Unions too greedy again

Recommended Posts

Everything Unite touches goes wrong.

One Union Rep and his own interests and he cost the jobs of 800 people, you couldn't make it up.

Why didn't they vote for the survival plan? What did they think would happen? A wage freeze and a reduction in pension? That's not really that bad a deal is it for a company losing money hand over fist.

Can see the Labour party up there trying to pin this on Salmond and the SNP.

This comment is one of the highest rated from the Guardian, even the lefties get it for once!

So the workers are told that they need to accept amended terms and then the company would invest the £300M money required to ensure the long term viability of the plant. Unite of course with a better understanding of the business advise their members to vote against the changes. Result the plant is closed down and everyone loses their jobs. Another great victory for Unite. This is a picture of the future should Unite's political wing the Labour Party get back into power.

I think they're bluffing but what the hell are the union playing at? You can get away with ridiculous demands if you're a firefighters or teachers union because you can use peoples lives and kids educations as leverage, but trying to do the same to a normal business is suicidal.

You've got to give them some credit for their balls if not their brains, it takes some front to walk into a business losing 50million a year and start making demands.

Must have been music to the ears of the owner.

I'd be more confident of having my job in the morning if I sent in two unicorns to my boss rather than Bob Crow and Len McCluskey.

I'd guess they are one and the same

Read that as 'Unicorns too greedy again'...

...Was thinking, what the **** have they done now?

Me too. It's times like this I wish I was a pro with Photoshop. :giggle:

Whilst a defender of the need for unions, to try and demand final salary pensions is just ridiculous.

The unions need to realise that it is no longer the 70s.

ALERT ALERT

Surprisingly reflective Conservative blog:

http://www.demos.co.uk/blog/arewethebaddies

On the radio at lunchtime the reporter claimed that with the proposed changes to shift allowances some workers could be £10k a year worse off. I really can't blame anyone for resisting that, then again the reporter said the company was losing £10 million a month which is obviously untenable too. Who knows? There are no easy answers.

They were offered a pay freeze, I don't know how anyone can calculate they would be £10k a year worse off.

Well all you union bashers, happy now???

The workers at Grangemouth have made wage and pension sacrifices to save their jobs.

Where was their boss during these negotiations??? Billionaire Jim Ratcliffe was sitting on his £130 million yacht. Do you think maybe he has cut his income by a similar relative amount??? Has he F**k!!!!

Please remind me (as I don't read the Daily Mail I clearly don't understand the fundamentals of big business). What is it that he does that allows him to be a billionaire and allows him to pay the people who do the work for him to earn F**k all.

Oh yeah, he's 'the boss' he can do what he F*****g likes.

I would say when the revolution comes he will be first against the wall, however I am realistic enough to realise it will never come as most people are naturally greedy, all you Daily Mail and Sun readers see people win X factor or the lottery and think 'wow that's great' or you look at rich bastards like Osborne and have respect for his money (he has no morals or intellect to be respected).

I do despair that on the whole we are a morally bankrupt country. Just occasionally someone shows the social morals that allow for others to benefit instead of themselves, I suppose that is what gives me hope that we are not all right wing Thatcherite greedy bastards.

Certainly not the millions that the 'owner' skims off for himself.

Alot more than the people he represents though. He could of got his workers a better deal here if he wasn't too greedy.

How dare a man buy a yacht. Sickening. If he has a yacht everyone should have a yacht.
