+1 for Scottsdale golf here.

I went up to their place near Warrington a couple of years ago for some irons, with the same day build. This was before they had opened their Birmingham facility.

Can't fault the fitting process there, the fitter was knowledgeable, and wasn't biased or pushy towards any brands in particular. They seemed to have a decent selection of shafts to choose from at no extra cost and the fitter wasn't pushy about trying to upsell me, although I did say at the outset I wasn't interested in spending a load extra on the fancy shaft options.

Did it with a pretty open mind, although did have an idea as to what sort of profile iron I was interested in, so had a hit of nearly all the brands and walked away with a set of Mizunos.

As other have said, you don't get the fitting fee off the clubs, but you do walk away with them the same day. I did my fitting during that post covid period where people were waiting months and months for clubs so decided to pay a bit extra to make sure I got them on the same day. Pretty sure I booked the fitting this time of year and got 50% off the price in some sort of Black Friday deal.

Itching to go back for a shiny new driver, but to be honest I have the 2017 M2 and the thing's an absolute rocket!

Cheers for your input

To make it clear, I have nothing against Rich at all. He’s transferred my game, I’d like to give him my money for new clubs, but feel like I’d be limited- plus I don’t want a new driver- (another club to master)

As a golf pro though? Class. Worth the ££

Of course, I understand your point of view.

My point was more about your comment about limitations that you would experience at Coalville by brand which I said you'd also get if you went to a TM/Titleist fitter, rather than anything against an individual.

Yeah you’re right. I think if I was going to choose a brand though it would be TM

Just looking at reviews on Rick Shiels’ HIT channel on the new Pings as Coalville specialise in those too

Forest Hill are in the mud again.

Sent an email out today asking for investors willing to put in £5k minimum (no maximum) assuring each investor a 12% return paid back within 12months, preferably to be investing as soon 1st Dec.

They’re unable to get a bank loan it seems and blame Covid for its issues.

This is whilst spending £2m on a driving range, a dining hall and crazy golf.

They have a loan/mortgage of £6m and have £6k in the bank. If I was to come along and offer them £0.5m then I’d be expecting £60k interest within 12 months. How they paying that back when they’ve got £6k in the kitty?

Makes me wonder if Aiyawatt has anything to do with the club 😂

I feel sorry for the remaining members there, who had their fees upped to match far superior places like Longcliffe or Rothley with absolutely nowhere near the standard of those two mentioned.

I feel nothing but derision for the owners who’ve let this place absolutely crumble.

They’ve also just spent a fortune on a new simulator room. Baffling.

Played there the other month and the greens were shocking, found out in the bar afterwards that they’ve had irrigation issues for ages now.

Well that was their most recent (early summer) request for investors. Emergency repairs to their irrigation system.

Longcliffe on the other hand are spending £600k as we speak on a completely new irrigation system. Obviously they have asked for investors for this due to the huge cost. But we’re a well run club, with the sole priority being the course itself.

Didn’t know about this simulator

I think they just moved the kit from the end of the driving range into the clubhouse. Either way, seem to be pissing money in the wrong stuff.

Just remembered what happened yesterday-

Been a member at my course coming up to 5 years now

It was only yesterday morning did I realise that the golf balls they put on a little outdoor table by the pro shop are NOT balls that golfers have found on the course but don’t want to use themselves

I saw some on the table yesterday whilst checking the winter handicap table.

Saw a Srixon AD333 which is what I’m using. So I took it thinking how weird it was someone wouldn’t want to use it.

Marked it up with my initials, put it in my trolley

It was only a few minutes later waiting around the first tee that it dawned on me they might’ve been for the club draw old boys playing behind us

As it was permanent marker, I couldn’t wipe my initials off the ball in order to slyly return it 😂

So I kept it 😩

Saw them looking for it under the table as we were marching down the first hole

Let’s hope you get to the pro shop’s CCTV before they do.

Isn’t golf daft

Ive had 3 weeks off it due to being away. Came back, absolutely creamed a basket of 50 balls on the range, and 2 days later went and golfed. For the first time since my last batch of lessons, I had not a single swing thought throughout the round. Front 9 was fairly bad, scoring only 12 points (off 90% handicap in fairness) but at no point did I feel I was swinging badly, I just wasn’t holing the putts

Back 9 I came back in +3 par, 22 points- off 90% handicap still

Hoping and praying these zero swing thoughts carry on long term now. So bloody refreshing knowing I can actually golf now and again

Overthinking how you're swinging is a real killer on the course. I try not to do it now unless it's something really simple.

I know- I’ve had a few lessons that have completely changed the swing again. I’ve found the change easy to deal with on the range from the get go, but transferring that onto the course has been tough. I’ve probably had 2/3 months of regular golf not knowing where each shot is going to end up

The pro likened it to learning to speak a foreign language fluently. Those who are 100% fluent have practised so much that they don’t need to think about the words coming out of their mouth- it’s just happens.

Hopefully now after months of abysmal golf, I’m at that stage again. Til the next lesson 😩

You've just described this book. Well worth a read.

Won our next round of Winter Pairs today

I felt a fraud after 3 holes, putting us 3 up with 3 pars (I got 14 shots) 😂

4 up thru 4

On the back 9 one of our opponents went round in -3 par. Incredible golf to watch

I sunk a 30+ foot birdie putt on 18 to take it to a play off and then won the playoff 1st hole with a par (and a shot)

Been and got fitted for my irons after that with the pro. Going back a week Monday to finish it as I was knackered after that grueller of a round
