marbelladave Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 Then what is Morgan? A smashing defender but not a talker and organiser. A bit harsh on a defence that has conceded the fewest goals in the league... True enough, our defence is basically good but it is clear to me that there is a lack of organisation at the center. We do not dominate our own box as well as we should, Schmeichel does not do it and there is often a slight hint of panic whenever the ball runs loose. Bear in mind that I was responding to a post suggesting that we need another central defender, if we are going to spend money on one then my suggestion of an organiser stands.
Dan Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 I still think he'd be a solid addition but Matty James' recent form is like a new signing in itself, I'd still be happy should we sign Trotter but I'll be far less disappointed if we don't than I would've been 3 weeks ago when we were first linked.
okie fox Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 A smashing defender but not a talker and organiser. You must have good ears to pick out what Morgan is saying during the game!
Harry - LCFC Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 dont think we will get him tbh. And yes I agree, after heavy speculation on this it's gone off the boil a bit. I'm still hopeful but I don't think it's very likely.
marbelladave Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 You must have good ears to pick out what Morgan is saying during the game! Very good...... But most games at the KPL you can hear anything above a whisper said on the pitch.....
Babylon Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 Very good...... But most games at the KPL you can hear anything above a whisper said on the pitch..... Yep... I hear him say "another clean sheet lads well done".
ian the fox Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 the meanest but quietest defence in the league , ffs
Grewks Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 the meanest but quietest defence in the league , ffs I wonder if anyone has thought that they are so quiet because they are so organised?? Look at bristol on saturday, shouting at each other after every goal, simply because of poor play and lack of organisation. Wes doesn't have to say anything because everyone is doing their job. You will always concede goals in football no matter how organised/strong your defence is, and ours is the best in the league.
Grewks Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 We will never be able to get Keane permanently, let alone for a few million. I'd imagine we'll be allowed to keep him til the end of the season, and then who's to say we wouldn't be able to get him back on loan next year if we go up. So True, His distribution for a center back of his age is top notch. He hasn't put a foot wrong at all yet, and I am sure in a few years to come after ferdinand and vidic, he will be partnering Johnny Evans. He looks a real class prospect.

Grewks Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 What about Jones and Smalling? Jones plays a midfield role at united, and smalling will play right back.

Grewks Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 Ok Fergie You don't have to be a united fan to see them play. Jones always plays the midfield role, and smalling will be used at right back. Fergie rates Keane highly and played him center back and moved smalling to right-back against chelsea in the cup, whilst jones played in midfield.

Fergie plays Jones all over the shop Smalling is used as a centre back and a right back. They have Rafael as a right back too. Stop trying to make out that you can see into the future
It's A Knockeart! Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 I predict Manchester United will play NONE of them in five years after signing AnotherCentre Back, the Norwegian starlet.
Brauny Fox Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 So....................no news on Trotter then!?
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 So....................no news on Trotter then!? You'll be looking in the twitter threads for tweets next ;-)
ealingfox Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 As has been said before, the advent of Matt James is like a new signing, so I wouldn't be surprised if our interest had cooled here, especially with the 2m asking price. Can see us coming back in for him if someone gets injured, or just try again at a potentially lower price at the end of the window.
marbelladave Posted 15 January 2013 Posted 15 January 2013 Yep... I hear him say "another clean sheet lads well done". Amazing what a string of 4 wins against poor opposition does for the memory...... Perhaps you would like to tell me what he said at the end of the games against Cardiff or Millwall or Barnsley or Leeds or Watford.......

Perhaps you would like to tell me what he said at the end of the games against Cardiff or Millwall or Barnsley or Leeds or Watford....... Probably " never mind you can't win em all. Just don't read the Internet because some moaner will slate us all even though 99% of the time there is no problem". You do realise every team will conceed don't you, I agree we aren't vocal at the back but to be highlighting it as some kind of serious problem when we are clearly the best defensive unit in the league is just ridiculous.

For the record, I was responding to a post that said we needed another central defender, perhaps Keane. I responded with the view that, were we to spend money on such a player I thought that someone to organise the defence would be my choice as good as our defence has been, it does not have a natural organiser. At no point did I say there was anything 'seriously wrong' with our defence but I did point out that we were not that good at commanding our own box, and that a talker/organiser was what was needed. It was a serious response to a serious post, your response was trivial, I should have let it go......

If you are having to organise players in the middle of a game....they haven't listened.
Xen Posted 16 January 2013 Posted 16 January 2013 Pearson is the natural organiser, he tells em what to do pre-game and they listen. If you are having to organise players in the middle of a game....they haven't listened. To be fair, I think he meant a player among the defence who can act as a captain (*cough* Wes) and direct the others from within their own ranks, to cover for any gaps in the defence and to press forward when appropriate. That said, we have the best defence in the league, conceding less than a goal a game and (correct me if I'm wrong) but we've not once let in more than two goals in a match. Clearly, a 'natural organiser' is either already in the squad and playing regularly, or our current crop of players (including Keane) have a good enough understanding of each other that organisation is instinctive and doesn't need to be vocal.. If there are ever any problems with defenders not talking to each other anyway, Pearson'll sort it out and fire them up, and if not Pearson, then Kasper can kick them into gear...

If there are ever any problems with defenders not talking to each other anyway, Pearson'll sort it out and fire them up, and if not Pearson, then Kasper can kick them into gear... Generally speaking we have a good defence because we defend from the front as a team, the weakest aspect is our command of our own penalty area. This is the responsibility of our keeper and center backs and they are not getting it done, we have lost goals (and points) because of this, the evidence is there to be seen, Kasper is not decisive enough and has given goals away by missing or flapping at crosses, Morgan defends his zone and does not take responsibility for Bellamy and we defend poorly from corners. Sure I am being tough on what is still the best defence in the league and of course individual players do make mistakes, they are human after all, but we have not been torn apart by fine attacking play, we have been undone by our own indecisive play in our own box. This to me is primarily an organisational issue, hence my suggestion that we need a talker/organiser.....
