Alexikokopops Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 Business systems, I'm an expert in a piece of software called movex, or m3, it is similar to SAP, but not as good although catching up. I am not a programmer more systems analyst, a mixture of analysis, interrogation, support, training, configuration, basic SQL and visual basic skills but nothing really technical. Ah ok. I do a lot of analysis type work, including SQL and SAS and stuff (which involves programming but for a statistcal end). It's ridiculous because, through contracting, I'd be doing the same type of thing I'm doing now but getting paid stupid amounts (£300-400 a day starting). There is absolutely no way I'm worth that kind of money but companies will pay it for a short term fix (I don't know about your line of work but it's usually 3 month contracts in this line, although I know people who have ended up working at the same place for three years on a contractor's wage). There are the disadvantages you mentioned though which is why I'm looking at it short term before escaping. This post isn't really pretentions or humblebragging. Probably more just a bit twattish.

I mostly do big project implementing movex in place of their existing erp system, it is normally done in conjunction with a reporting/statistical tool such as cognos or crystal reports, don't know if that is more your thing. Projects last anything from a few months to a few years, I know one guy was contracting at the same place for 7 years, staying in a hotel 4 nights a week commuting from Swansea to London every week. I normally go in do the project then get out look for the next one keeps me from getting bored and you learn lots of new things in each place. I've worked in tool companies, pens, gel coats and paints, welding and welding accessories, buggies, and now infection control. Market is good at the moment as it is a fixed cost that they can underwrite against a project rather than an employee that works out much costlier in the long run. Employees cost each company so much more than just the salary. You may not feel you are worth it but when you see how much companies save by contracting you instead of hiring you directly then you get over it pretty quick.
Guest Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 So your day rate is approx £400. Not bad, not bad at all. What kind of percentage of time have you been in a contract since you started doing it? I thought you had a decent job Moosebreath. When I work the private circuit - during my long "holidays" my daily rate is 1000 euros and that certainly isn't excessive (after all I have the FT job income as well).

Guest Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 What are you doing for 1000 euros per day? As little as possible.
Daggers Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 Being rude to the staff is very low class and completely unnecessary if you hire the right ones in the first place. The right ones know their place. Yussuh massah. I been gone finished doing the gardenings.
Daggers Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 I thought you had a decent job Moosebreath. ....must....resist....temptation.......

The People's Hero Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 Can one of you big earners chuck £50 my way?

FoxyPV Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 Money and BDSM on offer? This thread has picked up
flowwolf Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 Nice to see your paying attention, but I've not always been earning that amount, before that I was living in Spain, spent 2 years teaching English where I earnt probably about £15k in 2 years, then another year earning 1200 euros a month for 8 months, plus a few private classes, not a lot to live off, had to watch what I spent, before that I was on a decent wage, before that I was on fvck all, was unemployed for a while literally having to borrow money to survive. Not denying I'm paid well now, but I don't know if it will last, or whether it will all come crashing down, not going to spend lavishly now just because I can, I drive my parents old car and make sure I am putting enough away for a rainy day. Captain I think your missing it too ? Oh I get it now Doh !
flowwolf Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 I bloody hate wine tasters. One of the few things that really angers me. http://wine.about.co...winetasting.htm Just drink the fvking stuff. I don't describe my diet-pepsi to people every time I'm drinking it. Why not give us your considered opinion on a pint of Bleach.
flowwolf Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 I always let a good wine breathe for 15 mins before a steak. Nothing wrong with that. Far as I'm concerned it's part of the price you pay in a restaurant or part of the corkage fee. I too always let a good wine breath for at least 15 minutes after all it's more than I let the steak do.
Daggers Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 ah, so you prefer the cuddly bear look in your dominant male partners Dominant? You? Aw bless. Sweetums, lube up and bend the fvck over...it's not like it'll be the first time.
