IdiotequeFox Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 http://www.mirror.co...heid-era-814550 http://www.telegraph...asons-only.html http://www.whoateall...-apartheid.html I really hate the majority of our media, I really do.
Daggers Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 I don't like people who support racism and racist regimes. "Couldn't do anything about it" my arse.
Milton Keynes Fox Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 I don't like people who support racism and racist regimes. "Couldn't do anything about it" my arse. He didn't support the regime by simply being there did he?
martyn Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 The front page of the Sun today reads " bwing on the euwos". The character assassination begins after 24 hours.
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 The front page of the Sun today reads " bwing on the euwos". The character assassination begins after 24 hours. that's just a bit of fun. The South Africa thing though is just petty beyond belief.
Finnegan Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 He didn't support the regime by simply being there did he? Mh, well he broke a boycott and a lot of people at the time would have likened that to supporting the regime, yes. But he was young, naive and probably lacked a real grasp of the situation. It seems disproportionate to be holding it against him forty years later. I mean the British Lions toured controversially during apartheid and took a lot of stick for going but they were cheered on massively by the black community in the country when they started beating the springboks and today the likes of JPR Williams and Gareth Edwards are celebrated as icons.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 Well it's good that it is in the public arena, a little surprised and at the time there was a lot of debate about the pros and cons if going to South Afica. It would be intresting to know what Roy has supported since then and to what degree. Any offers?
Kilworthfox Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 These cretins will write anything to sell a bloody paper. I'm sure they all hope we fail at the euros & get hammered every game just so their sales will be up 5-10% Disgusted will the press this morning!
Guest MattP Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 Absolutely pathetic from the publications, similar to dragging up that story about Pearce alledgly racially abusing Ince when it looked like he could get the job. Poor guy hasn't got a chance.
James. Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 It seems disproportionate to be holding it against him forty years later. That's a huge understatement. Our media are massive pricks. Not that I'm surprised, obviously.
Corky Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 Hodgson is in a battle I don't think he'll win. Let's be honest, his biggest crime so far is not being Harry Redknapp.
MattyFromLE Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 I really hope he proves the doubters wrong. Redknapp, yes is a very good manager - but i feel its the "cheeky chappy from london" vibes that people want to see more than taking into consideration what he can do with a squad of players. I agree also, that this countries journalists, really need to tone it down - it just looks embarrassing.
21st Century Fox Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 He came across a young player that was desperate to prolong his playing career. The British media once again come across as desperate mud rakers.
Mack Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 Harry has a lot of powerful journalist mates in the media, Roy wont have time or space to make mistakes. And I agree our media are mostly arseholes.
Guest MattP Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 Anyone think had old 'Arry got the job all his buddies in the London Media would have filled his England press conference with questions about his tax avoidance?
Daggers Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 He didn't support the regime by simply being there did he? Yes. As did everyone who played at Sun City or played in any visiting team or tournament. For someone to claim they were ignorant of the situation at the time is laughable, no one was ignorant it's just that a whole load of mercenaries didn't care about the abuse of human rights taking place in the country. They pocketed their bulging wallets and spent the cash stained with the blood of a thousand men. Considering the racist, xenophobic nature of a large section of England supporters I think it was a totally justified line of questioning now that they have Apartheid Woy as a figurehead.

Lots of people do ill judged and selfish things when they are young. Seems churlish and pointless to bring it up nearly 40 years later. I wonder if we wont be saying the same things about travellers who visit Burma in a few years time, but right now a lot of people feel the decision is evenly balanced. I wasn't around during apartheid, but if I recall reading there was not exactly 100% opposition to the idea around the world. I suspect it would not have been that hard for a young man to justify it to himself if it suited him to do so.

You havn't been to an England match for quite a while have you? You even struggle to get a "No Surrender" chant going these days.
Daggers Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 So who would you rather have? A greedy, self-confessed bung taker? I'm not aware of any ex-Mayors who were in the running for the job.
Daggers Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 Lots of people do ill judged and selfish things when they are young. Seems churlish and pointless to bring it up nearly 40 years later. Like Cardinal Sean Brady?
Guesty Posted 2 May 2012 Posted 2 May 2012 Can't wait for the day when the public wake up and realise the papers are our own worse enemy. The only reason they get so much respect is becuase we give it them. One day it will wain and they will be crawling on there knees to get to press conferences.
Jon the Hat Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Like Cardinal Sean Brady? Hell no, he and his brethren should rot in hell. But I take your point.
