Harry - LCFC Posted 21 May 2013 Posted 21 May 2013 With respect, someone's odds for the Everton job is not the criteria I judge a manager's ability on. You'll find Gary Lineker's name on that list too, are we to judge his managerial capability based on his odds? Frankly, Pearson's odds do not say a lot to me, in fact I intend to totally ignore them.
Corky Posted 21 May 2013 Posted 21 May 2013 It says a lot that Pearson is 75th in the betting for the Everton job! Lots of current championship, league 1 and Scottish managers ahead of him, and Hope Powell as well. If he was half the manager that some people suggest then he would be a damn site higher for sure! How is this relevant to, like, anything? I'm sure Jose Mourinho would be 75th on the list to manage us, does that matter?

Basing that on the fact that only Betfair are offering any kind of odds, and they order their "also-rans" in alphabetical order?
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 21 May 2013 Posted 21 May 2013 Hope Powell is also one of said also-rans by the way. Apparently she's a better manager because her name begins with an 'H'.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 May 2013 Posted 21 May 2013 Basing that on the fact that only Betfair are offering any kind of odds, and they order their "also-rans" in alphabetical order? Using that logic, we're missing a trick by not appointing Greg Abbott.
flowwolf Posted 21 May 2013 Posted 21 May 2013 He has been sucessful in keeping Stoke in the prem where as we have a manager who can't even get us inthe Prem yet people on here are caling him ?
MC Prussian Posted 21 May 2013 Posted 21 May 2013 For some, desperate times call for desperate measures. Some call our team and our manager mediocre - aren't Stoke and Pulis just the same, albeit one league higher up? Pulis has done a steady job at Stoke, but I always thought they were pushing above their weight a bit. I don't see what Pulis can add that we don't already have. His defensive-minded tactics only get them that far. I hope we can emulate their recent successes (not their hoofball, mind) and get promoted so I don't have to listen to all these Pearson haters anymore. How sweet would that be.
Strokes Posted 21 May 2013 Posted 21 May 2013 He has been sucessful in keeping Stoke in the prem where as we have a manager who can't even get us inthe Prem yet people on here are caling him ?He is a massive bellend though, look what he did too gillingham.
Guy Posted 21 May 2013 Posted 21 May 2013 Nah, not the kind of manager we should be looking at if we want to go up "the nice way"! Although he got Stoke up in 2008, he would simply serve to tread water for us and would do no better than to keep us in the same league playing direct footie, just as he did during his last less than glamorous Championship stint at Plymouth Argyle before Holloway improved matters there. He fitted the bill at Stoke in his second spell there but then they've got the reputation of being ion the top three teams out of all the four leagues who "play ugly" - something which I don't think would appease our fans if he ever came here, so a unanimous "no"!. Stick with Pearson ffs......
Mack Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 I have a problem in principal with the manner in which Pulis teams set up and play. I'd rather stay in the championship than endure watching that.
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 Maybe your dislike of NFP clouding your judgment a little.....I mean Pulis, really?
David Hankey Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 The fact is Pulis has Premiership experience which is more than can be said of our present incumbent. But what's the point of this topic when we're not about to change our manager?

Manwell Pablo Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 Where on earth did you get that impression - I want Premier League football so `i can watch every game on TV in France - don't give a shit how we get it and its not like we would be sacrificing the beautiful game to get rid of Nige now would it? You never go to games then Explains alot.
sdb Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 Pulis will not replicate this imo, but will end up building a very effective Championship side. Hope it's not us. Lots good about the guy but the football is very one-dimensional.

Lots good about the guy but the football is very one-dimensional. Yes but it's very effective that's why the fancy dons of the premiership hated playing stoke big strong and physical.
ealingfox Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 His style is also now hopelessly out of date - thats why Stoke were on a downward slope, and he never got them more than 45-odd points, despite something like the 5th highest net spend over the last few years.
Kitchandro Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 Yes but it's very effective that's why the fancy dons of the premiership hated playing stoke big strong and physical. If it's so effective why did they only finish 13th whereas Swansea finished 9th with a much better style of football?
indierich06 Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 We'd have to buy a more or less entire new team to accommodate Pulis' horrific style of football, because as we saw towards the tail end of this season, this team does not do hoofball well. No thank you.
fazzyfox Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 His transfer targets would be Huth (Hoof), Grabben, Holden and Fowler.
Leicester_Numan Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 You never go to games then Explains alot. Seennowtatall
C-man Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 If Pearson was booted and replaced by Pulis that would be it for me until the ownership changed.
Corky Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 If it's so effective why did they only finish 13th whereas Swansea finished 9th with a much better style of football? Stoke haven't finished top half since they were promoted. No-one fears them anymore.
