Hull Targets

New Hull boss Steve Bruce has said he intends to hang on to his best young players, which could end Leicester City's attempts to sign targets James Chester, Cameron Stewart and Liam Rosenior.

Chester is top of City boss Nigel Pearson's wish list this summer, and he is also considering a move for Rosenior if Lee Peltier's move to Leeds goes through in the next few weeks.

City also had bids for Cameron Stewart rejected by the Tigers in January as Hull stood firm to their assertion they would not sell to their former manager.

City then signed Ben Marshall from Stoke.

The arrival of a new manager at Hull, following the departure of Nick Barmby, may have opened a slight window of opportunity as, inevitably, any new manager will look to bring in his own players.

But Bruce said he is planning for the new season with his young stars in mind.

"It's vital that we keep hold of the young players we've got," said Bruce.

"It's my job along with the chairman to make sure that we do.

"There is a nucleus of a very good young squad here, and with a few additions, hopefully we will get where we want to be.

"We will look to add to the squad and look to take the team forward."

City have also been linked with Tigers midfielder Robert Koren and have reportedly had a bid for the Slovenia captain rejected.

Koren's agent, Zoran Krneta, has said the player would be interested in a move to Reading.

Meanwhile, City have been linked with a move for former Dundee United defender Paul Dixon, but the Mercury understands the 25-year-old left-back has not been approached by the club.

According to Sky Sports.com, City and Cardiff were interested in Dixon, who is a free agent after leaving the SPL club.

Dixon is understood to want a move to an English club this summer but, as of yet, has not heard from City.

Ah well. There's always Man United's reserves...

Too right mate. Maybe even if Mr Walsh (the scout) and not saying he isn't, was to look around United, Man.City, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea's reserves there maybe a hidden gem we could purchase or get on loan. Remember a certain Mr Izzet because I'd never heard of him before, same with Mr Cleverley, and see how they turned out.

im waiting for Bruce to be linked with his old players from other clubs eg Heskey, then he may have to off-load to raise funds

When Bruce went to Sunderland he signed a helluva lot of players, including several experienced but unwanted Prem players. Who's to say he wont do the same sort of thing at Hull, and all this talk of "holding onto the best players" is simply a fomulaic statement that he feels he has to make so as not to upset the fans?
