So who would you rather have? A greedy, self-confessed bung taker?

And here it is, obviously the England manager has to be English

The rest of Europe/World must find us hilarious, the England managers position has been a running public farce for years, English managers fail, the fact that the England manager doesn't have to be English dawns on us all, Sven does a reasonable job but yes is viewed as terrible, oh dear, terrible foriegners, evil foriegners, next manager MUST be English, this is clearly the secret, appint McLaren, he was terrible (as I warned you all he would be at the time, you being one of his biggest supporters I believe) wait a minute, The England manager doesn't have to be English! Let's get a top European coach, does a reasonable job, gets sacked, next England manager MUST be English.

It's laughable. It's no wonder we never do well.

The manager of Spain is Spanish, they do alright.

if only our players were as good as theirs...I reckon the manager would become pretty irrelevant.

If we don't do well with a foreign manager the players aren't good enough. If we don't do well with an English manager it's because we haven't got a foreign manager.

Our best 3 finishes in tournaments, 66, 90, 96, have all been with English managers so there is no evidence that English managers can't achieve as much as their foreign counterparts.

My uncle was in the merchant navy in the 60’s and 70’s and often used to dock at Port Elizabeth.

Now I know the part he played in supporting and supplying this evil regime I shall never speak to him again.

Nobody is suggesting you should definitely have a foreign manager. Most are either saying you must have an English manager or you should hire the best person available regardless of their nationality.

In 66, 90 , etc you may have done well with an English boss but that doesn't mean the best choice now is an English one.

I want to clear up a bit about this story.

It is fact that the journalist that started this story is a West Ham fan and friend of Redknapp.

It's fact his nose has been put our of joint by the appointment of Hodgson.

And it's fact that Geoff Hurst AND Bobby Moore were also in South Africa at the same time as Hodgson.

So... well... it's bollocks drummed up by a bitter journo.

Please dont buy into his arrogance.

This is pretty much spot on.

We've had 2 foreign managers and the best we've finished is quarter finals which is par for England. If we're not going to achieve anything then it might as well be with a reasonably priced Englishman as an over paid foreigner.

Who did Bobby Moore play for in South Africa?

Aye, too much is made of the managers, our players have been generally not good enough and we've no chance of winning a tournament for a long while.

As for the media, who's that fat tosser who's on SSN every week talking about what's in the papers? I remember him talking about that Capello index rubbish, the papers were all crucifying him for it even though it meant nothing, and he was trying to defend them saying 'we're tired of England's tournaments being destroyed byt things like this, we are making a big deal out of it for the good of the country' lol

Of course they want England to fail.
