Guest Bilo Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Good point, we'd have a CL (sort of) to go along with our cup win anyway. Plus I think we could actually win the Europa League, ambitious I know, but look at Fulham who I would say have less potential to achieve than ourselves. Very, very difficult now that a CL side only has to take it half seriously to be in with a shout of winning the thing. Both the finalists this year finished third in a CL group. We'd certainly have a few games to enjoy though, unlike our forays in 1997 and 2000.

I've been very impressed by the standard of the competition this season. Perhaps this year has been a bit of a blip in terms of the quality required to win? I hope so anyway. We'd certainly have to make big strides forward before we're ready for that anyway. Right now I'd be happy with a Championship runners up medal!
Deucalion Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 I'd love us to win that elusive FA Cup and have always wanted us to win it. But, I voted for the Champion's League, mainly due to the money pot which comes with it. It's all about the money, innit.

It's not a given that we'd play an underachieving giant, we could end up playing nobodies from Ukraine or something.

The more obscure places are always the better trips
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 i went for FA Cup and Wigan CL is a good thing for the here and now, but coming 4th and then not winning the competition helps money wise but thats it look back over the past and its cup wins which are up there for all to see, when we look back on the glory years is it the years b2b in the prem league we spout out 1st or is it the League Cup wins?? with me it is the cup wins, they are there for all to see I agree nickyboy
Guest Bilo Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Who would those games be against though? It's not a given that we'd play an underachieving giant, we could end up playing nobodies from Ukraine or something. A winnable trip to Tel Aviv or Prague would be better than a stuffing by AC Milan or Benfica in my opinion. Not that I wouldn't want to play the big clubs of course, I just think the inevitable games against poorer teams would be a great part of the experience. Stoke got to visit Hajduk Split, FC Thun, Dynamo Kiev, Besiktas and Maccabi Tel Aviv before going out to Valencia. Ukraine, Switzerland, Turkey and Israel is one hell of a tour to be fair.
ADK Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 I think finishing 3rd or 4th in the prem would be a major achievement in itself
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 We've never won the FA Cup, should we stop entering that? I'm sure you realised that my comment was in part a dig towards any Arsenal fans that may pass by, but in all seriousness the competitions couldn't be further apart in profile. Many say the FA Cup has lost its magic, but when you see a giant killing / big day out for one of the lower league teams and what that one day means to the fans you realise the competition is certainly a lot more than just the end result of who picks up the trophy. I know a fair few Bristol City fans that still go on about the time they beat Liverpool at Anfield in a replay - its something that just lives with you throughout your life The Champions League on the other hand doesn't quite have that - ok Celtic beat Barca this year which is like a cup upset, but its just not the same, it's gone all corporate and shite. Take my workmate who's a Chelsea season ticket holder for example - it used to be the case it was exciting to go to watch the group games, but these days he sees it as an unnecessary expense. Worry about the games if they get closer to the final. Finally, I guess there's also a realisation of my age in this, because as a child in the late 80/90's, when you played in the park 'the imaginary trophy' you would play for was the FA Cup or possibly the World Cup after Italia 90 - the Champions League or Premier League was just a marketing idea being formed at this time, it wasn't in the forefront of my mind at this time. Sadly, maybe this will mean the legend of the FA Cup may die soon, because I'm sure kids are pretending to be Messi and winning the Champions League now, if they are actually allowed out to the park?
peach0000 Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 The more i think about this the more things i have to bring up. Firstly to qualify for the CL you must have quality so would have a chance of winning the fa cup and CL. Also there seems to be people who seems to think with our current squad we would have a genuine chance of winning the europa league if so they must be mental. We couldn't beat teams like dinamo kiev or Bucharest. Maybe I'm over thinking it but just my views.

I don't follow Leicester so I'll have the chance to, one day, cheer at an open top bus tour around the city for the club's fricking accountants. Silverware > Balance sheets every time.
ADK Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Why don't we lose all our games next season so we can then compete for the double of league 1 winners and the Paint Trophy, afterall silverware is everything.
theessexfox Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 FA Cup. Arsenal (Wigan if they'd stayed up). This exactly.

Yes, because every little boy imagines himself raising the Paint Pot Cup at Wembley doesn't he? The FA Cup is one of the most famous trophies in the world, every club should aspire to win it.
ADK Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 I'd far rather see a leicester side capable of finishing in the top 4 than win a cup no-one really cares about anymore.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 There is nothing I'd love more as a fan of Leicester City than to belt out Abide With Me and see the boys lift the most famous domestic trophy in the world. It's gutting that we've never won it while all of our neighbours have, something we need to get on our honours list. I've accepted that we'll never be champions of England, but Portsmouth and Wigan winning the cup in recent years gives me hope we can win the cup final ourselves one day. The European tour the following year would be great too. I think this sums it up well. For Leicester City the FA Cup is the best it could ever get. We're never going to win The Premier League and anything above 6th would take at least a decade of building (just look at Everton) and would still be one hell of an achievement needing the right manager, money and luck. Essentially, 6th place in the top division is our glass ceiling. But would I want it any other way? Hell no. As gutting as Watford was the other week there was some comfort in how much it hurt. Countless other football fans that I know noted what a spectacle it was, enquired as to how I must be gutted. They'd been watching it on tv or heard it on the radio and would be distraught if it happened to their team. Not considering the fact of course that they support 'their' team through the mediums of Facebook, Match of the Day and Sky Sports. But Leicester City is my team. I grew up in Leicester, I've had a season ticket for thirteen years through the good and the bad. I've seen us win at Wembley, I've seen us lose at Wembley. I've seen the highs of Europe, the lows of relegation to League One. I've put money in a bucket to save the club, I've put money into away trips to the arse end of England and Wales on cold Tuesday nights for no return. And yet all of this; every single minute, pound and ounce of emotion would be worth it to see Leicester win that FA Cup. I care not for seeing Leicester City competing in the commercial and self-indulgant spectacle of the Champions League. I care little for it as it is at the moment until the latter stages of the competition so seeing Leicester lose what it stands for for me at the moment (my local team, a fairly big club in the grand scheme but still very much local not global) to play a few group games in the Champions League would really take away more than it would add for me. But the FA Cup... that has something. That excitement of the 3rd round draw, the magic that undoubtedly still remains, the history and our failed attempts in yester-year. And to win it wouldn't change Leicester City whilst undoubtedly being our finest hour. And I guess that's what I feel, no matter how bad it can get (Watford for example) I'd rather that than Leicester change into a commercialised 'big' club. Imagine turning up to a home match with 20,000 tourists who are nowhere to be seen at the minute filling the stadium - it would detract from what Leicester City is about and there would be that detatchment. The simple way to say it I suppose is that I would never want Leicester to get too big. I hope I've managed to sum my thoughts on this one up (and hopefully some of yours too). If not then I'll put it this way.... on my '50 things to do before I die' list are to see Leicester win a major trophy and to see us play away in Europe. Both out of my control but give me that FA Cup win and that European tie and I'll die a happy fan!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 19 May 2013 Author Posted 19 May 2013 I'd far rather see a leicester side capable of finishing in the top 4 than win a cup no-one really cares about anymore. Noone really cares due to fans being brainwashed into how good the premiership and champions league really is. If more fans could think for themselves they'd fade into less importance

Fox92 Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Would love to see Leicester win the famous FA Cup. My favourite trophy, and imo the best in the World, in football. Winning the FA Cup is something I want to see before I die, without doubt. Did vote Arsenal, however.
Captain... Posted 20 May 2013 Posted 20 May 2013 FA cup over champions league any day, only Everton fans will remember their brief champions league appearance, but an FA cup is forever. But would I rather be an arsenal fan or Wigan this season, arsenal, yes Wigan won the cup, but arsenal already have a number of cups to their name and have a side capable of winning more next season, Wigan's future looks pretty grim and with their poor gates they aren't going to cope to well with ffp restrictions.
Deucalion Posted 20 May 2013 Posted 20 May 2013 I don't follow Leicester so I'll have the chance to, one day, cheer at an open top bus tour around the city for the club's fricking accountants. Silverware > Balance sheets every time. I totally respect that viewpoint. But...the FA Cup Final would be one game, the Champion's League would be many games, all of which would bring in financial rewards to secure the club's future. (Like Leeds (Opps...don't weaken your own arguments !!)) As someone else has said, finishing in the top four would mean we had a fantastic side, whereas Wigan, a club relegated from the PL, managed to win the FA Cup this year. Sorry, still Champion's League.
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 May 2013 Posted 20 May 2013 Funny question really, I'd be more happy about winning the FA cup. However if you're finishing fourth and playing CL football your in a better position to challange for multiple trophies in the coming seasons..............
Leicester_Numan Posted 20 May 2013 Posted 20 May 2013 What Swansea have done this season was us under O'Neill and is realistically the best a club our size can achieve nowadays. It's perfectly feasible that we can do it again. I'd rather not qualify for the champions league unless we treated it as a complete one off. We've seen what chasing an impossible dream did to Leeds. I'd much rather win a trophy and get relegated than just finish fourth winning nothing, then win another going back up and repeat ad infinitum. After 20 odd years, you'd have an impressive trophy cabinet. That's far better than being a champions league also ran

Wigan will have large parachute payments and are in a better position to go up than 21 other teams. Doesn't always work that way of course
Dan Posted 20 May 2013 Posted 20 May 2013 FA Cup, Wigan. I'd much rather win even the League Cup than qualify for the 'Champions' League. I think the first question is quite simple - honours or money? Honours for me every time. The second one was harder but opted for Wigan purely based on the first question. Arsenal have become a joke club to be honest.
