lavrentis Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 The only people the EU benefits are the people behind it and big business who employ the cheapest possible. Socially and economically in the long run it is not good for us. What is scary is that no one under 55 has voted for this, and those that did vote did not vote for the EU in its current form. The progress it has made is scary. A referendum in 2017 is too late! We need one now. £50 million a day to the EU needs to stop.
ithuriel Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 A couple of the Polish lads where I work said this could be bad for us here, wonder if they like Romanians

Thracian Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 so thats bound to happen here is it? i'm all for controlled and limited immigration - and with a proper points-based system like New Zealand so we can import people who are going to be of some benefit to us. Rather than those who are likely to be more cheap votes for a Labour Party who would blandly re-assign or restructure British jobs for the price of a incomers vote. http://www.silverfer...s-system-works/
Thracian Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 Surely you've got to approach the issue from a different angle. First of all, the Roma. They have always moved around a lot and always will. It's in their blood, it's part of their culture. Also, they're notorious for caring little about working in the classic system. Secondly, how about thinking about what freedom of movement in between EU countries has done to all of us? Even here in Switzerland, a major discussion has evolved revolving about the influx of working people from outside the country, lowering the average income, putting the Swiss under pressure and resulting in downsizing and layoffs. It's a global challenge and it affects us all. Thirdly, don't you think if the Roma from Romania or Bulgaria were to work in their "home" countries for a decent wage, they'd move to places like Duisburg? In the end, it's the economy, stupid. And it doesn't help to use the Roma, who have always been on the move, as an example for a mass threat by people from Eastern Europe. It's all but another attempt at scare-mongering the uneducated or simple-minded. Pretend otherwise if you wish but the scare-mongering is more than justified. Just ask the people of Beaumont Leys about the impact of the traveller population in their area. At least one major park is now virtually out of bounds, everything metal is getting stolen, children are constantly being intimidated and robbed of their bikes and phones etc but does anyone fight their corner and get heard? Not that I've noticed. . Yet Leicester Council can't help the incomers enough whether it's to the cost of the local population or not. And, no i don't blanket all travellers the same. Unlike most on here I've dealt with "sited" travellers for years and get on with them in the main. But to pretend that large groups of unsited travellers don't cause problems is to deny reality. As ever, human rights should come with human responsibility. As for comparing the problem here in England with that in Switzerland do me a favour.
Thracian Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 UK immigration is coming down and with us looking to distance ourselves from the EU this could lower even further. Germany will likely receive far more Romanian migrants than we do due to their location in Europe. These cases don't worry me particularly as I'd imagine they're very rare. The Mail will no doubt have exaggerated the story too making it worse than it actually seems although you can't really argue with the Mayor's words. His comments do suggest it is a worry although I don't believe Britain will have to suffer these kind of problems - I understand your concerns but our politicians seem to be changing their view too, we appear to be getting a bit tougher on immigration control. We haven't got a clue how many immigrants there are but it''s way over and above official figures.
purpleronnie Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 We haven't got a clue how many immigrants there are but it''s way over and above official figures. So? We do what we can to stop illegal immigraion, not sure I get your point on this matter. We now have one of the lowest net migration figures in the world.

The scare-mongering is not justified, as it affects a minority (still) and circles around mostly isolated events that have little to nothing to do with the bigger picture. Otherwise, you'd have a lot more incidents all across the county or country. Populist politicians, journalists and newspapers deliberately focus on specific minorities to get their viewpoint across, a viewpoint that often borders on racism. I'm not denying that there's crime in this world and that the Roma have a tendency of living up to their reputation, but crime has existed in the UK (or Switzerland) before they moved places, so it's not fair to put the blame on them solely. Or can you actually prove that it is the Roma that are responsible for the bullying, the thefts or whatnot?
birdwith2beaksandnofriends Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 They should have tried harder in school instead of slacking off. Correct. A point lost on the great unwashed.
MC Prussian Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 If in doubt, get the race card out. Or revert to one-liners.
absolutelegend Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 Not seen many people talk about the benefits to the UK of this happening? To be fair, all I have seen is the usual on this matter; anyone stating concerns being called a racist, daily mail articles dismissed as irrelevant, blah blah blah There must be a lot of good to come to the UK as a result of this as so many on this message board are defending it. So what are the benefits to our country at this moment it time?

absolutelegend Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 I assume this immigration will cause the overall population of our country to increase. My queries would be: - do we currently have enough surplus housing in our country to support this? - do our public services have the capacity to cope? - will it provide our country with skills that our current workforce cannot provide/are short of? - will the taxes that they they generate outweigh the cost to the state to support them? I assume the asswer to all of these questions must be yes else I'm sure it wouldn't be allowed to happen.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 im sure there are many hard working decent Romanians and Bulgarians who will come across with the changes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
acooling08 Posted 10 March 2013 Author Posted 10 March 2013 There are virtually no benefits of immigration from Romania and Bulgaria. - Increase in petty crime and street crime. This is fact, just look at current areas of high eastern european immigration, particularily up north. - More and more strain on our already strained and cash-strapped public services. - Britain's welfare is well known to be very very generous, meaning many looking to sponge will flock here. - Those that want to come here to work (which is high don't get me wrong) are overwhelmingly unskilled. They will work for very little money, undercutting British workers and putting extra strain on them. The work that many will do will be cash-in-hand (no tax revenue). - They will shrink the economy because they will send much of the money they earn back home, and will have very little to spend here. - Bit of a stereotype point here, but don't eastern europeans hate asians? Looking at their football supporters they do. If so, this equals more tension in already disjointed communites. I hope UKIP do well at the next election but I can't see them doing anything major really. Just another 4 years of the same bullshit we get from the centre ConLabLib parties.
absolutelegend Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 im sure there are many hard working decent Romanians and Bulgarians who will come across with the changes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . yes 100% you are correct. those who have any concerns about the others are clearly unjustified and racist
bovril Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 To be fair, all I have seen is the usual on this matter; anyone stating concerns being called a racist, daily mail articles dismissed as irrelevant, blah blah blah I haven't seen anybody being called a racist after stating their concerns. But it seems to have been whipped up completely out of proportion. The borders of the EU are already open to Bulgarians and Romanians. It's a bit of a ball ache for Bulgarians to get Visas to come and work in the UK, but there are already a lot of Bulgarians who have moved to Italy, UK, Germany. According to some of the stories I've read, when the two countries join Schengen it's as if this cataclysmic event will take place when hordes of Roma flood into the capital. People are pretty cynical these days with politics and I guess politicians have realised they can't convincingly promise us anything anymore. There are few reasons to positively vote for any of the major parties. So they promise to protect us from some unknown threat; terrorists, Eastern European migrants, the work-shy, paedophiles etc etc etc
bovril Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 - Bit of a stereotype point here, but don't eastern europeans hate asians? Looking at their football supporters they do. Eastern Europeans don't hate Asians more than any other nation hates anybody else. Unfortunately racism has not been tackled at football stadia as it has in the UK (could say the same about Italy, Spain, etc). The rest of your points are valid, but it's a bit much to stereotype a nationality based on pond life at a football match.
Guest Bilo Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 You can't judge an entire nation by monkey chanting racist morons. That's a bit like judging England by The Den on matchday. If the majority of English people were like that, I'd have emigrated years ago.
MooseBreath Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 There will almost certainly be at least some xenophobia among people from a country which is almost 100% white and has generally quite poor education and provides very little opportunity for the broadening of one's mind. This much is plainly obvious, though no doubt i'll now be described as racist myself for pointing it out. It's one of those transparent hypocrisies in their own views that lefties always refuse to face up to - their entire racial agenda is just a manifestation of their desperate ego, one must justify one's superiority complex in some way, and certainly claiming to have some higher perspective of the race issue is a great way to do it. But then when it comes to real racial issues, they shy away, "oooh no, just 'coz they make monkey chants at black people don't mean they racist, it's just a minority what do that, I know cos I'm expert on Romanian culture int i? Ain't no way any Romanian could possibly be racist no way. You on da other hand Mr British you definitely a racist cos well cos I'm better than you innit."

Most lefties think that the race issue is pretty clear cut - discrimination based on race or racist insults are wrong, and racism is (like pretty much any other bad quality) race-neutral. Whether it's a Serb monkey-chanting at a black English football player, a Korean guy blaming all the 'weiguekin' for a nonexistent crime wave in South Korea (personal experience), an American black person refusing to serve any whites who come into his shop, or indeed an British guy generalising immigrants in this country based on a few anecdotal stories in the press. It all shows equal amounts of ignorance and intolerance. For fvcks sake people - we're all human, and we've got more in common than not. Good stuff and bad stuff that is done is down to individuals and their own choices, not what race they belong to. Intolerance comes in all colours.

In my experience the makeup of educated / uneducated, tolerant / intolerant people in the UK and BG is about the same. The difference is that we deal with racist issues much better in the UK.
rico Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 So we should all panic and stereotype because of one man's opinion and views. This does not happen. Oh just a minute there was one person that influenced his nations thinking and he happened to live in Germany. He was not a big fan of Jews. Sepp Blatter?

Are you saying that only 'Lefties' have compassion and are not racists? I tend to think that those that you have in quotes are the ones that are the racist and uneducated ones because they believe what the tabloids say.
