Soeren Link, mayor of Duisburg, said robbery and vice have soared since an influx of migrants from the two former Eastern Bloc nations last year. He said: “It is costing us millions and will cost us more by next year. We didn’t ask for this problem and we can’t handle it alone.†Mayor Link described mounds of rubbish “taller than I am†at dilapidated housing blocks for migrants. In one, 400 immigrants were crowded into 40 apartments. “Children are misused there and sent on stealing missions,†he said. "It is costing us millions and will cost us more by next year. We didn’t ask for this problem and we can’t handle it alone." On Facebook, the mayor wrote: “Platitude slogans and strong words do not help!†Tory councillor Audrey Lewis said: “We need some clarity from the Government to plan ahead for extra pressures on housing and other services. We’re sleepwalking into trouble.†A paper by the German Association of Cities earlier this month said: “The social balance and social peace is extremely endangered.†One report from Duisburg said: “For at least a year, observations in Duisburg (but also nationally) show that Romanian groups – apparently family clans – commit organised crimes on an alarming scale.†Herr Link’s remarks were praised by fellow Germans. I find it astonishing just how adverse so many people are to realising and admitting the problems this will cause, and just dismissing those with fears as racist, close minded, or ignorant. Edit: It is not bound to happen here for certain, but why take the chance? Why on Earth would we possible want more immigration? Services (NHS, Housing etc) are already very stretched, unemployment is already high.

Germany will likely receive far more Romanian migrants than we do due to their location in Europe. These cases don't worry me particularly as I'd imagine they're very rare. The Mail will no doubt have exaggerated the story too making it worse than it actually seems although you can't really argue with the Mayor's words. His comments do suggest it is a worry although I don't believe Britain will have to suffer these kind of problems - I understand your concerns but our politicians seem to be changing their view too, we appear to be getting a bit tougher on immigration control.

Theres no doubt some will cause problems but do you want to live in a country where people arent allowed to move freely, what if you wanted to live somewhere else, wouldnt you want that option. the facts are out there, immigrants are 3 times less likely to claim benefits than british born and a huge percentage leave within a year. Theres no question that people should be aware of the problems open immigration within the EU can cause but why not write a more balanced piece, its the constantly negativity that the daily hate spews that grates with people.

That will sure be a solution to immigration problems. I can't wait till we can embrace the Romanian culture once large waves hit our shores early 2014.

People will banish the Daily Mail for being anti immigration, but there are a lot of people in this country I think who share similar views about immigration the past 10 years or so. Of course you will get the lefties calling them all stupid.

Exactly, I have a problem with some that read the mail, that was the point.....they're not all stupid but you only have to read the comments to see alot are.
