davieG Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 A 5-meter (16.4 feet) high version of Algerian artist Adel Abdessemed's bronze statue of Zinedine Zidane headbutting Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final has been erected outside Paris' Centre Pompidou, one of the world's foremost modern art museums. A smaller version of the statue had previously been on exhibition in a New York gallery, but now it is massive and out in the open for all to admire. http://sports.yahoo....13500--sow.html
Jace Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 That's cool I don't usually like the French much but I have great respect for Zidane, now all they need is a statue of Cantona karate kicking that Palace fan

Freeman's Wharfer Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Seems a strange moment to commemorate... There's no doubt that Zidane's career ended on a low, to encapsulate it in a statue doesn't make sense to me. So many other moments to depict.
StanSP Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Seems a strange moment to commemorate... There's no doubt that Zidane's career ended on a low, to encapsulate it in a statue doesn't make sense to me. So many other moments to depict. This one especially...(albeit for a Spanish team) http://youtu.be/xdy5fKdLvL8 Never knew a moment of violence and insanity (within reason?) would be so acclaimed to have a statue made of it.
21st Century Fox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 I don't think it's intended to glorify it, it's supposed to be the antithesis of why statues are made.
RedHux Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 In Marseille Zidane is indeed especially lauded for his headbutt and I half expected the thread to reveal that the statue would be there.
foxfanazer Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 Or Marco Materazzi clutching his nose. We could have Pearson nutting mills
purpleronnie Posted 28 September 2012 Posted 28 September 2012 Not sure why it should be glorified. Its france, violence is encouraged.
