The Year Of The Fox Posted 19 May 2013 Share Posted 19 May 2013 I'm not making out we'd ever get into the top four in the premiership, but after today it's really got me thinking about how shit it is that teams like Arsenal consider CL Qualification as an achievement, the Arsenal players and fan celebrating as they were earlier really showed me how much the CL has ruined our domestic game. The thought of Leicester ever getting into the CL genuinely doesn't turn me on at all. Perhaps its because the possibility of it ever happening are incredibly slim. Yes it'd be good to go on a European tour again, but the CL is so overhyped its unreal. It'd have to be being FA Cup winners for me everytime. I predict that the majority of younger fans amongst us would choose CL Qualification purely because how it is dominated by the TV and other media outlets nowadays whereas the FA Cup has gone the opposite way (late kick offs and it being played halfway through the season) Thoughts? DB11 Posted 19 May 2013 Share Posted 19 May 2013 I voted FA Cup but then voted Arsenal I'd love to win the FA Cup, but not at the sacrifice of relegation (this season especially with the new TV deal and the money it will bring)

They are losing ground on Chelsea, both Manchester clubs and maybe even Spurs. I guess to an extent that's why their fans and players were celebrating so dramatically but again, it all boils down to the money the sponsors and TV companies dish out. Spiritwalker Posted 19 May 2013 Share Posted 19 May 2013 In 20yrs time nobody will know if you qualified for the Champions League in 2013, or if you spent 9 or 8 yrs in the Prem. The FA Cup however would always be on your honours list.
Harry - LCFC Posted 19 May 2013 Share Posted 19 May 2013 Good questions, they make you think a bit. In 20yrs time nobody will know if you qualified for the Champions League in 2013, or if you spent 9 or 8 yrs in the Prem. The FA Cup however would always be on your honours list. Excellent point. Trying to put into words why I'd prefer the FA Cup over the CL but you've done it for me.

From the outside we might not understand why they celebrated it, but at least they genuinely had something to celebrate out. At least their fans have a reason to go out and have a good night celebrating their football team.

Their fans will just be forking out £xxxxs more next season. It just stinks of money orientated football. I used to love the CL around the 90s and early 2000s but since say 2008 ish it's got so much more commercialised it's been ruined IMO.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 19 May 2013 Share Posted 19 May 2013 What's the point of qualifying for a competition that you'll never win? Actually winning something is the winner for me everytime, I'm a fan I don't really give a toss about the balance sheet as long as the clubs solvent. I also voted for being a fan of Wigan. I find that a lot of fans of 'big' clubs (and so called big clubs) have an expectation about what they're club should be doing in terms of what league they're playing, what teams they should be beating, etc, etc, etc. Being a Wigan fan, you can't really expect anything so you go to each game with hope and anticipation, making a win all that sweater and a defeat a driving force to hoping for better next week. How many Arsenal fans would have gone away from that Wigan game shouting to the rooftops after that win?
anotherharboroughfox Posted 19 May 2013 Share Posted 19 May 2013 FA Cup always. Wigan: although dogshit as a football club in general, I like their manager and owner. ALso the thrill of their relegation escapes most years would be such good fun!

peach0000 Posted 19 May 2013 Share Posted 19 May 2013 If we won the fa cup it wouldn't mean much for the future but champions league qualification would mean money and financial investment that could make the club a top european side and who could win the fa cup multiple times. ousefox Posted 19 May 2013 Share Posted 19 May 2013 FA Cup Arsenal- Wigan will not come back for many years i don't think. I would rather have 10 years of Prem/CL football than one FA Cup win.
nickyboy Posted 19 May 2013 Share Posted 19 May 2013 i went for FA Cup and Wigan CL is a good thing for the here and now, but coming 4th and then not winning the competition helps money wise but thats it look back over the past and its cup wins which are up there for all to see, when we look back on the glory years is it the years b2b in the prem league we spout out 1st or is it the League Cup wins?? with me it is the cup wins, they are there for all to see

Bilo Posted 19 May 2013 Share Posted 19 May 2013 There is nothing I'd love more as a fan of Leicester City than to belt out Abide With Me and see the boys lift the most famous domestic trophy in the world. It's gutting that we've never won it while all of our neighbours have, something we need to get on our honours list. I've accepted that we'll never be champions of England, but Portsmouth and Wigan winning the cup in recent years gives me hope we can win the cup final ourselves one day. The European tour the following year would be great too.

Plus I think we could actually win the Europa League, ambitious I know, but look at Fulham who I would say have less potential to achieve than ourselves.
