If you were Pulis, why would you leave Stoke? has he been sacked?

He was sacked.

It does Beg the question... If finishing 13th in the Prem is not good enough for the chairman of STOKE... then I wonder what is.. Now if it was Tottenham...

Well, with the resources as NP's disposal, anything less than 2nd is a failure, yes. The only other acceptable result would be promotion by the play offs, but coming 6th and not getting promotion is no different end product to coming 20th.

Also, I really fail to see this 'progress' we are making? Where? Up to January we were, but what progress have we made? How can anyone have any possible hope of promotion with the football we have been served up in the second half of the season? The shambolic away form has never been fixed, the only time NP had a decent away record was when he managed our 'championship standard' side out of league 1.

Pulis may not be the answer, but as another poster said, his hoofball is a damn sight more successful than NP's! Anyone who thinks we play a passing game must be deluded!!!! Since the arrival of wood we are a one trick pony, and then for the last 15 mins ( when losing ) we chuck wes Morgan up front. Genius.

Progress:

  • 6th this season, 9th last season
  • Young squad that should naturally get better next season
  • We appear to have cut costs. Can't say for certain though
  • Greater unity at the club. Perhaps not the best point to make but I certainly get the impression the team was more together this season which I feel is important when going for promotion
  • Good football. I accept this was not constant throughout but as long as we get back to it, which I imagine we will, we should be a very strong outfit next season

So those are my examples, I realise one or two aren't exactly concrete evidence but on the whole I really feel we've progressed from last season. I also accept that 6th was a failure but for me it wasn't 'unacceptable' as such. I can tolerate as long as we're moving forward which I feel we are.

Who had allowed his manager to spend £80 million more than he brought in.

Hardly a shoestring budget.

I just don't understand how anyone can seriously suggest that Nigel Pearson is a better manager than Pulis. Perhaps these people also prefer the  media darling Martinez way of playing. I wonder if Wigan fans are as happy as Stoke's today. There is some utter garbage spouted on here sometimes!

Im pretty sure tv money alone will of given stoke more than 80m in the 5 seasons they have been in the prem...

tv money this season alone will be worth 120m to each prem club

Gotta love this delusional tripe......9th after Nige screwed up a chance to get us promoted, young but not that young squad (best players Nuge/Wes?), cut costs but who knows as you admit, greater unity unless you happen to be Danns, Beckford, SSL etc etc and as for good football - we were the team in blue at Walkers in case you got confused.

Why have we progressed - we were only shite last season because Nige couldn't improve the situation so he has only gained 2 more points than he failed with last year(and that is one more than Sven) = poor. Feeling we are moving forward is OK but it has to be based on more than a couple of points more than last year or it is surely a moot point

For all the complaining about supposed 'hoofball' that we resorted to, for a small part of the season, mostly when necessary, the same people now laud the possibility of Pulis coming in? Good god.

When you say "9th after Nige screwed up" are you talking about last season? If you were talking about this season then I can only say it was him who got us to the top two in the first place, would you be happy if we'd come up from mid-table to finish 6th even though the end result was the same?

Agree that our best players aren't the young ones but 3rd youngest squad in the FL speaks volumes. Should improve next season.

Danns and Beckford the troublemakers have been shipped out so I wouldn't really consider them part of the squad. Nigel dealt with the problem as best he could as he couldn't sell them I assume.

I'm going to say that points don't matter now too - league position does. This season was a more competitive league than last it would appear so points totals amongst higher placed teams were lower.

Isn't one of your main gripes with Nige the Sh1t football.

Can think of a better horse to back than Pullis given you hold that opinion.

People moaned and moaned at Pearson for having no plan b, so he changes the style of play for the last few games to get us back into the play offs. The bloke cant win. Seems half our fans think we're a premiership club already. The championship is rough and tumble, cant play great football week in week out

I think my whole issue with NP is the lack of hope and potential progress.

You say he got us to the top two, but it means bugger all in January! I've still got a newspaper clipping when Leicester sat top of the premier league! The manager? Peter Taylor... That season? Relegation!

There is no point in saying people would feel different if NP took us from the brink of relegation to the play offs, because he didn't! He took us from the brink of promotion to the play offs.

Once again, I ask, what has he done that gives anyone the confidence he can get us promotion next season?

Doubt Pulis would be successful immediately.

Well nobody round here wants to wait for success so he can fvck right off!

Where on earth did you get that impression - I want Premier League football so `i can watch every game on TV in France - don't give a shit how we get it and its not like we would be sacrificing the beautiful game to get rid of Nige now would it?

Had us in the top 2 until February last season, and got us into the play-offs twice. Next question.

Well I'd go back to my first point about improved league position to answer that question. We're heading up. Fairly basic point I know but it does show we're going in a certain direction. Again I feel the squad will improve next season due to its youth, particularly midfield.

And on that point about going from top two to 6th and how we feel about it - Are you saying that once we achieve a certain league position it is unacceptable to finish below that? He set those high standards so he shouldn't fall below them right? I'm bothered about the final outcome of the season and I'd have taken 6th at the start of the season.

As they've just won the FA Cup on a fraction of the budget Stoke have spent on the likes on Kenwyne Jones, Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios I'll say they're fairly happy.

Stoke will be a financial car crash when they come down.

Ffs anyone with one eye let alone two can see that would be accepting football is played in the clouds.

You can hate pearson. Fine but to swap him with this crap. As a stokie said his plan a is most peoples plan b!!!!

If at all.

Stoke slip closer and closer to relegation every season.

It suggests his mode of football has passed its sell-by date.

Nah - just amazed at City fans who love Nige so much they can't see that he is second rate (as are we right now) compared to teams like Stoke.
