Rincewind Posted 16 July 2012 Posted 16 July 2012 Watching One Show. Never realized Pit Bulls were banned. Knew the dangerous ones were but its shown them going up to people in the street and taking the dogs off them who are taken away and most likely put down. One bloke was told he could apeal and he said he would because the dog was a family pet. Not sure myself. I thought they would only be taken away if causing a nuisance or disturbance. But I don't own a dog or would have a Pit Bull. There are other breeds banned too. They said to make sure get dogsof reputable dealers and outlets.
davieG Posted 16 July 2012 Posted 16 July 2012 Dogs should require a licence whatever the breed really And an electronic tag. Ideally their DNA so we can tell whose dog has shit outside my front gate.
Rincewind Posted 16 July 2012 Author Posted 16 July 2012 Even though I don't like Pit Bulls I felt sorry for the owners of the ones they took away. One was just taking it for a walk with a muzzle on and the dog handlers went up and said they were taking it away to check on the breed. Although they went to a womans flat after a omplaint about hers biting and the dog was jumping all over the place in the room behind. She was still upset.
I am Rod Hull Posted 16 July 2012 Posted 16 July 2012 Dogs should require a licence whatever the breed really I have to disagree. You need a driving licence and insurance to drive a car but folk with ill fitting trousers that show their underpants seem not to give a fook. Taxing the majority because of the few is not the answer.

It would pay for dog wardens, care for abandon dogs and street cleaners to empty the dog shit bins and clean up all the dog shit left on pavement including those that put their dog's shit in a bag and then leave that on the pavement. There's lots of things I don't use that I pay tax to run them why should dog owners get a free ride.

Captain... Posted 16 July 2012 Posted 16 July 2012 Pitbulls are really ugly and very aggressive basically the Roy Keane's of the dog world why anyone would want to clean up the shit of a four legged Roy Keane is beyond me.
Saxondale Posted 16 July 2012 Posted 16 July 2012 They are the pikeys of the dog world - fvcking trouble.

Orkneyfox Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 The man who would appeal had a dog with longer legs, may have been sufficiently cross bred to get off with not being classed as a pit bull. Some of those other banned dogs looked horrible e.g. the Dogo Argentina. Why any one would want a dog bred for hunting puma is beyond me!
Fox92 Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 I hate dogs. Yes, I don't like them either. And most of the owner's p*ss me off as well... Hate it when they walk them on sports fields, winds me up
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 Even though I don't like Pit Bulls I felt sorry for the owners of the ones they took away. One was just taking it for a walk with a muzzle on and the dog handlers went up and said they were taking it away to check on the breed. I like most dogs, and pretty much all animals (besides parasites, bald cats, over-sized centipedes and humans) but why feel sorry for the owners? They know it's an illegal breed, and has been for years. It's similar to someone walking around the street with a pistol - even if they don't intend to harm anyone, it's illegal and officials have a duty to seize the offending item/animal. It's a shame if an animal is put down regardless of whether it has attacked or not, but the threat it poses isn't worth the overall risk - you wouldn't want someone walking a 10ft cobra around would you? I don't know why people buy this type of breed when you could have something like a labrador (most popular breed in the UK and several other countries) - virtually silent, highly unlikely to ever attack anyone, friendly to strangers. Unless you want to look "hard"...
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 I'm not a big fan of dogs, probably cos i've never had one. but what annoys me is the arrogance of most dog owners who seem to think everyone should love their dog, let the jump up, sniff your arse etc, and most of all their refusal to clean up dog shit. we have a bridal way in croft that leads over the fields. for the first few hundred yards its covered in dog shit. Why? just because its not a tarmac path doesn't mean you don't have to clear it up. spoils it for everyone else. similarly a few years ago the council opened up the old mineral railway line as a country walk, had a competition at the junior school to name it, called it 'whistle way', very endearing. Within a few weeks it was full of dog shit, stank like hell. never used it. all dogs should be licensed to pay for dog wardens to monotor areas like these and to impose huge fines on offenders. if you can't scoop the shit you can't have a dog. simple
Jon the Hat Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 Yes, I don't like them either. And most of the owner's p*ss me off as well... Hate it when they walk them on sports fields, winds me up Dog walkers hate the weekends when fair weather park users who are there once at week at most come out and whinge about those who are there twice a day rain or shine, as if they have some right to use a shared amenity exclusively.
anotherharboroughfox Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 The breed of dog has very little effect on the dogs behaviour, it's how they are brought up. Pit bulls are naturally energetic and huge, but it's usually people who want a dog for the wrong reason who get Pit bulls, shame really. I believe the main problem to be that Pit bulls require a lot of walking but there owners are too lazy to do the required amount.

Unless you want to look "hard"... I see what you mean, but I meant sorry in the sense that they may have had the dog since a puppy and looked after it right but as you say before getting the dog maybe they should check. A reputable would not sell Pit Bulls. I doubt if the RSPC would either. The owner would be told what dogs are legal. If I were to have a dog I would now check, even though I would research anyway as to which dog would fit in with my lifestyle. I would not have a Great Dane if I could not afford to feed

But it shouldn't be allowed, half of the fields where I live have got fencing around them now to prevent this, but it also prevent's people from playing football. Plus, when someone has an open cut and then they slide on the field where the dog has been Can get a nasty infection/injury.
