Lovejoy Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/17996534 Cardiff City are considering a rebranding which could mean a change of colour and a significant cashinjection, BBC Wales Sport understands. This may involve the team playing in red instead of their traditional blue. The club's Malaysian investors believe red is a more dynamic colour for marketing in Asia, as well as of more national significance in Wales. No final decisions have been taken, but the owners are keen to put moremoney at manager Malky Mackay's disposal. Mackay had to almost rebuild his squad from scratch when he took over last summer following the sacking of Dave Jones. Despite the early-season disruption, Cardiff managed to reach theCarling Cup final and the Championship play-off semi-finals before losing to West Ham. The Welsh club's main investor, Vincent Tan, is also understood to be keen to develop the club's training facilities. While the shirts and club badge could change colour, Cardiff City sources categorically deny that the club - whose nickname is "the Bluebirds" - will become known as "the 'Red Dragons''. How would this go down do you reckon?
Leicesterpool Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 sounds silly to me, I don't think this will go down well with their fans.
davieG Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 We weren't even up to the idea of changing to our original name Leicester Fosse.
Webbo Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Didn't Don Revie change Leeds colours to all white in the 60s to match Real Madrid? Not sure what colour they were before.
Zingari Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 t Didn't Don Revie change Leeds colours to all white in the 60s to match Real Madrid? Not sure what colour they were before. blue and yellow , they kept it on the trim
Trav Le Bleu Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 I'm waiting for the first "Thais are similar to Malaysians, so that might mean..." reply.
davieG Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 I'm waiting for the first "Thais are similar to Malaysians, so that might mean..." reply. Our kit will include:
Narborough_fox Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Thais are similar to Malaysians so that might mean we change the colour of our kit!!!!!!!
Zingari Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 I really don't know quite why , but this story has really irritated me. edit; i know it sounds a bit melodramatic , but it's like the new owners are just trampling all over this great club's history
21st Century Fox Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 I like how someone on their board said they should incorporate the Malaysian flag into the club badge as a happy compromise.
Guest Bilo Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 We changed our kit colour once in the 1970s to all white under Jimmy Bloomfield. It only lasted the one season. Doubt Cardiff fans will be up for this if I'm honest.
Yojoe36 Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Thais are similar to Malaysians so that might mean we change the colour of our kit!!!!!!! Isn't King Power's colour scheme white, yellow and blue anyway?
Libertine Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Quite a few don't mind I hear, which is depressing. But most are pretty pissed off. Appalling really, why not just have a red third kit or something?
Finnegan Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Quite a few don't mind I hear, which is depressing. But most are pretty pissed off. Appalling really, why not just have a red third kit or something? I've not seen a single Cardiff fan saying they don't mind on the couple of boards I've read. One or two trying to calm people down saying they're definitely against but the club would carry on regardless and it wouldn't be QUITE as bad as the majority are making out. But that's about it. Any other colour and they'd never get away with it at all, re-branding the club as THE Welsh club might get a few backers outside of Cardiff but I doubt it really. Most likely get the same limp response the regions did in the rugby.

Until they can emulate what Swansea have done, that would be arguably the most retarded marketing exercise since Mansfield tried to rebrand themselves as Harchester United.

Is no one else as annoyed as me about this ? ( other than Cardiff fans )
One Arm Babba Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Didn't Don Revie change Leeds colours to all white in the 60s to match Real Madrid? Not sure what colour they were before. Probably "dirty" coloured.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 I'd be gutted if I was a Cardiff fan. But seeing as though they shouldn't be in our leagues I'll just laugh instead

Zingari Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Cardiff have never been a great club and have no history! To their fans they are "great and have history" , in just the same way as we think of Leicester City.
AdamN Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Interesting OP in this thread: http://www.ccmb.co.uk/fudforum/index.php?t=msg&th=320273&start=0&rid=0 Cardiff City will play in red next season. The dragon will become the major emblem on the club badge and the stadium will literally turn red. This change has been ordered by Vincent Tan and a red home kit and blue away kit have already been agreed for next season. The club intend to announce these changes over the next few days. Already done and dusted then?
21st Century Fox Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Possibly one of the most cynical business decisions in football for a while if true and that's really saying something.
