What’s the simplest way to sell a record collection? Looking to shift mine as I rarely bother playing them and the whole set up takes up a lot of space for something that doesn’t get used much. Discogs seems a bit of a faff so don’t fancy that

I'd guess it comes down to the quality of the collection - if you have anything valuable you'd be best selling those online/discogs.  if it's just an ordinary sort of collection and you just want rid of, i'm guessing you'd be best to sell it as a job lot to a record store?

I know it can take time but I would for every pressings you have on discos to see what it's worth individually.

Sell on discogs the most valuables, flog the rest to a record store

Selling on Facebook can be quite easy, there are several record selling groups

Be absolutely sure you wanna get rid. Once it's gone it's gone and you may find yourself regretting it. Maybe storing it could be an alternative?

Depending on the quality, you could either try your local record store or sell the collection as a bulk lot on eBay. Discogs is for some who is willing to deal with packaging individual titles forever, and dealing with a-hole customers.

I am slowly weeding through mine. I have 2,000+ titles, 99% jazz.. CDs have nominal value; I made inquiries with several local stores, who offered peanuts. Will sell the bulk cd lots on eBay (about 100 cds per lot). Vinyl could be more interesting, if you have original pressings in VG+ / M condition. If not, I wouldn't bother, and just sell to the first decent person who comes along.

The Mint/Very good condition is a major point to consider.

I used to subscribe to Record Collector magazine, (is that still published?) and they published a table of prices for Mint, Very good, good, ect records. I can't remember the exact details now but the drop off in value, depending on condition, was massive. For example, a mint copy of an album would fetch say, £500. The same album in very good condition would be around £80. Good £30, and so on.

Also, mint condition equated to unopened basically.

The old price guides are not considered as a benchmark any more. The real market prices are the Discogs "sold for" statistics, as they reflect how much people are willing to pay. Another  valuable resource is a site called Popsike. Again, I think if the person who asked the question doesn't have anything rare and wants to move the collection, the private "all in" sale on FB Marketplace, Crigslist, local classified or Ebay would probably be the most realistic way to dispose of the whole collection in one sweep.
