HTC Desire Problem

I've woke up this morning to find a headset/earphone icon permanently on my screen. I've never used nor plugged one in. It means I can't make phone calls without it being on loudspeaker.

There's an app I've downloaded to fix this but I can't get it to work. I've took the battery out and tried resetting it but to no avail. Any ideas?

I used to have this phone and had the same problem only with the slot on the side I had the GPS icon on display. There was one of those polystyrene balls stuck at the bottom of the slot which made the phone think the GPS was attached. I imagine it's the same with yours.

When I  first read the thread title I thought someone was having to suppress some unpalatable or immoral  sexual urge .

HTC Desire?  The original one?  You must really look after your phones or its probably failing because its only being held together with dust, grime and electrical tape!

Desire HD it is. I smashed it the day after the Watford playoff. Claimed on insurance-sim only contract atm. Decent phone much better than the iPhone shite

I had the same phone and the same problem. There's an app called Headset Blocker that I think was made as a result of this problem specifically for the android system on the Desire HD. The problem really pissed me off when I'd listen to music and then all of a sudden I'd get some beeping and then my music would just stop. Apparently others who had the same problem said it would do so because of a malfunction with where the headphones go in to the jack. The jack has a little tiny switch inside which if triggered or moved would display the headset icon. Try cleaning the jack (blow in to it gently to remove and dust) but if you smashed your phone after that fateful day, it may be permanently damaged!

Have you checked for software updates?

Pretty sure it was you I was sat next to at the game yesterday TYOTF lol.

I noticed you were talking over loudspeaker on a HTC before kick off. Didn't say anything just in case lol. I Was right at the back on Row W wearing a retro white LCFC shirt.

Was it in a white cover case with the city badge on?

I was behind the goal at the very back almost next to the stand thing a cameraman would use when they have a live game. I was standing on the steps rather than behind a seat.

it must've been me, you'd not purposely use loudspeaker to have a conversation whilst at a football match!
