Leicester City’s Chief Executive Officer Susan Whelan has received a prestigious industry accolade from one of Ireland’s leading publications for women.

Dublin-born Susan, also a Board Director of King Power International, was named winner of the IMAGE Businesswoman of the Year Award at a ceremony in The Hibernian Club, Stephens Green’s, Dublin 2.

Susan was appointed to the Leicester City Board as the owner’s representative when King Power completed its takeover of the Club in 2010. In July 2011 she was appointed CEO and has executive responsibility for all aspects of the Club’s day-to-day management.

In addition to being awarded the overall title of Image Businesswoman of the Year, Susan also won the IMAGE Overseas Irish Businesswoman award.

Richard Power, MD of IMAGE publications, said, “Not only is Susan a fantastic winner and representative of IMAGE Magazine, she proudly represents Ireland in a global capacity.”

Susan Whelan said: “It is a privilege to be the recipient of such prestigious awards and my thanks go to IMAGE Publications, Enterprise Ireland and RTE.

“To be recognised by three organisations who champion and support the achievements of women in business is a great honour and I am extremely proud to receive these awards.”

The IMAGE Businesswoman Awards are sponsored by Enterprise Ireland and RTE Radio 1.

According to Julie Sinnamon, Enterprise Ireland Director for global business development: “Enterprise Ireland wants to encourage and assist many more women to start their own high-potential companies that can win business abroad and create jobs at home. The award recipients are all exemplary in their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to business excellence. Female entrepreneurship is a vitally important element of the business landscape and these awards will help put the spotlight on the contribution of female entrepreneurship in Ireland.”

How did this happen to football?

Think they have seen the Membership scheme that she oversaw at some level?

Unless you're party to the financial state of the 'company' you wont know how good or bad she is, success is not based solely on the number of customers more on the profit margins.

So if she's improved them significantly she probably has earn't the award and would therefore not be irrelevant to the 'business'

After all the award is Businesswoman of the year not football manager.

From an external point of view I can't think of a positive thing to say about her.

But yes we'll never know what she's done, and in all honestly neither would the organisation who has proposed this award.

Neither can I from a fan's perspective but the owners must have lot of faith in her abilities as she's been involved with them for some considerable time and you don't get made CEO with the financial responsibilities she must have unless you're more than half decent.

Very fair point, though I hope the owners realise the differences in the commercial side of retail and football. It's chalk and cheese.

Well provided they don't get sack itchy and leave Pearson to get on with the job we should be ok, even then it won't be her interfering with the football side it's be the owners.

I'm lost.

The club makes a loss and is propped up by loans from the owners.

If the owners pulled the plug we'd be on the brink of liquidation.

That's hardly business genius.

Apparently her greatest achievement was winning 'Fern Britten look-a-like of the Year' in 2010 and 2011.

Who came 2nd? Diane Abbott?

My post was deleted

We had to delete the last topic relating to her due to similar comments after the club complained.

Perhaps she got the award for keeping us afloat in difficult circumstances. The award is probably a silver bucket to assist with the bailing.

Fair enough. They need to lighten up!

trouble is this type of posting has a habit of deteriorating to an unacceptable level which is what happened last time.

I work in marketing and pretty much every single marketing agency has some kind of award. I've no idea if this is similar, but you get nominations for an award by paying the company dishing out the award.

Don't mention buckets.
