ADK Posted 6 May 2013 Posted 6 May 2013 Unless you can also make bullets it's not actually as big a deal as you might think. Making a working firearm really isn't that difficult but getting ammunition is.

With regards to your comment it really depends on where you live. I can get hold of ammunition pretty easily in France, Certainly in many areas of the U.S. and many other countries. I don't think it's that hard in England either but then again it isn't too hard to get hold of a gun if you know who to ask.
Bryn Posted 6 May 2013 Posted 6 May 2013 This was always going to happen eventually, thank God a man went through the proper channels and brought this possibility to public attention in time for legislators to put in place controls. We should be grateful, even if that wasn't his intention.
whoareyaaa Posted 6 May 2013 Posted 6 May 2013 The idea is that as the printers become cheaper, instead of buying goods from shops, consumers will instead be able to download designs and print out the items at home. That is pretty amazing stuff.

Think you hit the nail on the head there. 3D printers are not mainstream yet, and law enforcement need to address this technology in a proactive manner rather than waiting for it all to kick off first. Ultimately though, if you really wanted to get hold of a gun without a 3D printer, you probably could... if you knew the right people... so really I suppose it doesn't change things massively in the scheme of things, apart from perhaps bringing down the cost.
