Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 July 2012 Posted 2 July 2012 ... Seconded. It's Thracian's 'almost the beginning of the season' period, he has one this time every year. I find the argument that you would take the 150k, because you have to set your family up for life, hilarious. On 15k a week I would earn earn my current lifetime's salary in little over a year. 2 years would double it. Ok, so I'm hardly living the life of Riley right now, but I get by comfortably and I'm content with what I have. I'm the kind of person who, if offered a salary of £1000 an hour would work one hour every week* and enjoy the rest of the week. I'm feel sorry for people who can't get by on less in these difficult times. *possibly less.
Guest MattP Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Top 4 club (though I couldn't play for Man U) not about money, if I was good enough for the top 4 id want a succession of medals tbh to look back on my career.

m00nie Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 But for a different company, and that can make all the difference. If you ignore the fact you're playing for a completely different team, in a completely different place, with completely different goals and objectives, increased pressure, increased media spotlight, etc etc. the JOB is still the same, FOOTBALLER.. just because you support leicester dont mean they are going to be perfect bosses to work for so.
Mark_w Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 the JOB is still the same, FOOTBALLER.. just because you support leicester dont mean they are going to be perfect bosses to work for so. He pointed out the increased pressure and media spotlight yet you completely ignored him, technically they are the same job but the difference in terms of those things is enormous. If you can't handle the possibility of your entire private life being on the back of newspapers or are uncomfortable at the prospect of every mistake you make being shown on TV every single week then they are very, very, different jobs.
AdamN Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 the JOB is still the same, FOOTBALLER.. just because you support leicester dont mean they are going to be perfect bosses to work for so. Never said they would be. But the fact you'd be playing for the club you've loved for as long as you can remember means more to some people than an increase on an already ridiculous salary. Unless your only motivation and source of happiness in life is vast quantities of money, then I can't see how that's so difficult to understand. And yeah, this.

POSSIBILTY.. all players dont have to be the center of the media, and surely all motives are the same in a footballer, TO WIN?? whether your playing at old trafford or burton albion you are still going to want to do your best, win, and you will still be picked up on mistakes you make..

Ok, I'll come up with a list of Man United players who have had public bust ups, their personal lives dragged through the papers and their mistakes analysed on TV and you can do the same with Burton?

m00nie Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Ok, I'll come up with a list of Man United players who have had public bust ups, their personal lives dragged through the papers and their mistakes analysed on TV and you can do the same with Burton? whilst your at it come up with a list of man u players that HAVE NOT been splattered in the media.. i bet you will find quite a few..
Mark_w Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 whilst your at it come up with a list of man u players that HAVE NOT been splattered in the media.. i bet you will find quite a few.. My point is there is no chance of it happening at a club like Burton, but every possibility of it happening if you play for a club like Man Utd. Jesus Christ.
m00nie Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 My point is there is no chance of it happening at a club like Burton, but every possibility of it happening if you play for a club like Man Utd. Jesus Christ. burton was in reference to a players motives.. there still going to want to WIN... but on the media front is every single TOP club player hounded in the media???? NO
Mark_w Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 but on the media front is every single TOP club player hounded in the media???? NO No but any mistake you do make is almost certainly going to be picked up. By moving to a big club you are risking that, I'm not saying it's inevitable, I'm saying it's a risk, and one I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable taking, especially if you've got the option of playing for a club you care about for what is still a ridiculous amount of money.
Captain... Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 the JOB is still the same, FOOTBALLER.. just because you support leicester dont mean they are going to be perfect bosses to work for so. You are right you are not necessarily going to enjoy playing for Leicester, and most have said they would leave if they were not happy with the manager, but that wasn't the point, the point was doing the same job at a different club/company even if for more money may not make you happy. I changed companies a few years ago same job description but more money and perks living in London, I hated it. The same could happen if you moved to a bigger club and if you are happy where you are, and I mean happy not just content, then it may not be worth the risk in upsetting that. When I worked in London I quit after 8 months and even a 500% pay rise would not have made me stay because I was miserable and I will not spend 40 hours a week being miserable.
acooling08 Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 A 15k a week is more than enough to buy everything I think I could ever want. Playing for Leicester & scoring in 95th minute to win at Forest > Playing for Barcelona and scoring winning goal in Champions league final.
m00nie Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 92 teams in the 4 leagues here.. prem/champ/1/2.. 11 players per team.. (only starting 11 let alone all the squad players which could double figure) so approx 1000 players wonder how many of those are playing for there boyhood teams ?? . i bet the figure is very very low.. wonder why..
Mark_w Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 92 teams in the 4 leagues here.. prem/champ/1/2.. 11 players per team.. (only starting 11 let alone all the squad players which could double figure) so approx 1000 players wonder how many of those are playing for there boyhood teams ?? . i bet the figure is very very low.. wonder why.. Because either a) They aren't good enough or b) Like 60% of the people on here care more about being a celebrity and having masses of money than living a more than comfortable lifestyle and playing for the club they love?
m00nie Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Because either a) They aren't good enough or b) Like 60% of the people on here care more about being a celebrity and having masses of money than living a more than comfortable lifestyle and playing for the club they love? being a celelbrity?? its about wanting achieve the best.. hence PROFESSIONAL
Harry - LCFC Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 So many people accuse players of being greedy and having no loyalty to the club. Yet we have the majority of people on here who would do the exact same thing if they were in that situation. I know I'd play for my club, and I'd keep playing for them for as long as I was able to. 15k a week is absolutely fine and I'd enjoy my football much more at Leicester.
Mark_w Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 being a celelbrity?? its about wanting achieve the best.. hence PROFESSIONAL Surely when both pay such massive amounts of money it should be about which you'd enjoy more. I know I'd enjoy playing for Leicester a lot more than Man City/Man Utd/Chelsea etc.
AdamN Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 its not just about the salary, as a professional you would want to do the best you could.. your good enough to play for a top club, win medals, trophies etc and possibly represent your country and yet you would be happy playing in the championship.. Who are you to say what I, or indeed anyone else would want to do? I don't even know why you're debating this.
m00nie Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Who are you to say what I, or indeed anyone else would want to do? I don't even know why you're debating this. so as a professional you would be happy with mediocre and wouldnt want to do your best.. ok.. why wouldnt i debate it, isnt that we do on forums?? or should we all just agree with everything everyone says
Mark_w Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 so as a professional you would be happy with mediocre and wouldnt want to do your best.. ok.. If playing for the club I love is mediocre. If doing something I'd feel passionately about rather than something I'd be doing for the money is mediocre. If being paid a fortune for doing my dream job is mediocre. Then mediocrity sounds pretty good to me.
AdamN Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 so as a professional you would be happy with mediocre and wouldnt want to do your best.. ok.. why wouldnt i debate it, isnt that we do on forums?? or should we all just agree with everything everyone says I'd want to do my best for Leicester City. I'd be happier to help get us into the Premier League or win the FA Cup than I would helping Chelsea win the Champions League. It's undebatable because that's how I feel. End of.
