The thing is, it won't be a, "second season", it will be a third (or is that fourth ?) !  I know people say that Pearson came back in the middle of the 2011/12 season and that Sven had already determined the nature of the squad for that season; but, it wasn't shaped in concrete - and Pearson had good opportunity (which he took) to change a significant part of the squad in the January (2012) Transfer Window.  We were in 12th place when Nige took over.  With his January dealings and his 'all-round good man management' (?!!), he managed to move us up in two-thirds of a season to 9th - a whole 3 places !  Now, with a full season under his belt, he's managed to move us up another 3 places.

I know there'll be many of here, whose maths will say that, "3 places up in two-thirds of a season and 3 places in a full season = a potential automatic slot for 2013/14 (or certainly another play-off)" - but is that really good enough logic ?  A gain of 6 places in two and two-thirds seasons in the Championship doesn't sound like the basis for a potential Premiership manager to me, even if he does struggle to get us up on the 4th attempt (counting the 2009/10 season - when of course, after a another full season, he only managed to get us to 5th) !

Only managed to get us up to 5th? Yeah what a muppet not getting us higher after winning promotion from league one the year before!

This upcoming season will be his second full season, with a preseason and a summer window end of story.

That's the typical Leicester fan mentality at the minute - 'he only managed to get us to 5th' - like that's somehow a failure and not good enough after getting promoted from League One. The expectation is killing this club. Automatic promotion from the Championship is not as simple as 'Employ Manager X' 'Buy Player X' and 'Spend X amount' - it's ****ing difficult and this is one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

At the minute, Pearson's had us in 2 playoff semi finals in 2 and a half seasons. The fact that some of you don't think that's good enough... well the mind just boggles, honestly it does.

5. Tactical ineptitude, another thing that I've heard on here since the end of the season by people who want to demonise our manager. Just how can a tactically inept manager have a team competing for promoton all season? At the end of January we were looking a good shout for automatic promotion. Every team goes through bad runs and every manager has spells where he can't win a game for toffee. It doesn't make them tactically inept. Tinkering with your tactics every single game is not how you win leagues, you win leagues by playing consistently well - you ask Cardiff fans how many times Malky changed formation or style, they'll tell you he hardly ever did. Consistency has been our problem this season, not the tactics we've employed. On our day, we're more than a match for anyone in this league - if we're going to criticise Pearson, we should be asking why he can't get consistent performances out of the players, it's nothing to do with tactics.

Do you not think it possible that the two things might be related ?

No, not particularly. The system we played earlier on in the season took some adjusting to, but we still got results. If we had played that system consistently well throughout the season then we would have been promoted as Champions. I think it's too simplistic to boil everything down to 'Oh, he's tactically inept'.

IMO, when we lost, it wasn't our tactics that were ineffective, it was our players, and I think that's what needs addressing, not our tactics.

True that.

Like I've stated in another thread, a minority of Leicester fans are still living in a somewhat irrational state of tremendous expectations, built up by false promises and the personal inability to distinguish between fantasy and reality.

The patience required to get out of this league is killing them. They want instant success. You can't get that in football. It hardly works. The exceptions prove the rule.

As if it were so simply to add money and more money and come to the conclusion and the equation we'd face no obstacles on the way up and it would all work out just fine. This attitude really beggars belief.

Football is a sum of so many different components (money being one of them) - I'd love to challenge any mathematician to come up with a working formula for success.

So do you think we tried to play the same system in the latter half of the season as we did in the first half ?

Now I know you have trouble seeing the things Nige does as anything but amazing but I have tried to help you as to what the difference between Brian Little's and Nigel Pearson's achievements in three years at the club were - go on, tell me Nige is better for us.

Why do you assume that everyone who doesn't think Pearson is a clown/oaf/tit (your words) therefore believes he is God and will take us to new heights?

Plenty of us have a middle ground, where we don't believe he's crap and also can see his faults. I'm not convinced he can take us up (OMG but you luvv him soo much Corky :o), does not mean I think he's shit and we can do better than him.

But he's probably going to be here so let's see how next season starts, eh?
