Nigel Pearson (not a moan, just a question)

That's what we need after shit performance the manager to entertain us with a few jokes a couple of songs and maybe a little dance, can he play an instrument?

I'm sure we've had that before.

If he’s not learned to juggle, ride a unicycle and do at least 50 card tricks before November , I say we should sack him !!

lol I agree. I'm especially looking forward to the card tricks on the radio.

Stringers only asking the questions that the fans want asked really

No one's denying that but Stringer should know by now he's not going to get an answer so why keep asking questions you know are going to be irritating all he's doing is reducing his chances of even getting an interview.

Don't mind his interviews, people say he's not entertaining but i find the Stringer/Pearson interviews quite funny.

I thought today though he took out all the frustrations of the season and the fact he doesn't want speculation ruining his transfer activity out on Stringer. Sometimes Stringer asks daft questions and deserves a Pearson slap down. Today Stringer worded his question quite carefully and Pearson turned it into individual names himself. Didn't think Stringer deserved his slap down today.

You can laugh , but when I was a kid there was a ventriloquist on the radio ( Peter Brough ) :D

Yeah i can see that but no doubt if he didnt ask those questions people on here would be calling for him to be sacked hes not doing his job properly etc etc, so he cant really win

Listening to Mr.Pearson's interview on radio leicester today, he has gone up massively in my estimation , no BS... told it like it is....Ive always been an agnostic up until now.,..I feel reassured we are in the right hands at the moment.... roll on next season..!

Depends where you're viewing it from I find Stringer annoying asking questions about signings and contracts he knows Pearson wont answer, obviously from this thread some think Pearson is to blame for not answering them.

Personally id prefer him to ask the questions see what little he can get. Pearson shouldnt really get too wound up about it though because he should know stringers just trying to do his job and if you dont want to answer just give the usual i dont want to speculate response

You could hear his lips move.

Tony Hancock.......sad case genius.

Hang on, this isn't an entertainment business, it is professional sport.

There are huge differences but the one which probably causes fans most problems is the fact that professional football is competitive. If you go to the cinema, you can look at the advertising and have a rough idea of what is going to happen. If there is a bloke pulling a funny face, it will be a funny film. If you have a bloke and a women in a flirty pose, it will be a romantic comedy.

With professional sport, including football, events do not follow a script. Many in the media will try to write scripts and sub-plots, but events will not necessarily follow this. This must be why fans get so disappointed...things don't follow the script they have believed will happen or invented for themselves.

So...if you want a happy ending, go to the pictures!

On Pearson's interview, it was a bit strange and did put a downer on a very entertaining game (from the radio) from which many felt positive about the new season. Recent interviews between Pearson and Stringer have been quite jolly so it is hard to understand. The last interview Pearson gave which really left me puzzled was the one following the Cardiff playoff game away where he was talking about rebuilding needing doing but he didn't know whether he would be the one doing the rebuilding. Today he mentioned the owners and hinted that he would still be here next season, so it is very puzzling.

Let's hope he didn't spot Sousa sitting in the stands!!

I'd agree with that. He asked what he should be asking ... is the player that's out of contract in the next few days but played the second half going to be here next season ..... any other manager would have said "we'll see, we haven't had a chance to talk properly yet" or batted it of without being an arse. NP just gets defensive and sounds like a petulant child. It hard;y instils confidence that he is the leader / manager that inspires respect.

So I agree it sounds daft to criticise his interviewing technique, and he should be judged by results. But when results have been average at best we are clinging to hope that he is the person to lead us forward - and acting like a petulant child on the radio doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Oh, come off it.

You make it sound like he's a stand-up comedian. Yeah, it is an entertainment business, but you're meant to be entertained by the players on the pitch, not the little interview with the manager afterwards.

What's important is how well he gets the team performing, not how happy he sounds or informative he is in interviews. I suppose he could tell us all which players he plans to buy and sell, but this could only have a detrimental effect on our own players' morale, our chances of signing another club's player, and the public's opinion of him being disrespectful of other clubs and their managers by unsettling their players.

Why not judge him on what's important?

I actually agree with the bulk of what you say, and yes I'd like to judge him on what's important.

What's important is that we have had a below satisfactory result on the pitch since his return. So I'm trying to be excited by the fact that the trend may be positive and that he is showing the attributes to be a more successful manager. I heard that today on the radio with a quite positive end to the season and a good result ..... then he comes out and pops that bubble with a defensive interview in which he sounded childish. It really didn't help to build on that fragile optimism that he'd built.

Wrong. People pay a lot of money in the hope of being entertained. If people just wanted to just watch football they could do that over the local park. Interviews by the manager, players etc. are all part and parcel of the entertainment with fans eager to know what is going on. As people say, Pearson does not have to show his cards but the least he can do is be civil during an interview.

I am not one of the Pearson moaners but it is part of his job to attend interviews, answer questions and he should have learnt by now to show some appreciation that the fans want to know whether he lets anything out or not.

Not wrong at all. It's your prerogative to go to games, to support a team. It's not their duty to entertain you at all, it's their job to try and be successful, to earn money.

You couldn't be much father from the mark.

Ah, okay. I do see what you mean. I was a bit surprised to hear Pearson say he was disappointed with the performance, myself. It did sound like we played pretty well, but then I am relying on the commentary as I couldn't see the match myself. I suppose you could see it as a good thing. If the manager recognises that there's room for improvement, even after a match that most people think we played well in, then maybe he'll strive for higher standards than most of us would. On the other hand, I can see why people wouldn't want him to sound negative when it's unnecessary, though.

I actually agree with this too .... I only had the commentary to form an opinion from and was surprised that he wasn't happy - I instantly rationalised that the same way - great we've won, commentators seem happy with performance and yet the manager isn't. Fab - he's setting the bar higher ..... but then picking on stringer for doing his job .... just comes across as pathetic and weak, not great attributes for a leader!!!!

You could not be further from the mark. Do you really think that if they just played football and in Pearsons case just managed, yet never gave interviews etc the fans that paid their money would be happy with that? If they acted like they could not give a toss do you think there would be 20000+ people going to a game?

Who gives a **** about interviews... this nitpicking is ridiculous

yes he could have said this or maybe said that

yes he could have humoured the buffoon of an interviewer

but he doesn't and he didn't

Let him get on with the job of building a team capable of actually playing as one this summer & let the club's press manager do the rest. FFS!

There are so many issues with this post!!!

Fans loyalty is called in to question if they don't go to the game, or if they say anything negative and yet it's their prerogative to not attend. You can't have it all ways ....

It's not optional who you support. You support a team forever

It is optional whether you attend or not though. I'll still attend whether i like NP or not but some will choose to stay at home.

If things get really bad then more people will stop going .... why???

Because they are not being entertained.

Sport is entertainment. I can't wait to go to the basketball tomorrow evening ..... why?? Do i love basketball?? Not especially, i do love the spectacle though, the team and the fans in it together, the passion from the manager, the high scores and the skill on display.

Does the Coach's behaviour matter ..... YES - I can't wait for a dodgy decision - i instantly watch him jump out of his seat and go ballistic ..... it's part of the fun!!! It's sport, as a spectacle.

i ENJOY watching it. So i go. If i didn't I wouldn't.

May as well close the forum for 3 months then.

Well, not really. Some of us are more interested in seeing which players leave, and which new players are brought in, than interviews with the manager. I think what the manager actually does is far important than what he says.

All I'm dismissing is your comment that it's an 'entertainment' industry. It's not, it's a business. Of course entertainment is part and parcel and obviously it's a better experienced for all involved if it's entertaining but when the chips are down the manager and the club can do what they want.

It would be lovely if the manager was 100% honest and told us all his plans for the next 3 months but it doesn't work like that. I'm not saying his interviews and whatnot are great, only that that's way he decides to conduct business. He is obviously totally focused on the team.

So if we were bottom of the league but Pearson was cracking jokes in every interview you'd still go? But if we were bottom of the league and Pearson was miserable you wouldn't? Surely he should be miserable that we're shit? If he was haooy with us I'd be more concerned.

This thread is ridiculous. Absolutely typical of everyone who just wants to find something to moan about.

Entertainment is subjective.

If we were losing 3-2 and 4-3 most weeks would you be entertained and want more?
