Guest Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 I've always wondered why the police have such a problem with swearing in england...being arrested for swearing...jeez...havent they got anything better to do. I'm sure that there are much worse offenses that they could be prosecuting but just like you won't progress to mathmatical differentiation without understanding basic whole numbers, swearing is an early step on the road to bigger evils. People push the boundaries until they are stopped, knowing that something as minor as swearing at a person is wrong may help them not to go much further. Respect.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 Surely arresting people for swearing at police is just a waste of time and money? They wouldn't be able to actually charge you with anything so they'd end up taking you down to the station, booking you in and then just letting you go a bit later on. I'd have thought they'd have better things to do. I suppose they could try to give you a caution for some kind of public disorder bullshit but if you chose not to accept it the CPS would never bother with taking the case. That is clearly nonsense but exactly the kind of 2+2 thinking that inspires so many ridiculous laws and policies in this country. Take this case for example..are you seriously saying that if this Tory bloke isn't arrested he will be out ram raiding jewellery shops next week? If a kid repeatedly swears at police then maybe they should be taken home to their parents to maybe shit them up a bit and hopefully to get a bit of disciplining at home. If an adult does it as a one off the police should just act like grown ups and accept that patience sometimes wears thin and tempers can occasionally flare in even the most straight laced and rational of us.
Steven Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 I think Police attitudes to the Public need to change first. As a Tory MP he is by definition a ****. This is two bald men scrabbling over a comb.

This "tory bloke" is a member of parliament who sets laws that other people have to follow. He should be following them himself. If one of his laws is that he should be arrested for swearing at a law officer then he should face the consequences. I wonder if he'd have threatened a very large male police officer with losing their job. I'm glad that you can see the potential deterrent for a "kid" and therefore surprised that you don't think an MP should also "shit up a bit" and hopefully get a bit of disciplining from his colleagues/superiors at work.
Daggers Posted 22 September 2012 Author Posted 22 September 2012 ...are you seriously saying that if this Tory bloke isn't arrested he will be out ram raiding jewellery shops next week? That is precisely the point the Tory conference were making as they all demanded a return to the old ways of locking everyone up for calling a copper a 'cvnt'. The Tory party who gave Johnson a standing ovation for his imbecilic speech where he said just that. The Tory party who are struggling so badly to demonstrate that the policy-making top isn't dominated by back-slapping, snout in trough, out-of-touch, rich, white, public school boys...mainly because is is dominated by back-slapping, snout in trough, out-of-touch, rich, white, public school boys.
FantasticMrFuchs Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 Who uses the word pleb nowadays anyway? And is it really classed as swearing?? It is no more offensive than Div, Muppet, Numpty ect.
Daggers Posted 22 September 2012 Author Posted 22 September 2012 Who uses the word pleb nowadays anyway? And is it really classed as swearing?? It is no more offensive than Div, Muppet, Numpty ect. Depending upon the public school you attend, yes 'pleb' is still very much in use. No it isn't swearing, that was in addition to using 'pleb'.
AoWW Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 I must admit I was wondering since when pleb had been considered swearing.
Bugg Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 The fact his nickname at public school was "Thrasher" is proof enough of how much of a cvnt he is.
Guest MattP Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 I've always wondered why the police have such a problem with swearing in england...being arrested for swearing...jeez...havent they got anything better to do. All about manners and respect. You shouldn't swear at people anyway unless you know they are comfortable with it, shows a complete lack of respect and class. A copper should be treated no different to the way you would talk to a random stranger in the street.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 More confusingly it initially seemed to be the use of the word Pleb (which isn't all that much of an insult really) that outraged everyone, not the abusive manner and swearing. Crazy. Next most confusingly was the, "how can he do this on such a bad week for the police?" It was a bad week for two families in Manchester and their immediate colleagues that knew them. I'm sure that police constables elsewhere were as shocked and angry as the general public, but I hardly feel that for the PC in question Mitchell's tirade disturbed his own private grieving. This angle was used merely to amplify any criticism his opponents wanted to direct at him, It was a flim-flam. And individual PCs can indeed be incredible annoying and act like complete dicks - however, this should be a zero-tolerence zone. When respect for the police is lost, respect for the law is lost - what little there is left of that! I'm not saying that we should always do as the police say regardless - the police are humans and as susceptible to corruption as the next person, but 99.99% of the time they're just trying to do their job - even if they make mistakes or don't do it as we would personally like. Just in general, be nice to other people who have done no real harm to you - and maybe even to those who have...

Fair to a degree but is the Labour Party any different? The only difference I can see is that you wonder how the hell their front benchers got into Oxbridge in the first place! Indicates an even higher amount of nepotism if you ask me because surely nobody believes Ed Balls and the like got in based on their academic ability. I think we can all agree that politics these days is far too much about playing to the gallery than it is about thinking through the implications of the sound bytes that come out of their mouths. Most speeches these days are predictable to the extent that given a line I can predict the next two almost to the letter. It's like they haven't moved on since et tu Brute and the rule of 3. All about manners and respect. You shouldn't swear at people anyway unless you know they are comfortable with it, shows a complete lack of respect and class. A copper should be treated no different to the way you would talk to a random stranger in the street Agreed. Meaning swearing at a copper shouldn't be an arrestable offence, just as swearing at you or I wouldn't be.

And in the alternative we have ..... Keith Vaz ! Well , at least he ain't white. In truth, whichever party they "represent" they're pretty much all the same.
The Doctor Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 What did he think he was? A suicide cyclist? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30tTDuzzYOM Anyway, by the sounds of things, the rozzer was being a bit of a **** but an incredibly stupid thing for Mitchell to do - particularly with his parties reputation for being out-of-touch toffs/jackasses.
1964FOX Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 A Tory MP who thinks everyone is beneath them unless they went to the right public school, are in th 'club' or from the right stock -I can't believe it.

Babylon Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 If he broke the law then the police can take action themselves. You don't need a sacking, you don't need a media lynch mob, or masses showing mock offence. Either arrest him / caution him or move on FFS.

That's the way everything has to be dealt with these day, didn't you know. One balls up for anyone remotely high profile, in any walk of life, you have to be sacked. Motty just said Ashley Cole jerked it over Begovic on MOTD, expect him to be gone by morning.

1964FOX Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 "politician" generally covers that Yes but the Tories excel at it.
FrankieADZ Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 I'm not surprised an MP has done this tbh, as some seem to think there gods gift. But still you'd expect better from them. Tho I have swore at a police woman a few times.......tho she is my sister and she wasn't on duty ::
