City Cheaper Than Tigers

This weekend both City and Tigers are playing at home. Last week I got a call from my mum saying that one of my nieces had got a special school rate on the tickets for the Tigers of £20. There were a few extras thrown in (something about a free milkshake believe it or not) but the real thing is - it's a nothing game against Treviso. I say nothing; they really need to get all the bonus points to stand a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of Europe, but seriously, they should do it with ease (a bit like City will against Burton  )

Whilst it would have been nice to go and watch a game of rugby with my family, City's game this weekend is a Fans Fixture and I could only afford to go to one, plus there's more hanging on it - not much granted, it's not vital, but it all part of the promotion masterplan. Also, as far as I know, no milkshakes.

Back in my teens and early twenties, I used to regularly go to the Tigers simply because it was £5 a throw and decent entertainment for that amount. Then they all turned professional, prices went up on a scale that didn't equal the quality of the entertainment, I went to a few of their family night B team matches and then even that dried up.

Whilst prices at City have increased, they have by no means compared with the eggchasers.

Basically, I'm posting this for all the people who complain and moan about the ticket prices (me?) that things could be worse. That Tigers have overtaken City in price just beggers belief.

Maybe you'd rather see City play Santander in the europa cup than Tigers play Bath in the Aviva?

I'm sure if it's been Toulouse you'd have jumped at it.

The Tigers play European standard rugby.

This. You're essentially talking about a champions league fixture, albeit one against the Cluj of the rugby world.

And Tigers are the United of rugby. Like or loathe the sport, they're massive and the demand justifies the value. More people will see Treviso than Burton.

We'll be lucky to get half.

I was surprised it was as much as £30 to see Tigers play at London Welsh (kassam stadium, Oxford) earlier this season - and it wasn't just higher because it wasTigers playing.

Big difference was that there's no segregration of fans and - for those who like a beer watching games - alcohol was allowed into the seating area during the game!

So it should be. We're playing Barnsley in a second division league game and their playing in Europe's biggest club competition.

I wouldn't like to think how much more expensive we'd be if we were both playing in our respective top European competitions.

Yeah, but essentially it's a nothing match against poor opposition. The gulf between Tigers and Treviso is greater than City and Barnsley - in fairness, I wouldn't call the difference between City and Barnsley a gulf at all. They've been arguably more successful than us in recent years.

What because they made the semi-final of an FA Cup?

Granted we had a league one tour, while they have milled around in the Championship for a while.

Tigers ticket prices have gone up hugely when I got my 1st season ticket at City it cost £200 my aunty who was a tigers season ticket holder paid just £48!!

It could cost 1p to go and watch the Tigers and I wouldn't go.

It is a poor spectator sport with a poor atmosphere. I have no interest in it at all. Are they the biggest club in the world? It makes no difference to me, they don't play football.

I have no problem with people that like the rugby. I feel no rivalry towards them like some of their fans seem to feel towards City.

The football is ridiculously expensive, added to the fact I have a 120 mile round trip to fund and drive to get there.

But I still do it.

This is one of the reason's the prices go up - because people are apathetic and just focus on the worst all the time, continue to pay the worst and then ignore how much of a joke they are when someone else outdoes the price.

What Tigers fans pay has absolutely no bearing on my opinion of our prices. Leicester City's pricing is atrocious and it's no wonder we're averaging one of our worst excluding the League One season, despite the fact this is the best home form we've had in my lifetime.

Both deserve lambasting, not just Tigers because theirs are worse (for one game only may I add).

Barnsley successful. lol

Barnsley have been a bottom half Championship club for about 6 seasons. They're nobody.

Which is harsh as I don't actually mind them, but it's true.

On both occasions i've been to Leciester i've made sure i've gone to a couple of Tigers games, mainly due to the entertainment. The entertainment is completly different to City, atmosphere was good and it was great standing virtually on the pitch watching a very high standard of rugby.

Umm.... how many games have you been to?

I have been to some right humdingers at Welford rd. Loved them too. great atmospheres... and i have been to some boring ones too.

Similar to my experiences at KP.

Im a little bit suprised you consider the KP to have a good atmosphere....

I have no idea why people say this with surprise, football is the only sport you can't do this at.

I had a conversation with Tigers STH the other day, comparing prices. Obviously, their's are significantly cheaper.

It only occurred to me later in the day that a Tigers STH gets you 11 games(?) whereas a City one gets you 23. So the City actually is cheaper pro rata.

Shove that up your cummerbunds, you middle class twats!

You get more than 11. After the league stage of the Premiership it turns into a knockout cup for the best teams. You've got European games which I think are included in the ST and LV=Cup games. I'd imagine it works out to something like 25-30. Just varies on how well they do in the cups.

Plus you get offers and priority for England games as well.

I went to see Tigers vs. Ospreys a few weeks ago - was the first time I had been in a few years. A few observations:

  1. 3 average priced tickets cost me > £100 - thought this was excessive.
  2. Atmosphere was very poor, I think there were 2 "ta ta ta da da, ta da da da, Tigers!" hand claps all match and that was it.
  3. The make up of the crowd was weird - it didn't reflect the City / County Iive in at all. Majority were older, maybe accompanied by young grandchildren, and virtually all were 99.999% were white middle class. Just came a shock when in the middle of possibly the most multicultural city in Britain.

I'm sticking to the footy.

Just checked, £103.50 for 3 "seats" in a wooden stand sitting on a wooden bench. I could have paid nearly £40 per ticket too.

The beer was good though which made up for everything else.
