Your First Leicester Game

First game was a 2-1 home defeat to West Brom

it was a good while ago, and being very young, i dont remember a huge amount about it. I do remember Iwan Roberts having to go off injured after about 30 seconds, and then the deadlock was broken by a piledriver from Richard Sneekers for the baggies.

I really cannot recall who got our equaliser, or the West Brom winner though

I remember some odd things about this game which was shortly after the infamous Sheff Utd defeat. Roberts injured his ribs and I don't think ever played for us again. Birch tried to placate the fans over the goal saying you couldn't legislate for it (he had a point) and I think as we left the ground the PA announced that Joachim had got his 1st goal for Villa which wasn't a very bright thing to do really (I mean the PA wasn't bright not Joachim) (having said that Joachim was and I would imagine still is unlikely to beat Joey Essex at Trivial Pursuit)

FA Cup 3rd round against Notts County...January 8th 1983. We were losing 3-0 with a minute to go and City scored twice in under a minute!!!

Sitting in the old main stand, wooden seats!!!

2-0 defeat at home to peterborough. cant remember the year but it would have been early nineties.

sat in upper deck of the kop

if memory serves me right this was one of our first live tv league games and we were bloody awful, I think Neil Lewis might have made his debut and Ian Bennett had a blinder in goal for Posh, unlike when he came on as a sub for Huddersfield when we stuck 6 past them last season.

Pretty sure first game was Boxing Day 1986 v Arsenal (definitely ended 1-1, that I do remember). Would've been 8 years old.

We were living in Finland at the time and had flown over to spend Xmas with my grandparents in Oakham - so the old man took the rare opportunity to make sure I became 'Lesta'. God I miss Filbo.

What I do remember much better is going to a friendly at Helsinki Olympic Stadium in late summer of 1989. Gary McAllister was the skipper as we beat the now defunct Helsinki United 3-1 (McAllister scoring twice).

There was a lot of media coverage for the game as it was Helsinki U's first ever game. Never forget the pre-match hype, describing Leicester as "one of the top European clubs". Remember my dad muttering that either Helsinki United had booked the wrong team or they'd never seen us play.

How many other Leicester fans were there?

How many other Leicester fans were there?

Good question - if I remember right, there was a group of Leicester fans in a fenced area to one side of the pitch. English teams were banned from European competition at the time so I guess we were genuinely high risk back then!

To be fair, I was 11 so unfortunately wasn't really paying attention to number of visiting fans and those sort of things...We lived in Helsinki at the time so me and the old man sat with the locals. The Leicester team was in Finland as part of a pre-season tour, so they might well have played other games in Finland (or Sweden) that summer too. Jari Rantanen (a Finn) was still with the Foxes so that may have had something to do with us going over.

Tried to look it up but can't find any other mention of it than this in a fairly recent article:

"Between 1971 and 1989, City toured Sweden 10 times, playing 39 times in various pre-season tournaments."
