DLRG12 Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 Hi lads, Big fan of your forums - congratulations to all involved. My name is Robert Gorman and I am the deputy editor of www.NononsenseFootball.com Your club's section on our website requires its Ultimate Legend! We are asking all posters on these forums to vote for your club's Ultimate Legend. The vote will occur right here over the next seven days when we will collate the findings and add the name of your official ultimate club legend to our website. All the contributors to these forums have to do is post the name of the person they feel is the club's biggest legend in its entire history in this thread. The ultimate legend will be a player or manager who has represented the club at any stage throughout its existence. I am very grateful for your cooperation to this project as we search for your club icon that will be listed forever on our new website on your club's homepage. Please enter the name of the person you feel deserves the title as your club's "Ultimate Legend" below. Many thanks, Robert
Uncle Monty Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 Hard to quantify really. Someone who embodies the Leceister spirit would probably be Steve Walsh but then there's Lineker, Shilton, Banks, Heskey, Elliot, Izzet et al.
ithuriel Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 Jobbers not a legend, he is free advertising space waiting to happen , hope he has a sense of humour
mrmanns84 Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 Steve Walsh....not good on history but he was here for years 14 years I think. Captain and scored important goals. That for me makes him stand out from izzet banks and shilton!
Captain... Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 In my life time Walsh, (with Heskey in second). Only 4 people have played more games for the club: And Walshy still shows his passion for the club, any contenders would really have to come from this list: Graham Cross 599 Adam Black 557 Hugh Adcock 460 Mark Wallington 460 Steve Walsh 450 Arthur Chandler 419 John Sjoberg 413 Mal Griffiths 409 Steve Whitworth 400 Of them the only other one I really know much about is Arthur Chandler who is our record goalscorer with 273.

I was wondering how long it would take for Chandler to get a mention, My grandfather used to always be talking about him from what I remember... Walsh was more my generation, and what a genius he was
darko2k7 Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 Might make it easier if a mod could add a poll on top of the OP
Captain... Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 I was wondering how long it would take for Chandler to get a mention, My grandfather used to always be talking about him from what I remember... Walsh was more my generation, and what a genius he was Walsh should be hands down winner on here, but as a club we don't really tend to celebrate our past that much. I should really know more about players like Graham Cross, I know he played during our successful period in the 60s and 70s and was part of the 64 Cup winning side and in the other 3 cup finals, of that era, just found out on Wiki he also played for LCCC and Won the Benson and Hedges cup with them in 1975. That is Legendary, what I don't really know is if he was actually any good as a player, someone like Walsh single handedly won games for us and inspired us to greatness as a defender, striker and captain. Which is why it would be difficult for someone like me to vote for Cross or Chandler as legends as I only have the stats to go on.
davieG Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 These things are pretty much a waste of time or at best should be seen as fun because there's no way they can truly reflect the history of LCFC and it's players. It's going to be poll so you can guarantee it'll be someone from the recent past. You can't really expect people to vote for the likes of Rowley, Chandler, Adcock or even Banks because so many never saw them play. you can only really include them if people are to vote on reputation in which case you might just as well decide what criteria makes someone legend and look at the stats. While you've got those running the club calling Jobber an LCFC legend then how can anyone take any poll seriously.
Captain... Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 Might make it easier if a mod could add a poll on top of the OP But then how can people show everyone how funny they are by nominating Barry Hayles, Richie Wellens or Junior Lewis...

Graham Cross was a great player and could easily match Walsh in the legendary stakes he was part of the Matt Gillies football revolution along with McLintock which changed the way football was played, unfortunately he blotted his reputation by fiddling the Post office out of ££££££s after he retired.

If you are my age it has to be Walsh, Izzet, Lennon or Heskey really. Personally always like Muzzy most.

Naughty boy, no mention of that on Wikipedia, he really is a jack of all trades, Footballer, Cricketer, thief. Who would you nominate DavieG?
davieG Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 Naughty boy, no mention of that on Wikipedia, he really is a jack of all trades, Footballer, Cricketer, thief. Who would you nominate DavieG? Banks if he hadn't already been adopted as Stoke City's own. My personal favourite is obviously Davie Gibson, but you can't ignore the claims of those players you mentioned but that could only be based on the stats who knows how they interacted with the fans and when they did it was different then. Players would travel to games on the bus with the fans, drink in the local pubs and trained on the Filbert St Car Park. Many of them worked in the local industries whilst playing - a completely different world, now you can reach legendary status by scoring a few goals and doing an 'interesting' goal celebration. On that basis you cant ignore the Derek 'The Doog' Dougan only with us for 1.5 seasons but scored 41 goals in 76 games massive character, great laugh, showman and bags of skill - a real crowd pleaser that makes today's players seem like miserable gits.

Can't really imagine that happening today, which is a shame. How about Birch as a legend, played for the club for 7 years, but also for his role as club ambassador and charity work, seems to genuinely love the club.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 OP says player or manager so it's O'niell hands down
