Daggers Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 Changing home shirt colour is just one step further than changing away strips, changing the nickname is just one step further than changing the badge - I don't see any of this being detrimental to the soul of the club...if it has one. The only reason people are outraged about this is that they still cling onto the notion that it's 1975 and clubs are entrenched in their communities with players who will see out a career playing for their home team. Football at this level has foreign owners, players being traded like Panini swaps and managers rarely lasting more than a season. Bland football to get the points, no tackling and not one person able to take defeat graciously. I don't understand the crying because football is fvcked up and has been for many years - changing a shirt colour means shit in context.
Daggers Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 From TB: Yeah, greedy bastards subsidising us to the tune of £1m a month and now chucking £100m in too.And talking of ignorance, we originally played in brown and yellow, were called Riverside FC and our home ground was Sophia Gardens where Glamorgan (and England) play cricket. So a change to the colour/name/badge/ground/owner/players/manager/fans/staff/train times is all a part of the life of this and any club. Your's is no exception. I just hope we put the cash to better use than paying for Sven's retirement and Sousa's poorly fitting suits.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 Football is broken, there's no doubt about that, but colours are of such huge importance they shouldn't ever change. Cardiff play in blue, Forest play in red and Bradford City play in claret and amber. To the fans of these clubs, these colours are iconic and they have happy memories of watching their teams in them over decades. It's the last remaining shred of football's soul, the most basic means of respecting a club's history even if you are a hard-nosed businessman who views the club as a cash cow. You don't change the name, relocate the club or change the colours. Once you have, the identity of the club is lost.
Zingari Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 If the tradition of colours don't mean anything to the owner then maybe he wouldn't mind the fans calling him Shit Brown instead of Tan
Daggers Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 Once you have, the identity of the club is lost. No, because they are businesses - they have corporate identity and re-branding. Fans became customers or clients ages ago...clubs have no souls to lose.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 There is far more emotional attachment though Daggers. I wouldn't get emotional over Heinz changing the packaging of their spaghetti hoops because that's a commodity, my club is something I've grown up with and is a point of conversation and socialising with friends and thus holds more emotional attachment. Look at this forum for example, how many other businesses have forums devoted to them like this with such strong passions and tens of thousands of people turning out to express their devotion to them on a Saturday?
Mack Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 It seems a lot of fans will go along with anything as long as the money keeps rolling in. The Malaysians should have gone for full sheep outfits.

I seriously couldn't give a flying fvck what colour we play in if it meant watching entertaining games played with passion and flair - they can run around naked.

Hahahaha. That's funny because it's...oh, hang on, it's not funny at all - it's just a tired, tedious old play on the Welsh fvcking sheep which has been done a billion times before.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 On a lighter note; I really, REALLY hope this tweet is a wind-up. Lowrriii Luckily I look kinda cute in red as well as blue so will still be renewing my season ticket! #CCFC
Webbo Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 If this was my club I might have an opinion on it, as it is I really couldn't care less. I'm not sure why anybody else outside of Cardiff fans cares either.

Daggers Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 ..but, regardless of colour, the new shirt looks fvcking shit.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 Quite liked this picture on the Cardiff fans site. A picture from Austria emerged today with a show of support for keeping Cardiff blue. The picture (below) was taken at Austria Salzburg's home defeat to Kufstein earlier this week and posted on the website of the Union Ultras. There is a reason for their interest. In 2005 Austria Salzburg was totally re-branded and not only did the club lose their colours they were also renamed FC Red Bull Salzburg. A group of supporters started a new club under the original name and they entered the 7th tier of Austrian football. Since then then have had four promotions and will end this season and start next season in the Austrian 3rd division. FC Red Bull Salzburg, since 2005 have gone on to win four League Championships in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012. The story of the two Salzburg clubs is really interesting because both have experienced success, albeit at different levels, since 2005. I know which of the two clubs I'd be following but whether that holds for everyone else is another matter. The question is, how long before there's a FC Red Bull Cardiff or Leicester King Power? One club might consider changing the colours enough, another might want to take it a step further and rebrand the club entirely. What's the limit? EDIT: Incidentally, that is Mozart they have as their mascot!
Kitchandro Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 To be fair Finners, having read the Cardiff City forums and seeing the number of fans who are not only blithely accepting it but mocking those who are calling it for it what it is; the cynical binning of the club's heritage to shift more shirts in Kuala Lumpur, I felt it appropriate. Had it been a brave battle that was lost, I would feel more sympathy for them but obviously the acceptable price to pay for a shot at promotion is over 100 years of history and memories. It seems as though they had the right idea to begin but the Malays' blatant blackmailing tactic of threatening to cut the club's funding and treasured potential Premiership place if they didn't accept the changes has hit home. Their fans are now evidently content to look like an overgrown Wrexham, and the biggest concerns about the kit seem to be the bland design of the shirts rather than the fact they're the wrong colour. This. I feel sorry for a certain few, ones that are truly outraged and believe, as I do, that if you're changing all the traditions and identity it is no longer the same club. But, as I fear the case would be with us, there has been very little backlash from the fans, because most just want to see a successful football team, not their own club who they can identify with. Maybe there will be a bit more to it, protests and such, but it seems to me they've just laid back and taken it. I expected better. I'd like to see their attendances drop as they'd gain a little more respect back. If not, I'd like to see some other actual evidence that they majorly oppose it, rather than it being a slight disappointment that they will get over when the spending spree starts.
Kitchandro Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 I seriously couldn't give a flying fvck what colour we play in if it meant watching entertaining games played with passion and flair - they can run around naked. So why are you on a Leicester City forum - and not one of another team? There are loads of people who say this, but I ask them, if all you want to see is entertaining football, you can go and watch anyone, and if you want to see a club that's more in touch with the fans, there's plenty of those too. It seems, for some people, there is little emotional attachment to our particular club and it's traditions and I wonder why they bother having debates with people about those things particular.

Jaspa Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 Just been scrolling through their forum again, and noticed a fan with the last Cardiff badge tattooed on his arm May this never happen at this level of the ENGLISH game
RowlattsFox Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 Really don't see the point of this at all, they've still got a blue away kit Why couldn't they just keep a blue home kit but just advertise the red away kit as the home kit in Malaysia. My guess would be it will last a season, realise it made no difference at all and return to a blue home kit.
Jace Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 It would of been a much better idea if they had made this decision before building this:
Voll Blau Posted 6 June 2012 Posted 6 June 2012 Cardiff fans should be fighting this with everything they've got - banners, protests and (most importantly) with their wallets. But they won't. They'll believe the PR bullshit, take the cash, delude themselves about the riches of the Sky Sports Promised Land TM, sit back and watch this bastardised version of their club play like everything they grew up with meant absolutely nothing to them. We're pathetic in this country, pathetic. And shame on anyone who says they wouldn't mind if this happened to us.

I agree with you though All that history - Gone . . . . ahem The Malaysians might aswell have started their own club up from scratch

I'm going to let you cogitate because the answer should be bleeding obvious.
