Captain... Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 Really don't get this 'rivalry' between tigers and city, even if you don't like rugby as a sport anybody from Leicester should feel a bit of pride that we have one of the biggest and best rugby clubs in the world. Lets be honest there is not a huge amount to be proud of with Leicester, and it is nice when you meet people and talk about Leicester to be able to say that. Anybody who has any interest in rugby has heard of Leicester. Lets be honest the football club has given up very little to be proud of in the last 10 years the city centre has very little of note.
absolutelegend Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 I like the Tigers to do well. Like you say, I pretty much support all things Leicestershire.
promised land Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 Lets be honest there is not a huge amount to be proud of with Leicester, and it is nice when you meet people and talk about Leicester to be able to say that. Anybody who has any interest in rugby has heard of Leicester. Leicester as a city? Lots of things to be proud of. Engelbert, Showaddywaddy, Mark Morrison, That page 3 bird of the 90's, DNA discovered here, Dick the third, Adrian Mole, Thomas Cook, the list is endless. My observation of Tigers fans is, it is a much more family environment and near enough everyone wears the colours and usually a shirt. Nothing against them at all each to their own, but do they follow us as well or are Tigers fans purely rugby supporters? You don't see many green, white and red shirts at the KP. Up at the speedway you do see City blue about, not sure at Welford Road as I don't go.

promised land Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 You do when they borrow our stadium for european matches and prob when we host the rugger world cup That was a bizarre one, KP up for a World Cup ground and not Welford Road, they were going to rebuild the other sides so I was told.
PAULCFC Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 My mrs had been a season ticket holder at the tigers for about 15 years until this season. If you have Sky Sports and ESPN at home then 99% of the games are on either of them........so i just call her a plastic .But to be fair if every game we played was on tv i'd probably save the money and do the same....but never gonna happen with us even when we make the premier league.

All Premier league games are shown on football first with the beautiful Sarah Jane Mee but not live as I guess that is what you are implying. I didn't realise so many Tigers games were shown.

Sort of agree but it gets tiresome being called a Rugby City or people mentioning them instead of us. They're still very much the second sport in the City, regardless of their success. I don't really care how good the Tigers are but if you put a gun to my head I'd rather they did well than didn't.
PAULCFC Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 Yes pretty much every Tigers (home and away) are on either sky or espn,i know we get pissed off when our games are moved, but i think rugby have sold themselves more to the tv than we have.To be fair it still lets the mrs pic and chose her matches, she still went to the Bath game last weekend,But as some one mentioned above the Tigers are like the Manu of Rugby and don't play as many matches as in football.
Out Foxed Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 i dislike the fact rugger buggers can wear a tigers shirt in any pub but you'd be told to do one in a city shirt.

It's better than being met with a blank stare, it's not Tigers' fault they are more successful than City.
PAULCFC Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 It's better than being met with a blank stare, it's not Tigers' fault they are more successful than City. I get that every day...
Criggers Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 At Welford Road you can pay £20 to stand on the terrace with a pint in your hand and another one waiting. Or if you prefer, go on the very back row of the Cat stand and there is a handy little ledge behind the seats to line up the pints on. Tickets are more expensive in the cat stand I think around the £35 mark but isn't that the same as the east/west stand at the KP? I know to get a ticket with my Dad (at KP I should add) on the front row of the west stand (he's ST holder on the disabled) is £34.50 for regular games. Which is ludicrous given the shite view and the fact you can get rained on. The £30-£40 tickets at Tigers I thought were platinum, you could get silver for £25 last season which is what I paid for the semi final. Not sure this season I've only been once and went standing as it was a warm sunny day and the beer was flowing

You raise valid points but truth be told I've always been a bit put off by their fans' attitudes towards LCFC.
Guesty Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 You raise valid points but truth be told I've always been a bit put off by their fans' attitudes towards LCFC. Our fans arn't really any better. But in truth it's a minority on both sides. I'm proud of both teams and I think alot of other people are.
Voll Blau Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 "Hi there, I'm so and so and I love Tigers, Leicestershire CCC and Man U/Liverpool/Arsenal." Hate these kinds of people, not the team. I was born and brought up in Leicestershire, hence want all our teams to do well. Some of the Tigers fans annoy me absolutely no end though. They only have local pride when it suits. Exactly, at cricket you can even take your own alcohol in (with certain measures to what you can and how much you can take in) Banned completely at Grace Road last time I went.
Kitchandro Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 It's better than being met with a blank stare, it's not Tigers' fault they are more successful than City. I think we are met with a blank stare anyway though. It's only generally people in Britain who will know Leicester, and they've heard of it regardless of the Rugby. And I don't really want them saying 'oh you're from Leicester, are you a tigers fan?' etc.

It's only generally people in Britain who will know Leicester, and they've heard of it regardless of the Rugby. And I don't really want them saying 'oh you're from Leicester, are you a tigers fan?' etc. Do quite a bit of travelling, meet lots of foreign sorts, some have never heard of rugby, some have, but even those that don't know anything about Rugby, it still sounds a lot better to say we have the most successful Rugby team in Europe if not the world, than to say we have the football team that has lost the most FA cup finals without a success, oh and the former fattest man in England, and we built a car park over the remains of the King. Of course I waffle on about Leicester, and when I was teaching English in Spain I would bring in match reports for them to read, and stick the championship table up on the wall and highlight Leicester's position. The truth is though that Tiger's success reflects on us and vice versa. Although I normally have to pronounce it Lie-se-stair for them to even twig which city I mean.
absolutelegend Posted 5 December 2012 Posted 5 December 2012 Spoken to loads of people on my travels; not once have Tigers cropped up in conversation, but City do time and time again. Fact is Rugby is still a minority sport both in the UK and even more so in the rest of the world.
My Nads Posted 5 December 2012 Posted 5 December 2012 I'm surpised anyone goes to watch rugby it's complete shit.

Captain... Posted 5 December 2012 Posted 5 December 2012 No it wasn't The only thing I can find is that the technique for DNA testing, "genetic fingeprinting" was discovered in Leicester: http://www2.le.ac.uk/study/why-us/discoveries/the-invention-of-dna-fingerprinting

1964FOX Posted 5 December 2012 Posted 5 December 2012 Banned completely at Grace Road last time I went. Oddly enough me and five mates were reprimanded when we went. We were singing and using one of the structures in a drum like fashion to make noise. Steward came over and told us to stop. We were just about to go mad for him having a go at us making a bit of atmosphere when he explained we were making the Sky TV camera shake and the telly pictures were wobbling.
