Guest Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 I love dogs. And I've always had dogs but there are lany breeds that have been bred to be downright nasty. All of these breeds (and cross breeds which is where the law fails badly) should be neutered and in that way removed from society. I agree with the compulsory chipping of dogs and a small license fee to help fund dog wardens and care for abandoned dogs. The chipping and registering of dogs would also reduce the number of abandoned dogs since any abandoned dog's owners can immediately be traced and then an order for them to pay for their dogs to live out their lives in comfort - somewhere else - should be made. A dog is for 12 - 15 years not just for puppy love.
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 Dog walkers hate the weekends when fair weather park users who are there once at week at most come out and whinge about those who are there twice a day rain or shine, as if they have some right to use a shared amenity exclusively. the problem is dogs using the parks as toilets! parks are for people/kids to play/walk in, not to dodge dog shit. and there is a trend now for dogowners to bag the shit and leave the bag hanging in the hedge. it's disgusting, let your dog shit at home in your garden before bringing it out
Jon the Hat Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 But it shouldn't be allowed, half of the fields where I live have got fencing around them now to prevent this, but it also prevent's people from playing football. Plus, when someone has an open cut and then they slide on the field where the dog has been Can get a nasty infection/injury. the problem is dogs using the parks as toilets! parks are for people/kids to play/walk in, not to dodge dog shit. and there is a trend now for dogowners to bag the shit and leave the bag hanging in the hedge. it's disgusting, let your dog shit at home in your garden before bringing it out The problem is indeed stupid people who don't clean up after their dogs. But lets be clear, the park is not just there for someone who wants to play football once or twice a week either. Banning dogs won't solve the problem because people who don't pick up won't care anyway. Fencing I could live with as long as there is a reasonable split of space based on frequency of visits to the park. Which should leave 97% of the park for the dog walkers, and the rest for those leisure pursuits which require less time.
SystonFox Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 I had no idea either. This guy is a massive c u n t who makes massively shitty music. Je deteste

Reynard Bleu Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 It would pay for dog wardens, care for abandon dogs and street cleaners to empty the dog shit bins and clean up all the dog shit left on pavement including those that put their dog's shit in a bag and then leave that on the pavement. There's lots of things I don't use that I pay tax to run them why should dog owners get a free ride. May be its the owners that should be licenced, the dog just does what it does through instinct or (lack of) training.

How are dog owners getting a free ride, they also pay taxes and no doubt don't use a lot of other services. I really don't believe that paying more would solve the problem. Councils would just move what they do now into a dedicated team and pocket the cash.

Ok maybe they don't get a free ride but something needs to be done. Dog owning has become sort of status symbol for many and if you could see the payments where I live where despite there being warnings (useless without wardens) and dog bins the place is awash with dog shit and used dog shit bags. There's also the problem of abandon dogs, if people had to pay a decent licence fee and have them electronically tagged it might off some of the impulse buyers and those that really cannot afford to keep them anyway.
Rincewind Posted 18 July 2012 Author Posted 18 July 2012 when the license runs out and the owner cannot afford to renew the dogs will go. A bit like teenagers when they leave school and still expect to be fed.

There should be a distinction though between fields for dogs and fields for Sports. Its not right a dog doing stuff all over a place where someone might slide etc... I wonder how many people let their dogs run around and do everything on their own garden, as well as/instead of on a public playing field?

And I think most dog owners let their dogs shit in the garden and then go and clean it up. Many of us are responsible people in the parks too. What about worm/fox/hedgehog/bird ..... shit on the football pitches is it okay to fall in that?

You can prevent other wild animals, but it doesn't make it right either.
Guest Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Owner's can read though. You can prevent other wild animals, but it doesn't make it right either. Owners who can read and ignore are not going to be changed unless we get all dogs registered and owners held responsible for their actions. Lots of dogs who foul on the pitch (did you see what I did there?) are off the lead, having been let out to get some exercise and do the necessary without the owners bothering.

I agree with all of this. In bold, this is something, in my initial post, I trying to make.
Finnegan Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Fosse Road is ****ing disgusting for dog shit. I'm not overly bothered by dog mess if your animal dumps in a bush or a ditch or something. But the middle of the pavement? Sort it out. My walk to work is literally just weaving around dog shit these days. Imagine being partially sighted. Euch.
Jon the Hat Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Everyone agrees on the problem, the point is the solution of licensing didn't work before and it won't work now.

We get it in sunny Western Park too, and if anything it's worse than Westcotes where I moved from last year, which I hadn't expected. I'm sure there was less around generally and now it's making a bit of a comeback, like we're trying to recreate the 70s all over again or something. Football hooligans! Industrial unrest! Ziggy Stardust! Glitter! Dogshit!
Guest Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Everyone agrees on the problem, the point is the solution of licensing didn't work before and it won't work now. Maybe it won't but it would certianly improve things. The new technology that is used makes it easier to pursue the owners. And if we can have on the spot fines for dropping ciggie butts we can have on the spot fines for not picking up your doggie droppings.
ADK Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 I don't see why dog owners shouldn't pay a small annual licence, its not exactly a right to own a dog and why should the rest of us have to pay for them?

Whilst I agree with paying for a licence I can't agree with your argument. Shouldn't parents therefore pay for having kids (not get money from the state for having them) It's not a right. Why should the rest of us have to pay for them?
Rincewind Posted 18 July 2012 Author Posted 18 July 2012 What about tax on food and clothes, the more people in the house the more it costs. In theory. I can find an argument to say it costs more for a single person though.

Raw Dykes Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 And if we can have on the spot fines for dropping ciggie butts we can have on the spot fines for not picking up your doggie droppings. Good point. Not sure what the punishment is for getting caught letting a dog shit on the street, but it should be far worse than dropping a dog end, for so many reasons. A fag end isn't going to make anyone slip over, it doesn't smell, really, it's a lot smaller, and tramps appreciate the free tobacco. Whereas, stepping in dogshit can fvck your day up.
Rincewind Posted 18 July 2012 Author Posted 18 July 2012 You can't compare owning a dog with raising a child. Not quite sure i understand this post. Tax was mentioned. for children Householders are already taxed with goods they buy
