This is on the back of the discovery of pork in halal burgers. Strangely, he didn't say a word when the horsemeat scandal was rife even though this potentially affected many more people of all backgrounds. Also, reading the comments from LM readers, it appears all meat supplied to our local schools as halal unless otherwise stated. What if I object? Won't get anywhere will it?

I find that shocking, Sikhs are not allowed to eat halal meat, so why isn't he asking a public enquiry about this???? Vaz is one of the most vile people I have ever known, nearly as vile as that mayor who kept droppping his trousers infront of kids!!
Parafox Posted 14 May 2013 Author Posted 14 May 2013 I find that shocking, Sikhs are not allowed to eat halal meat, so why isn't he asking a public enquiry about this???? Vaz is one of the most vile people I have ever known, nearly as vile as that mayor who kept droppping his trousers infront of kids!! I only took this from the comments from other readers on the LM website, but the implication is that all schol meat is halal. They don't buy in kosher meat or traditionally slaughtered meat as far as I know, but I stand to be corrected as i have no definitive information. I assumed that the council were working with a "what they don't know, won't hurt them" attitude with regard to provision of meat. You'd never know the method of slaughter just by eating it.
ADK Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 I think it came out before that halal meat is cheaper because they don't have to comply with so many regulations.
Webbo Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 Halal and kosher are virtually identical so there shouldn't be an issue there. I think what it is is that by supplying halal meat they don't have to supply separate meals for muslims.

Got no issue with that, but altleast they should let parents know, especially for those faiths where halal is forbiden and can decide not to eat halal meat!!

I didn't know until now that Sikhs weren't allowed to eat halal. In that case they should certainly make it clear and provide an alternative.

Sikhs aren't allowed to alot of things but as typical religious hypocrites they do what they like, it's not one that requires a rant, just make parents aware and hence Sikhs parents can decide.
MooseBreath Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 Are they really "not allowed" or do they just not want to because they dont like muslims?
Dr The Singh Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 Are they really "not allowed" or do they just not want to because they dont like muslims? They are really not allowed, that includes kosher meat, any meat that is killed/sacrificed that causes unecessary pain or anxiety to the animal is not allowed. Halal is considered cruel as the animals throut is cut while reciting prayers and then bleed to death, this is by fact a painful and psychological painful to the creature. In fact sikhs should only eat meat by 'jatka', single blow, but it is very rare to find such practices, but modern butchery is close enough. Nothing to do with muslims etc!!
DennisNedry Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 Pork in halal burgers Serves the bastards right for eating animals slaughtered in such a cruel and horrific manner.
bluesbrothers Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 Halal meat should be banned, full stop. Even progressive muslims find the practice abhorent.
Alexikokopops Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 Halal and kosher are virtually identical so there shouldn't be an issue there. I'm not sure members of the two faiths would be quite so ready to describe a pious Jew doing the slaughter as "virtually identical" to having the animal blessed as it is killed (while facing Mecca)...
Alexikokopops Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 Halal meat should be banned, full stop. Even progressive muslims find the practice abhorent.I was chatting to a Muslim friend about this (about a year or so ago so I can't remember everything) and he said there's two main companies that do halal food. One has the blessings done on tape and I think (although I can't quite remember) he said they stun them first before letting them bleed out. The other one is more traditional. Some Muslims don't view the first one as proper halal but most are fine with it. I'll ask him about it tomorrow. I've just spent 12 hours on various forms of transport so might be talking complete and utter gibberish.

I'm a vegetarian myself, but if someone wants to eat meat then it should limit pain and kill the animal as quick as possible. Shouldn't he have said something when everyone else was being sold horsemeat?
hejammy Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 I was under the impression Sikhs were not allowed to eat meat full stop......
hejammy Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Pork in halal burgers Serves the bastards right for eating animals slaughtered in such a cruel and horrific manner. You wouldn't be laughing if your school kids were served snake, crocodile or even human meat in their burgers would you? Actually judging by your comments you probably are the kid that unfortunately ate something very wrong
hejammy Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Halal meat should be banned, full stop. Even progressive muslims find the practice abhorent. Actually when halal/kosher meat is slaughtered they cut the jugular therefore oxygen fails to reach the brain very quickly which in turn doesn't allow the animal to feels sensations of pain, so it is a very quick and 'painless' way of slaughtering an animal
