Cardiff could swap blue for red!

So why are you on a Leicester City forum - and not one of another team? There are loads of people who say this, but I ask them, if all you want to see is entertaining football, you can go and watch anyone, and if you want to see a club that's more in touch with the fans, there's plenty of those too.

It seems, for some people, there is little emotional attachment to our particular club and it's traditions and I wonder why they bother having debates with people about those things particular.

But it's not the end of the world. They haven't moved miles away, they haven't changed their name, the club is still there- this scheme might be a complete disaster and it's back to blue for 2013/14.

As posts above this have said- if they boycott buying the shirts then things will change. Moaning about it won't be a huge benefit- if you don't like it don't buy it.

Well maybe they shouldn't buy match tickets either, that would help even more.

If people are pissing over the identity of the club you care about you'd think people would show a bit more disdain. Who knows, maybe they will, but it seems to have happened pretty easily so far.

It's about where you draw the line. There are other clubs in Leicestershire, so obviously there is more to the clusb identity than just playing in a certain City. We've changed our name before. We've changed kits before. But it would be a totally different situation if those things were to happen again, because there's so much more history and tradition created since.

It's been explained by numerous posters in this thread already, if you don't conider the kit colour as part of the clubs identity then I just don't know what else to say.

Been away for a week and just read about this.

Words can't describe it to be honest, let's just hope the Welsh are guinea pigs and it's shut down before the rest of us have to deal with it.

I'm not really suprised that this is happening to a club with fairly minor amounts of fuss, I'm only really suprised by who its happening to; wouldn't have thought Cardiff City fans of all people would take it.

Fairly sure someone suggested it in the '90s and backed down after being thoroughly laughed at, come to think of it.

This is all much ado about nothing. It's not as if the owners decided to change the club's name and move them 60 miles away, like the Franchise.

Many other clubs have changed colours during their history - Manchester United (who started in green and gold) and Leeds (blue and yellow until the late 1950s) being the obvious example. Even Leicester switched from blue to white in 1972-73 without provoking mass hysteria, although we changed back when results failed to improve.

If I followed a club which had been out of the top flight for over 50 years and hadn't won a major trophy since 1927, I could well understand why the owners would want to look to the future, rather than dwell on a past which has often been less than glorious, including three playoff failures in successive seasons.

A section of Cardiff's fanbase has also had its own ideas on how to protect the club's "heritage, honour and tradition". But does anyone really want to see the return of the Soul Crew?

The only reason we're even giving any attention to this is because many on here are bricking it about a promotion rival potentially being able to outspend us.

Cardiff fans should be fighting this with everything they've got - banners, protests and (most importantly) with their wallets.

But they won't. They'll believe the PR bullshit, take the cash, delude themselves about the riches of the Sky Sports Promised Land TM, sit back and watch this bastardised version of their club play like everything they grew up with meant absolutely nothing to them.

We're pathetic in this country, pathetic. And shame on anyone who says they wouldn't mind if this happened to us.

I have a work colleague who is a cardiff season ticket holder, i texted 'come on you reds' to him yesterday! he is well and truely pissed off, and is seriously considering supporting Newport County from now on, and from what he says many others are too.

It's not just the colour that's changed, it's the badge as well. I think it's disgraceful, and if it did happen to leicester for no other reason than marketing reasons, I'd piss of as well.

unfortunately it's the way football is going

Rubbish. it's not just about the colour of the kit. they're changing the badge as well. it's purely for marketing reasons in ASIA!!!!, it's like getting rid of our fox, replacing it with a turtle, or whatever they have in thailand, and replacing the post horn gallop with the ladyboy shuffle or whatever.

not a fan of cardiff at all, but feel sorry for them

My reading of this is that the new owners are attempting to create a Welsh Celtic, trying to get support from ex pat Welsh and plastic taffs all over the world.

Which is doomed to failure not only for the reasons Finnegan has already cited, but also because the Welsh diaspora is nothing like as huge as the Irish diaspora that Celtic can call upon. Neither, and I mean no disrespect by this, is the affection of neutrals for the Welsh nation anything like that for the Irish; there's a reason why St. Patrick's Day is huge for example and St. David's Day is all but unnoticed past Chester.

They have the potential to be a club with decent levels of support like a Newcastle or Aston Villa from the Valleys, but anyone who thinks they could command global support on Celtic's level is seriously deluded.

I never said it would work, in fact I doubt it will, it's worth a try though. I can't see Cardiff being any worse off because of this.

What a load of crap, If you bother to look at the history of most clubs, youll see how often their badges change. For christs sake, how many times have we changed ours? The bluebird is still on there, they are still in Cardiff, and are still called Cardiff.

Yes its for marketing in Asia, I dont see the need for capital letters there really. Were you up in arms when we played a friendly against Thailand for marketing purposes? I doubt it.

For once, I think I actually agree with Accessory, Im shocked at myself lol.

And as someone else stated, this is all being blown out of proportion because people are shitting it that a rival will have bucket loads of cash to spend.

To be fair, I did detect some scepticism in your post. :D

I'm not even sure it is worth a try to be honest. The idea that Jacks are going to ditch their Premiership season ticket and come and watch their bitter rivals purely because they have the symbol of Wales on their new crest is not only retarded, it's offensive and insulting. The only way this could possibly come off is if Cardiff have a renaissance of Leeds United proportions when they switched colours, by that I mean dominating English football for the best part of a decade and going on to become of its more famous clubs (preferably without the huge financial collapse at the end).

As it is, all the owners have promised is a 'prudent' spending budget, which will mean they'll sign average players and probably end up in the play-offs before failing. Again. In the process, they'll alienate a significant proportion of their fanbase by showing to the world they don't give a stuff about them so long as the Kuala Lumpur Red Dragons Branch are happy. A big, big risk and in no way worth it for me.

So you wouldn't be bothered if Top decided that the Fox was to be relegated to a sidenote on the crest, a Thai elephant were to become the main image and the kits to change to all yellow in line with the Thai national team? Even if he to expressly say it was to garner more support on the other side of the world?

That's pretty much the equivalent to what Cardiff's owners have done. I wouldn't be bothered if he promised to sign Messi, we wouldn't be the same club. As for bucket loads, their owners have used the word 'prudent' to refer to the transfer budget; I wouldn't expect Manchester City if I were you.

Is it just me that's thinking 'why didn't they just buy Forest?' lol

They must of done some market research on the Nottingham fans first before making their decision

I couldn't even be bothered to rise to that nonsense to be honest.

Sounds remarkably to the similar to the Nazis who love bridges comment a couple of years back.

Elephants Never Forget is a gazillion times better than the fox not quitting bollocks.

Out would go the bin-dipping insults for a mascot that is flea-ridden and spreads disease and in would come an animal that some consider to be a deity. And they have trunks.

I'm loving your elephant idea, Bilo - I hope Top and his chums are reading this thread. The Red Elephants, Top, the Red fvcking Elephants FTW!

Might just be the way that I was looking at it, but with changing to red and with having the Welsh dragon on it, rather than a far Eastern one, they have become more Welsh than anything else. If we changed our kit to white and had a lion with the fox as a side note, I wouldnt be fussed by that to be honest......as long as we didnt chant 'getting mauled by the lions' lol.

I still see your point, but thats how I look at it, theyve become more Welsh than anything. It just so happens that it neatly ties up with the notion of good luck red and good luck dragons that they have out there. Id also have thought FInners would be excited by the idea of Wales becoming bigger around the world lol.

I also was not expecting spending of Man City proportions, or probably not even what we did last year. The point about that, is that they will more than likely have more money than they did last year, and therefore probably become even more of an obstacle to overcome than they already are.
