generally unpleasnt.

Of course he is within his rights to do that, but if he doesnt demonstrate that he has any ideas of how he is going to correct the problems, or...that he even recognises there are problems, then he must accept that listeners may consider him incompetent and lacking in the requirements to do the job.

The man has delusions of grandeur that is what makes him so great

He's in an impossible position - does publicly slating his players for dull 0-0 draw really get LCFC any closer to success, I don't think so.

I don't think the team were crap enough or the result bad enough for Pearson to lay into them big time. There are "winning mentality" issues in the squad definitely but IMO that's not really going to be looked at in earnest now until pre-season

Just a dull nothing to play for affair - roll on August!

I can't stand his interaction with the media. In fairness to Stringer, he asks Pearson the right questions in a professional manner and his responses are mostly pathetic and at worst down right rude.

If we were winning you would put up with it, but, when people want answers and to see a reaction... "Ummmm no" and "we'll keep that behind closed doors" doesn't cut it.

I don't mind Nigel, my heart says give him preseason and 10 games. But my head says he's not going to lead us forward.

That is what I am feeling as well do I follow the optimists who say NP will get us promoted next season? their is no excuses now his honeymoon period was over a long time ago, also another thing if he cannot motivate the players than it says it all really we cannot keep on changing the squad every summer the manager has to work with the players, admittantly some are past their best Wellens, Dyer, Gallagher, Howard, but with that squad of players if he couldn't get them into the playoffs than for me want evidence is their to suggest he can get this team promoted from this division.

What do you expect? him to come out and say 'yeah we're getting rid of so and so'? he's the manager of a football club and it would be unprofessional to say the least.

Also the players put in the effort, BUT in the final third we were poor, too many misplaced passes and not enough cutting edge

Manager interviews straight after games are waste of time, they've not had enough time to reflect on the game, they will not have witnessed every aspect of it and will either be reluctant to say anything worth while in case they've misinterpreted it or they'll be mad at some happening and get themselves into trouble with the authorities.

Give them 24 hours to come up with something constructive if they still end up saying nothing worth while either don't publish it or stop interviewing them.

It worries me that so many people say that NP doesnt have the tactical awareness to take the club forward. Is this really the case, or is it solely the performance of the players....

I cant really decide given that I only catch every other game on a dodgy stream, but the comments on forums often say how when things aren't going well he doesn't change the formation etc, which is something that I can always remember MON doing for example.

Do you think he is clever enough (tacticallly) to get us into the top 2 next year?

Only if he is clever enough to avoid the sack.

was watching the stream last night, and what really annoyed me most is when the camera cut to pearson, all he seemed to be doing was shruging his shoulders and giving little arm type motions from waist height without moving his arms to any great degree, his body language just seemed to say "i dont know what to do any more" "i've tried everything i can"

Summised from a few shots on a stream?

He was out trying to get the team to keep the upped tempo going for much of the second half.

Oh Babylon!!!! ..... I sit directly behind the manager and watch his movements with as much interest as the game. He simply wasn't animated at all last night. He seemed a pretty forlorn figure standing and watching the game. He occasionally clapped encouragement to Marshall in particular but apart from that wasn't the NP of old pointing and directing play. Simply can't agree I'm afraid .... But i did forget my Nigel tinted specs that you lent me!!!!

The big screens showed him coming out of the tunnel at the start and he didn't look happy but difficult to accurately read much from body language during a dour encounter with nothing to play for where the away team have parked the bus? Doubt his working life is a laugh a minute right now but we shouldn't read too much into that until something more definite comes out

I watched on stream as well, and NP looked like he was dreaming about lying on a beach somewhere, he definitley didnt look interested in the game. 'Course, that could've been because the cameras only cut to him when he WASNT waving his arms about.
