theessexfox Posted 28 April 2013 Posted 28 April 2013 Anyone else think England's number 1 is massively over-rated, mistake prone, and extremely poor from crosses? I've thought this from the first game of the Euros onwards. No doubting he is a good keeper, but the praise for him is way OTT. Thoughts?

I've thought this from the first game of the Euros onwards. No doubting he is a good keeper, but the praise for him is way OTT. Thoughts? Yes. He is the best 'keeper we have, but he isn't that good. He seems to fcuk up at least a couple of times a season, and they really are basic fcuk ups.

Ross-Kemp Posted 28 April 2013 Posted 28 April 2013 He has no competition. He knows he can make mistakes.
Jimothy Posted 28 April 2013 Posted 28 April 2013 Was very good a couple of seasons ago and was deserving of all the praise, but as someone else has said he's gone downhill since the start of the euros. Still even at times this season he's been brilliant, couple of games in Europe he kept Man City in the game when they would have been soundly beaten. Not sure why he's suddenly become so error prone, unless it's because he can't cope with the pressure if being England's number one. He's got no competition for the spot, Ben Foster is about the closest and he too is error prone too, especially when put in an England or Man Utd shirt, I think he can only cope with playing for smaller teams, otherwise the pressure gets to him. It's shame because England always used to produce quality keepers, at times we'd have 3 who could claim the number one spot, now we struggle to find one.
Aus Fox Posted 28 April 2013 Posted 28 April 2013 Spoken like true Leicester fans, no player is ever good enough. Anyone see Messi v Byern he was clueless seams to have 2 or 3 games like that every year.
kingfox Posted 28 April 2013 Posted 28 April 2013 Always thought he was overrated, has his good games, but is also prone to mistakes, in all fairness Schmeichel has let in some he has got his hands too and could of saved, but I've never seen Kasper make mistakes like Joe Hart does. England have rubbish keepers, only one's I rate are Foster and Forster.
scottthefox Posted 28 April 2013 Posted 28 April 2013 That itchy scalp injury really affected his game
Fox92 Posted 28 April 2013 Posted 28 April 2013 He does make a few errors, but yesterday he picked up an injury and although he should have saved the goal, I don't think he could get down to it due to the injury. He's still our best option though.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 28 April 2013 Posted 28 April 2013 I haven't rated him for a while and it's nice to see others coming round to the idea that he might not be a shoe-in as England's No.1. I think Foster making himself available for international selection again earlier this year was telling. He clearly feels he has a chance of edging Hart out and personally I think he deserves to. He has been class since joining WBA.

He has been class since joining WBA. God no, not Foster! As I said in my post earlier, stick him in a shirt for a big team or for his country and he suddenly becomes a clown. He doesn't have the mentality to be England number one. He plays well for WBA because the pressure is off and the worlds not watching. Should WBA start to challenge for titles he'd soon start to struggle again. He's shown time and time again for both Man Utd and England that he just can't cope.

So are you saying Schmeichel is a better keeper than Hart? Hart's an extremely good keeper, this season hasn't been his best but I don't think he's over-rated.
whoareyaaa Posted 28 April 2013 Posted 28 April 2013 Keepers will always make mistakes think he is still the best English keeper out there, He did say though himself that it got to his head and he needs to concentrate more. He's still young though so will continue to improve.
