Played for the first time in a while last weekend. Game always becomes inconsistent (more inconsistent) after about 13/14 holes due to bad shoulders. Shot 89 but had a great spell of +2 over 6 holes.

Anyway, has anyone been fitted for irons? I’m 6’3 and constantly feel like I’m reaching down playing every iron shot.

Obviously it would be ideal to be fitted up properly, but the wait really puts me off. Would off the shelf +.5 do the trick?

Any advice welcome as I’m a complete novice compared to some of you guys.

I was fitted at my club within the week when I last ordered some irons. Length is, generally, easy to figure out as it's based off you're height. It's the lie angle etc you'd want to get fitted for depending on your posture. I'm a similar height to you and have +0.5" but also 2 degree lie angle. Ring around a few pro shops as they all seem to price match club sets if you find it cheaper somewhere elsem

Didn’t work .

USA look like taking a 5-0 lead already.

Yep, contest pretty much over after Day 1

Unless the International team win one of these soon, people will lose interest.

Even US golf fans are bored of winning it every time.

Just gonna lay all the blame on Weir for using all his captain's picks on a buncha canuckleheads!

Game on today. Could be a total reverse of yesterday.

I don't know how I feel about the format. Strange that there's only 5 games a day for the first 2 days, then it goes more like the Ryder Cup over the weekend.

Bloody hell! Incredible effort from the INT team today.

No-one saw that coming. Game on.

Typical that Bradley gets the winning point.

Shame it wasn't closer - as always.

And aim point can get in the bin. Awful invention.

I've gone full on Bryson with my woods.

Driver, 3 wood and 5 wood all at 42.25 inches. Working wonderfully at the range.

Beautiful Morikawa style baby fade with the driver, but still long.

True test comes on the course tomorrow and it'll probably all go to shit lol

The biggest advantage is that my clubs now fit in the boot of the car

Did you get this done at somewhere in Leicester? I've always flirted with the idea.

Easy enough to trim the butt end with a small cheap pipe cutter and then re-grip them yourself....... If that's what he's done.

Are the heads all the same brand as well as adjustable Tom? I. E. Have the same hosel adapter? If so you can now interchange shafts to experiment even more (assuming they are different weight).

42.25 is around 3W length IIRC correct?

I cut the shafts myself and my local shop regrips at no extra charge it you buy the grips from them.

They're all TaylorMade, but only the driver has the adjustable head, I was toying with the idea of buying a 5 wood shaft to put in it, but just cut mine down as I've got a spare driver shaft if it all went wrong!

It's 5 wood length, so I'm hitting much straighter and not losing too much distance.

I play a very tight course, so I'm giving myself more of a chance by keeping the ball in play off the tee.

Off to Edinburgh in November, just booked a round at Gullane no. 2. Played it several years ago, loved the experience…and only costing £50, which is what I’d pay for an average public course over here.

Don’t mind the weather…couldn’t imagine visiting Scotland without doing something golf-related, no matter the season.

Fellow ‘golfers’…

Yesterday, I went for a fitting - and the store ‘luckily’ had some in that fitted me. However I’m sceptical whether they have just forced some clubs onto me that are just about suitable.

Ping G425 irons, +1’’, 3 degree upright (white dot) with midsize grips.

From Pings fitting chart, I probably needed +.5 and 2 degree upright but borderline to what I was sold also.

Was hitting the 7iron 170-180 (carry) and straight… although didn’t try any of the other clubs bar the PW which I think carried around 130-135. Club speed on the 7 was around 90mph.

Now after years of falling in and out of love with golf due to never been fitted, I’m not sure whether these ones just suit me better rather than being exactly what I needed.

I’m 6’3 and was right on the cusp between Blue and White dot lie angle.

The shop was an independent one and was just wondering if you guys could advise on whether it’s worth going to the local Ping store or AG for another fitting and be adjusted as necessary.

Haven’t taken them to the range or course yet.

160 yards straight sounds like they suited you fairly well. But, I'd suggest trying them on the course to see if you get the same results. If not take them back to the shop you got them from and ask if you can adjust them to better suit. Whether that be lie angle or whatever.

Cheers, yeah it did seem like they were okay but it wasn’t really a true test. 7 iron being an easier club to hit with decent figures also didn’t really give me full confidence in what I was seeing/doing.

It was the lie angle that made me wonder whether I’d not be getting the full value of my shots (distance) but I understand it’s much more technical than that… appreciate the advice!

Lie angle won't affect distance much if at all. It affects how the club face is delivered compared to target. Mainly the starting direction left or right. Upright will start more left, flat will start more right.

Got really excited at an email saying I’ve been selected through the random selection ballot to purchase up to 4 tickets for next years Ryder Cup in New York.

Didn't realise the robbing fvckers were charging over $700 for a day ticket.

No wonder Golf is dying a death for the average fan whether trying to attend or play given the costs

But you get a free chicken burger and unlimited coke refills for that :D

It's a fvckin joke though. I reckon they're trying to put off the local NYC riff raff through fear of agro, but it'll still sell out with corporates buying them.

The state of professional golf as a whole is in a right mess with this potential merger and this winter TGL indoor simulation league looks pony.
